I am sure this has been gone over before, but can someone explain the secret weapon rig? Is this running your leadcore all the way out and then hooking your backer to your downrigger?

If so, am I correct in assuming that if I run 10 colors, hook the backer to the downrigger and take the ball to 100' the lure will run at about 140'.

Can you do the same thing with copper?

Thank you.

Your right on track. We usually run a 2 or 3 color on a rigger but when im running really deep i have put full cores on it. Where you attach your board is where you put it in the release. When you run SRW have it your deepest rigger. Theres alot of line out there and if you run three to four riggers keep the ones closest to the srw higher with shorter leads. I bet you could run copper on it i dont know why not. I have not heard of people running copper on riggers.

It will work sort of however you are not accounting for blowback or the change in water density. I have ran a full core off the ball at 180ft I doubt the lure even got to 200ft and that was with a 15lb ball. I will say it is funny to wacth some one run and grab a rigger and after a battle realize they still have a full core to deal with. Call it a Super SWR or Super PITA is about the same. If you need to get deep you need longer cables on your rigger and heavy balls. I put 400ft cables on my deep rigger and am getting a 20lb pancake weight for it. I just sold 2 of my riggers including the one I had a probe on so see me at the swap meet I will have a slightly used 400ft cannon cable for sale since I have to pull it to install my probe cable on the rigger. Will make someone a fair deal on it.

That is somthing that should be figured in to. I was running a full core 120 down on a rigger and i had a full core on a board. A 10lbs pound king hit on the rigger down 120 and came up and got hooked in the core on the board. So when running long srw keep your rods minimal really deep.

I tried running a 5 color off the rigger last year. The problem I had was the amount of slack in the line when the rigger trips. You have to real like crazy to catch up with the fish. By the time I caught up with the lure, the fish was gone. I will be sticking with the traditional 2 color.

ludington tourney two years ago fishing on my friends boat. we followed the pro boats up to manistee 400 foot water. couldn't figure out their secrect so we went deep. all he had was about 100 ft cable on each rigger. we ended up running a 150 copper and a 300 copper and we started to produce fish. he was to cheap to buy new cable for the downriggers so that was the way we put fish in the boat. also adding a couple 1 pound balls to each 450 copper to get them deep enough. that was the only time i have ever had to do something that stupid to catch fish.
