  1. That's about all you can do. Cifer through all of the information you can get your hands on, and make your call. Worse case, you're there and still having fun. While we all want to troll the big lake, if the weater doesn't allow there's always the harbors at some of these ports...
  2. Manageable differs from one captain to the next, all about your time on the water and how comfortable you are in different conditions. I do know this, if the forecasted conditions for Saturday are rougher than I'm hoping for, I have no problem playing horseshoes, washers and taking care of a dirty thirty...always another day to fish
  3. I'm going this weekend too, Thursday and Friday don't look "GREAT", but Saturday & Sunday look manageable, at least at this stage in the game
  4. Unfortunately there is not just ONE site, I use several. While I glance at the predicted wave forecasts, I concentrate more on regional weather reports, wind reports/forecasts from several sources. It's tough to rely on only one site for a dependable forecast. I've been burned too many times by not going based on predictions, only to look at a webcam, or a live feed from a bouy that contradicts what the forecast predicts......you can never arm yourself with enough information
  5. I was witness to this, and plan on doing it from here on out. Definitely a nice end product at the cleaning table
  6. Have fun over there. I'll be 4 ports to your north Friday of next week....Should be spending some more time early spring in your neck of the woods....plenty of opportunity then for a doughnut war
  7. Yes...make sure to have those donuts....I like the custard filled long jons the best.....
  8. Very likely, my sister has place right in Onekama, it's been there before. Will be heading over that way next weekend until the end of October....
  9. Nice job Frank....how much longer will the eyes hang in there this year? Persistence pays off again
  10. Should probably know this, but I'm dumbfounded...what's BLL?
  11. Thanks KJ, It looks good, and I really just want it to be functional. I"m not that lazy of an SOB, but with 3 kids, and a wife who had a work trip for a week it's hard to find time to do what i need....LOL Can't wait to put it to use, NEXT WEEKEND
  12. Well, I found some time this morning to drill a few holes in a perfectly good boat. I only had one casualty with a bolt snapping that I will be in the process of drilling out and replacing which will be my 8th long line rod holder up top, hoping that it's painless. Thanks for you guys that gave me some input on this, I am glad that I thru bolted this thru the hard top. Notice to the right there is no rod holder on the end for a long line, but on the left that's what I am going for on the other side. If it's not as functional as I'm hoping I will move it and utilize it just the same as the other 7 for rod storage
  13. MOOD had a great segment featuring "The Sportsman" who runs out of Pentwater.....
  14. Eric.....do you have reservations about running short copper instead of lead in the fall? I bought a bulk spool & could rig several shorts targeting dames depths as the 1-5 colors
  15. You're probably right, you don't need to buy copper. However, I was running strictly leadcore, and changed up to copper. I was running different lengths spreading the water column with some short copper to long copper, and both were effective. I suppose it comes down to personal preference and being confident and comfortable with your spread, and IME, copper has been very productive on my boat. Someone told me once, that a fishermans biggest adversity to overcome was change. Just like anyone else on this site, I read a lot of reports, I talk with a lot of other fishermen, and take what I can from them, which has lead me to being more productive when I spend time on the water, and I think at the end of the day that's what we're all looking to do.
