  1. Thanks Ed! It’s been a good season. Got my butt whipped up there the other day. I think I gotta look farther down next trip. Water was high and dirty but the increase in suckers is telling me the fat lady is singing. We caught a couple chrome hens that were spawned out and lost a couple and a nice walleye popped off right at the boat. Pretty quiet trip otherwise.
  2. I’d put one on. You never know when your engine could fail and how long before help can arrive.
  3. It’s been a good spring for steelhead despite the cold temps. Get out there’s still lots of fish in the system. spawn, beads and jigs have been producing for me.
  4. Running Daiwa SG47 LC's and Daiwa Heartland Roller Rods. 1000' of Blood Run wire fills the spool perfectly. Good luck with your purchase.
  5. I think there are seveal factors involved. If i know im on fish and my baits are in the right spot, almost always speed or troll direction is the the problem IMO. If that doesnt solve the problem then its time to start changing baits. IMO too often proven fish producers are swapped out before troll direction, speed and presentation placement are evaluated. No sense in swapping out your A game for second best until youve covered those things IMO. If your confident there arent any fish around, then you have to make a choice of going out farther or going in closer. Water temp will likely be a big player in this decision.
  6. I dont think there is a set rule. Put em out and theyll hit one or the other or both. Just like any presentation, they all have their day. Most times i have a mix of 8,10,12" out and they usually all take fish. So, my advise, run em, find whats working and give it to em.
  7. If you can set up two sets of lights Jason id recommend a set of standard bulbs with amber covers and then a set of halogens. The amber lenses dont blind you and you can leave them on if you want. Gives light to rig etc, and then when you need it, kick on the halogens. Good luck buddy.
  8. Great report Ed. Sorry to hear about the boat. Good luck witht he repairs. Glad you made it in safely.
  9. Nice work Matt. Some awesome fishing over there right now. I hate my new job right now...LOL
  10. 200,250,300 work great for me in the 32#. But, there are times when those short 100-150's are invaluable tools. Its a tough choice.
  11. Yep those yellow rods are all Wolverine Charter rods from Ugly Stick. Im not sure why they quit making them. I buy em everytime i find them.
  12. It was heavy and there was no ice in there either. It wouldnt fit. The young buck and i had to stop three times before we got to the cleaning station. Been snacking on smoked salmon all week and this morning i made a smoked salmon pate. I absolutely love it. Cant wait to get back to the gold coast.
  13. Dont be afraid to use your spin doctors with meat rigs. They work very well. I had an 8" Mnt Dew crush glow SD with a glow frog meat rig on a high diver 170 back last week that would go off as soon as i reset it. I ended up running two of em it was working so well. But, like mentioned, large paddle type flashers like DWs', stingers or Oki Flashers, John King Reel Flashers are all good ways to go. The BTI's from John King have been very good on our dipseys. Ive had my best luck with blue label fished around 2.0-2.2.
  14. Ok, so your only doing the copper side of the connection. I thought guys were doing it over both sides which is why i always had the speculation on this.
  15. I sure wish the water would come back up. Not only for us fisherman to easier access the lakes through our ports, but also for the native vegetation that helps our fish and wildlife. I do a ton of duck hunting and those phragmites are completely useless outside of cover for deer to hide in. Completely taken over areas where native vegetation used to be and waterfowl and shore birds once fed and dabbled. Hopefully the cycle will turn around sooner than later.
  16. I havent done that. I just use the spro swivels for my splices. What i do is slightly drop the rod tip and it allows it to slip through the guides easier. Im having problems wrapping my head around the idea of putting shrink tube on and applying heat to it when theres mono or fluoro under it. Maybe im putting to much into it, but it just seems like a weak link in the chain if your not careful with the heat. I also agree with the sentiments about Blood Runs product line. Its great stuff and their copper is no different. The flexability of the copper makes it a joy to use compared to other copper that ive used. 200,250,300' segments always seem to fire for me in the 32#. And my recent trip over was no exception to that.
  17. Braid doesnt have any memory at all, so Id be looking at your braided set ups for a burr on the rod guides or something. That stuff is tough as nails and it takes a whole lot to bust it. Only time ive seen it break easily is if its really old and has had lots of use.
  18. I run mine whatever my wing span is. Makes netting easier that way. Also i like the Elberta Clippers as theyre easy on easy off particularly if your running a fixed slider and have a fish on the main line. http://www.gloutdoors.com/elbertacliperfixedslider.aspx
  19. I buy mine from Franks in Linwood or at Captn . Chucks. I guess it just depends on where your going through. Good luck to your. I like the blue label.
  20. I run a lot of flashers on my wire divers and i get that curly line too. I think its inevitable no matter what swivel your using or what rods. Ive run wire on several different rods and have had the same results. All aftco roller guide rods. I run sampo swivels on mine and still have that issue. IMO the curls have no effect on the wires strength. The key is to keep it tight as suggested. Be religious about this. If not one of them curls is gonna turn into a kink and a kink into a lost fish and rig. As mentioned a bead and a piece of surgical tube on the line and reel right to the rod tip. Ive done this for years and never have an issue at all with kinks or breakage that isnt self inflicted.
  21. Welcome to the site. Do a lot of reading. A bunch has changed in the world of how we fish salmon and trout since then.
