  1. I took the snowmobile with me, which was fine with that kind of ice. But with this 2nd warm up, next time I'll be on foot and spudding about until I have a good idea how the ice is. It sure has been a crazy winter AGAIN. There is another lake SW of me that I really want to get on for the crappie, but I'm reluctant as it's deep and there is a stream that flows into it.
  2. 7-10" on this ice. I was happy to have the power auger making swiss cheese of the ice, as I know my lazy bones would get tired out drilling by hand.....
  3. :thumb:Settle on in gents....this is a great place to be......
  4. Had the pleasure to be invited to a private lake, that one of my partners at the office lives on, to fish. We fished it about a month ago, and had good action. I made my way to the same spot from a month ago, and one hole drilled and I was putting fish on the ice. Had a fun day of fishing with the guys from the office that are just getting started. I put my limit of gills on the ice, most came on waxies on a blue halis and the rest came on a yellow / orange tear drop. As the morning bite tapered off I put the vex back to use. What I saw was that the fish were there, but not as active. I brought my lures up from close to the bottom, up off the bottom 5-6', only in 10 fow. Shortly after doing this the screen lit up from the top down. They were biting light, but with a fast hand I continued to put them on the ice. Good weather, good fishing. Now we'll see what this warm up does to the ice, hopefully it will stick around for a bit. Good luck & be safe out there
  5. I fished the slot yesterday late morning and pulled one fish there with only a small number of marks. Packed up and moved out by the plug. Didn't have any bites out there. Looking to maybe get out Sunday. Good luck and be safe out there.
  6. Well, snow last night, turned to rain overnight with a good crusty mix on the ground. Run off will likely make the river not safe IMO, I was on 4" of ice on Saturday in Bay City. Non stop action of juvenille walleye with one on the ice that made it home with me. I too plan on hitting the bay this weekend......good luck, b safe
  7. Good read for sure. Is a "locks" type system possible in Chicago?
  8. I can't seem to find a contact phone #, anyone have it?
  9. :thumb:SLAB CRAPPIE!!!! I want to head out with you.....
  10. Thanks Grant....look forward to your update
  11. Thanks for the post Justin....can't get em from the couch. There's always next year. Hope your knee mends quickly....
  12. All the boats mentioned by the OP are good choices. We're all partial to what we like for various reasons. I like the ride of my glass boat over that of a metal boat on the water also. While the glass is heavier, I am not quite clear on the issue of trailering. Mine is only 21', and is heavy, but trailering it is not an issue. The only thing that I wish was different about my boat, is that I had an outboard. The 4.3L v6 is a great engine, but, an outboard would definitely extend my fishing season. Good luck in your search for your boat.
  13. Excellent way to ease into my Friday @ work! thanks
  14. The 3 mount stantions look just like the fishlander's that I have on the gunnel. They pivot 180* and rotate 360*, it's a nice function to be able to move your holders into any position you may need
  15. Been a nice couple of days with relatively good conditions, wish the boat wasn't winterized...these reports are making me
  16. Love it! Late season fishing can be the best of the year. Multiple rods poppin is a beatiful sight & sound! Keep after em!
  17. We used to "thump" them quite often. Now a days, we just flip them into the cooler and extract the hook. In most instances we don't need to "thump" them, but if we get one that is especially squirrely we will not hesitate to subdue the subject with a "thump" on the noggin.
  18. It is something that is very intriguing to me also.
