  1. Thats awesome, we have Walleye for Warriors on Saginaw Bay this summer. I think theres 90 boats and 175 vets signed up. I know im looking forward to getting these fine folks out on the water for a day of fun.
  2. Nicely done...Been some real nice Kings caught the last few days....Im not rushing, but i cant wait for a big August King!!!
  3. Great report and well done on the fish..Way to whack em!
  4. Well done some great quality to those fish!!!
  5. Glad to hear all ended well for you. Dealing with insurance companies can definitely raise your blood pressure!!! The boat is looking good.
  6. Good luck to you Matt. I hope everything goes well for you.
  7. Nicely done. Kids look really happy with their catch and thats great!
  8. You definitely want to keep tension on wire at all times otherwise itll wann coil up on ya and that leads to kinking. Also, if and when you spool up, be certain that you spool it up as tightly as you can. You dont want wire spooled loosely as the wire on the very top of the spool leading to your lure will cut down into the wire on the spool and get stuck if its not spooled tightly. I like to take a small mini disk or a drop weight and hook it on and let the wire out and then reel it in when i do my initial set up. In reguard to the tube, id just use about an inch.
  9. Good work man. Without that it may have been several weeks!
  10. I dont know anything about it, but im sure its probably a good line. I really havent found a braid that wasnt super strong. I got a good deal on some PP a few years back....750 yds at Meijer for...sit down...$16 SCORE!!!
  11. Good deal. Im looking forward to hearing about your adventures this summer. I know youll like the charter gig. You meet allot of great folks and will have allot of fun along the way....ecspecially when you have children on board and they catch theyre first etc. Good stuff...enjoy buddy.
  12. What an awesome trip....Got to have a great time with the kids and then the mixed bag. Any other time of the year and we'd be asking where the brown was for the slam and not the King...LOL
  13. 8'6" Shakespear Wolverine Charter Edition rods for me w/Daiwa SG47LCA and 20# mono....With spoons at 4-8 dollar a pop and a buck a swivel im not into losing them with any regularity. Spring browns we use the walleye gear with 10-12# line. But for the most part, thats board fishing for us.
  14. So your hooked in parallel then.
  15. I like to put a short section of surgical tube between the beed and the rod tip on the wire as well. That acts like a shock and keeps the line really taunt when you reel i to the tip.
  16. Big boards are easy Matt. I ran them a ton in my early years of big water fishing as well as during my chartering days. If you set the spool tension on the reel just right so that its not too tight and too loose the bait can pull the release out and down the line while you run another out. Kinda like letting a dipsey creep out with the drag. Also, some tips on strikes. Watch the planer board line where the release is. Youll see the release pull out on the planer line making a more pronounced "V" if it gets fowled up, has a shaker or just a solid bite. Gives you that added response time compared to watching the rod tips. Just a little jump to get up, get on the rod and get that slack out. Youll catch on quick.
  17. JayD has it as well and really likes it. If he sees this im sure he'll chime in
  18. Well, for what its worth, i didnt add it on cause i rarely use a state owned dock or visit their state parks. So, i didnt get it. Then my Dad wants to go to the State Park last ice ice fishing. So, i go and pay the parking thing and drop it in the pipe. About two weeks ago i get a call and the lady from the park says we dont do that anymore. For another two dollars ill give you a sticker for your lisecne plate. So, i go in, give her my name, she goes int he safe, finds my envelope, i pay her the two bucks and now i have the endorsement. You can probably get it at the state park and add it. Its only good till you need to renew you plates. My only question and i havent put it on yet, is where do i place it? I didnt think to ask when i got it. But, id assume in the upper left of the plate as i cant put it over my month expiration sticker.
  19. Here is the recommended method for blood run copper. http://www.coppertrollingwire.com/copper-fishing-wire-line-knots-albright/ By far, the best knot for a backer-to-copper or copper-to-leader is the Blood Run Twist. This is the ONLY knot we recommend for successfully using our copper. The Blood Run Twist is essentially an Albright Knot started off with a tight twist of the copper tag onto itself, depicted below. It is important to remember that copper is a “soft metal”. Twisted soft metal can separate strands when the line is bent, such as the start of a traditional Albright knot. By “twisting” prior to the Albright, the strands are twisted together to provide a solid tight section of copper just behind the copper knot. ***You can click on the images below to zoom in for a close up view***
