2MD Posted July 22 Posted July 22 3-4 footers out of the north kept it interesting - figured we had to go because we didn't wanna be out done again by WaveDancer setup in 130 and trolled NW out to 145 and eventually swung it around into a south troll which was more comfortable all bites for us came in that 138-144 but I guess that was probably just because that is where we hung out all night zig zagging went 6 for 13 with the bites almost all being matures moonshine mag spoons and other glow spoons performed well tonight (riggers down 45-65, copp200, copp250, copp300) meat participated 3 or 4 times too on deep diver out 120 and also copp350 honestly everything that could have gone wrong did and we broke more lines and suffered more tangles than usual... it felt humbling for sure! at one point had a copp150 break above the board and lost the whole stinking package including a lucky jplug still a fun night to be out there... fishing in taller seas makes it all the sweeter when it works out and for pug it did work out because while he lost just a pig of a king on a rigger slider when the reel jammed he did still manage to score on this 22#er on copp250 even after it tangled into 2 dipseys coming in IMG_7453_1.mp4 5
littleboat Posted July 22 Posted July 22 What a story. Glad you made it back.Sent from my SM-A156U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Big kings in big seas makes for a very competitive evening. Nice score on landing a 22lb king - Pug looks proud of his work. Get out the smoker! Hope you get lucky and get your board back and that lucky J-plug as well. And glad you made it back safely.
Lef T Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Huh, tried to like this post but I cannot add anymore reactions today. First time for that. Good job 2MD. Rough seas for sure. Sounds like today is the day to retie lines. Sorry about that, but I'll be doing some of that myself. 1
SeaFoam Posted July 22 Posted July 22 What a night is right! Beautiful big kings make it worth it. Your angling skills beat the high seas!! Your smile in the picture with the huge fish says it all. Speaking of losing the whole rig… I fished two ninja boards out of the lake yesterday morning. He had his name and number smartly on the boards. When I contacted him he told me he “had to make decisions” when they started taking on water and he headed straight in spooling some reels and losing a 300 copper setup including the rod and reel. He said there are a couple more boards out there. If someone sees them be aware he would like his rod and reel back. I can share his number if he is so lucky. Be safe. 1
Dennis hageman Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Weatherman was definitely wrong on forcast. Made it out to 50ft and turned it around last night. Nice job in rough seas.
zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Wow. Now that is a story. Taking on water??? I guess that capt. made the right call getting in safely and letting the gear go to a loss. I would do the same without hesitation. 2
