  1. Hey guys , do any of you know if there is an adjustment on how easy the main motor will steer. I would like to make it a little tighter as when my son or I move in the boat it tends to drift , it can be a pain because you dont want to be going circles with a full spread behind you. its a 2010 115 Mercury optimax.
  2. all depends what they will bite. caught more on flashers without wings. Hot spots come to mind. But if you like I could get you a picture of my stash of Spin Dr.
  3. 2 questions , how deep will that get and will your baits run the same with the less line out?
  4. I am sure that lots of us have lost a probe, including me. It happens when you least expect it . It can be a kick in the pants but it will make you learn another lesson out on the big pond.
  5. Ever consider Wisconsin? its still close enough to Illinois to service the boats but a whole lot cheaper to do business. I really like that 160 sportsman.
  6. I have the Depth Raider , wouldn't fish without a probe. As long as you have one . Most differences are due to personal preferences. After you fish with one you will ask yourself how you ever did without one. Most of the guys I know on this side of the pond have the Depth Raider.(Might be because it a local company)
  7. some real great shots there. I was dreaming about fishing.
  8. Josh what numbers are you talking on the Clairions , I was looking at them and they seem to top out about 130.00. The Catalinas start out at 200.00. The Solterras seem to start at 130.00 also, just dont' know which model numbers you are talking about.
  9. its going to be a slow process but of coures i will post a photo whens its done.
  10. Making a fixture for re spooling line and removing it . it will be able to strip the mono and save the leadcore to be put back on. also measure reliably how much line is on the reel. I have looked at alot of line spoolers and they don't have the capacity to put the line back on ( leadcore).
  11. Thanks to everyone who posted , Its going to be 2 convectors and 2 more magda dx45. With all the reels I have none of them performed badly. I fish 2-3 times a week weather permitting . Just can't justify the cash for tekotas . I also want to put a convertible top on my boat with side curtains. So I will stick with the convectors.
  12. I have a 17.5 ' boat and most of my rods are 8' 6" the exception is the braided dipsy rods I use are 10'6". this is to get around the 8'6" wire rods. It is personal preference but you may also need to get around other rods in your spread.
  13. This is not a fishing video but a video I shot while Lake Michigan was Angry this year, My camera skills ,and editing skills need work but it didn't' turn out that bad. In the first part I did get soaked so we shot the rest from the car. http://youtu.be/e1tHRjEp-rM
  14. Ranging from 1 of 2- 14 lb Rainbows , Biggest king on lake Michigan 22 lbs. 2nd 14lb rainbow, Caught by a friend of my wife who out did her husband. My biggest Brown for 2011. What a year for Rainbows
  15. what kind of brush and roller are you using? Looks similar to the etch type primer we use in the body shop
  16. Somewhere in Keating on Kings he Suggested a book called the Fisherman's Ocean. It goes into more detail on the how and why of currents. Its more geared at the ocean but it does apply to the great lakes. I have the book and have only got through 1/2 of it.
  17. Im guessing this is for a aluminum boat with out paint or paint that is wearing out.
  18. I have all the charts for the great lakes available, on my Ipad. Using a program called charts. My I pad has the internal gps . so as far as that goes it should work great, I will find out for sure when I can get on the water in the spring. The charts that are used are the same raster charts that you can download for free. After looking on the web site for navionics I my get that one too.
  19. in the one picture it looks hollow. Is that right?
  20. hey how it going Russ, how did you guys finish this year, haven't seen a post from you in a while. I guessing you were out hunting? Last time we were out I think was the 3 week in October. Threatened a couple of times but the boat went to rest last weekend till next year.
  21. Mark more than 50% of my rods are Okuma and are the pro line, and I couldn't be happier. the rods that have broken have been my own fault. with the exception of 1 which was replaced under warranty . if you fish every day or are a guide I would spend the extra money . If not Save the extra money and buy good reels. Just my opinion. Jim
  22. Yes the triangular handles help keep the rods from twisting . Another thing that helps is to put your side of your arm against the reel for those that don't have this type of grip. I also have a set of the GLT Salmon rods in 8' 6" . These are nice too. Have the same grip. I think they need just a little more back bone though.
  23. are you using SS wire connectors ? I am using something similar for the probe ,it doesn't connect to the eye on the probe it relies on the weight on the cable to make its connection. How deep will the probe give you the temp and speed done this way? Jim
