  1. Then I would go like Sherman said Get the big Jons with the auto stops ( I just bought them myself) you can keep the extensions off if you want to shorten things up . I have my manuals on the back and my new electrics on the sides . if I want to run off the back the riggers will reach , and I don't have to use the manuals . The only time I will use the manuals will be if I need more than 2 riggers. It just depends where the action is on any particular day.
  2. You didn't say if your running them on the rear or the side. Side riggers I would run as long as I could get , as for the rear long enough to clear the back of the boat . Just picked up 2 new electric side riggers for my boat and took the manuals and moved them to the rear. I like to keep the rear open and having long booms on the riggers allows to move them off to the side some to keep the back open if needed.
  3. Welcome Ronnie , There are a few of us from Milwaukee, What kind of boat do you have ? Do you fish? Is it possible to test a DSC radio for proper operation? Where can I get a Safety certificate for my boat?
  4. I had a little confrontation with a shore fisherman? He had his line way out into the river, had my balls down 17 ft a good 150ft or more from the wall . We started turning and this guy lights me up calling me all the names in the book , while my rod is telling me he's hooked. I don't call people names like that and the fact that he was way out of line screaming at me . I yanked the rod as hard as I could and broke his line. If you are going to fish from shore be aware that there is traffic and it does troll. I am sure he packed up right after that cause a big freighter went down the river. churned up soo much muck the dirty water turned to chocolate milk. While I troll the river I keep a reasonable distance from the shore fishermen , if they have to get out where the traffic is they are taking there chances. Last weekend I trolled the river with way too many boats in there , didn't have any problems .
  5. you could try changing your pinging speed and see what happends. I have a HDS5 and a tx96 . can't run them together unless I change the ping speeds. If you turn off your HDS5 does your temp level off? Are there any other electrical lines run with the Fish hawks the could cause interference. Is your battery new?
  6. Were you have problems with the hoards of boats in the gaps?
  7. Adam , we didn't make it out until 830 am . it seems that the crew that was suppost to go changed there minds , at least one of them. My son and I went out to 240 with all the warm water, tried for an while pulled gear and headed out to 350 , had riggers set from 130pm up to 60. Nick pick up one off a KJ fly and hot spot flasher,. only bite we had all day . Came in from 350 about 130, tried the river for a while and gave up. We had a blast on the ride out to 350 and back. I think I had the whole boat out of the water once or twice. Glad to hear you did well. I think we should have been out earlier. Next time the bus leaves on time . no excesses.. I cant' get out early next Saturday , but I hope to on Sunday. Hope the water is cooler and the fish are closer. Had the radio on didn't hear ya. it is possible I had it on the wrong channel . Jim
  8. hope the cold water is pushing over here , 68- 70 degree bath water out all the way to 300. need cold water!
  9. Wow wish we had some of that cold water, when it stops blowing out of the NE we will have lots of warm water. That won't be until Sunday.
  10. Hope you have a bigger boat , 3-6 feet tonight , and sucks through Saturday .
  11. I use 12 lb balls. I picked up my set of riggers on ebay less than 200.00. brand new. Captains pack.
  12. Nick and I were out today and started late. Tried out front near the break wall but only 1 shaker brown. I told Nick that we would try for a big fish for him today , so then we went to the river. Didn't take long, 1/2 way through the first pass he hooked up , Hot pink J plug, 19lb King , I think it looks more like a zombie but its still a fish. We turned the corner at MMSD and hugged the wall . Bang !! another one on the Hot pink J plug. Other rigger goes too , a small Brown. Talk it over with Nick and we would make our last pass , didn't' even get to the bridge and Nicks hooked up again. This is the funny part , it took less than 30 minutes to get three bruisers , and 1 Brown. They are here and looking rather dark. Nick had a great time 2nd day in a row. Tight Lines Jim
  13. Wish you lots of luck small craft advisory just went up, going to be breezy. We were suppost to go early but with the storms we (I) slept later. There were a good amount of boats fishing the gaps and harbor. If its not too bad I may try the north gap for a while . Have you been out deep this year? Could not believe the action out there today.
  14. Been tough trying to get out in the main lake fishing due to the wind /waves , but it finally let up enough today to get out after the morning storm. Set up in 70 feet zigzaged between 85 and 100 picking up a single fish in the first hour. Seeing that it was calm enough I decided to pull lines and run out deep. The water we were in had a temperature on top of 68 and down 60 at about 43. Ran out to 230 and set lines , surface temp at or about 70 and down 60 bath warm at 66-68 . Didn't matter after washing baits for about an hour and making the decision to pull lines in 5 and run back in to 180 the first of 2 doubles starts and would continue for the next 2 hours after changing baits to a frog pattern . Made four passes and the longest time without a fish on was about 15 minutes . Nick had one hit right after he set the board on . Rain move in and while pulling lines one last fish again on the 8 color with the same frog pattern. Had one bite off flasher fly. ITO (KJ) . 1 shaker Coho 1 Lake trout 1 King 6 Rainbows Tight Lines Jim
  15. 20lb big game here too. Check often for nicks in the line, change it when you find problems, its cheep and works well.
  16. I have both on my boat and use the Big Jons most of the time , the only thing is I wish they were electric. It gets old cranking up the ball all the time. As far as the big jons for durability two seasons and no complains. Both riggers are solid and perform well.
  17. Nice , glad to hear your getting out and getting fish.
  18. Nicely done, love those divers when they go. Great Job
  19. Nice Job Russ , Can't wait to get out there myself, just been too ruff after work this week.
  20. Yea you will have to go out deep for silver fish, the dark ones are in , Saw one jump out of the water dark and had lamprays on him too. If your after 4 yr olds try in front of the river or at the mouth of the marina. Sunday the Kyackers were working that area. They did pretty well too.
  21. very nice picture, the fog/haze gives it a Erie apperance
  22. I sharpen if they need it, or change the hook if its a cheep e that wouldn't' stand up to a 8 lb fish. Most of the spoons I buy have VMC hooks.
