indians rights

Trying to make friends? I don't think that is going to do it. I don't have a problem with the nets, but they do seem to be placed in an area that is prime salmon fishing. I guess what I would like to see is a little courtesy. And as far as cutting bouy's, yeah, that's smart!

i seen a video of more complaining fisherman about nets if you dont like the nets grow a set and cut some buoys if not quit crying PUBLIC LAKE FISH SOMEWHERE ELSE ITS HUGE not to mention lake michigan is easy to fish you have to be a real moron not to pul limits so quit crying and fish

This is an open forums, open for any discussion, and this is something that needs to be discussed.

Calling a bunch of salmon fisherman, "real moron's", definately will not win you any friends.

Do I delete this thread, or leave it for everyone to fire a shot back. Dammed if I do, dammed if I dont.

Looks like I be dammed. This post is open for discussion. If it gets out of hand, I will close it. All I have to say is watch your selection of words.

Well fishin indian i dont have no problem with your tribe or what tribe is out netting fish but the big question i have is that WHY put your nets where its the most productive for the local charter captains and sport fisherman fish, because you know we all fish there and the fish are there, with that said go find your own dam water to fish, your not the only one that makes your living out there.

And it just shows your ignorance by calling us fisherman "real morons". So if your a representitive for your tribal by far your NOT MAKING FRIENDS in the sportfishing community !!!!!!!

However the video is "blah" to me you's can say what you want on the taking of fish and how much you take.... I'm just glad you dont have your fingers in my walleye fishery here on the east side.....

And for the bait shop owner on the video said that there are tone of tackle in your nets, the reason for that is to me MARK YOUR NETS BETTER and i also have some tackle in there for that reason..

Ok i'm done venting....:D

BOYCOTT MANISTEE CASINO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw thanks Mike for leaving this up for all of us to read and see...

Why don't the damn indians go back to their birch bark canoes and spears instead of using the white man's inventions. I am fed up with the "It's our Hearitage", didn't know they had gas powered boats, compound bows, rifles etc. The Indians are as bad as some other groups that cry all the time about discrimination etc. Why should we have to pay for what happened back in the 1800"s, don't think any of us were the cause of what happened so it's time we stop paying for it.

I think comments like this is where alot of the problems start and to cut the bouys (who's side are you on) we had some of that happen this last season and it sure don't help its makes a bad situation into a dangerous one. I here that the GM Jim LaPort at the LR Casino has been fired maybe just maybe the casino is starting to feel the boycott :) and the lack of local support. I see this is your first post we usually welcome all new comers but i don't think you started off very well.

Thanks Mike for keeping this open for awhile.

Guys, I don't fish up there. So I can't put in any comments about that.

But, I see the above post, and the first thing I read is this

"if you dont like the nets grow a set and cut some buoys"

Just what is this guy doing? Is he trying to get even more "crap" started? ? ?

That statement leads me to believe that this guy is trying to stir things up!!

I just hope you guys up there can work things out, without any more violence

and discontent.

And this is surely NOT the way to make new friends.

"you have to be a real moron"

If you feel that its your right because this was your land to start with, then why arent u using a canoe and a spear. I have an idea why dont you guys get off the welfare and the crybaby crap and get a job? You werent around in those days and either were we, so why do we still owe you? :angry2: Like everybody else said not a good first post, you should have got out of the firewater a little earlier,:ps-003: sincerly, a salmon fishing moron!

This is almost as funny as a crook that got caught due to his own stupidity.

Thats a great idea about cutting buoys, thanks for spreading it out on the WORLD WIDE WEB.

  • 2 weeks later...

Intersting thread and I wonder if one of the adminstrators had something to do with this to get some people's minds working!

Aside from the nets being in prime fishing locations, my concern about the nets is this:

There are many fishing clubs/organizations nationwide that are dedicated to sustaining/improving fishing on many North American lakes and rivers including the great lakes. These clubs donate their time/money to give back to the lakes/streams in which they use for fishing/recreation.

How many "Native American Netting Associations" are there in North America that dedicate their time/money to sustaining/improving their fisheries?

It seems to me that there is a lot of "taking" going on and no giving back.

Great! I would like to know what is given back by the Native American community and where the funding comes from. I think it's important to know if the funding comes from a source such as licenses or if it is state funded.

The reason I mentioned fishing clubs/organizations and not DNR is that fishing clubs donate their own time and money and the only payback is a good fishery (no paycheck). State and tribal DNR are making a paycheck. What more other than tribal DNR is offered to give back to North America's fisheries?
