  1. Dan, you had me wondering what a "white fish" was? I didn't have a clue what you were talking about, until you posted your pic's. Are they good table fare ? Thanks, Bill
  2. Very cool pics. Sure glad he had the camera with him.
  3. I found another Penn Yan. This one is 1989 265 Pro Hunter (?) 26' 5" and has 10' beam. The hull appears sound, but, it has not been in the water since 1999. It came with a 350 Chevy engine, that is shot. Single screw. Hard Top. No canvas. No extras. No trailer. What do you guys think would be a fair price to offer for this boat ? Thanks in advance, Bill Oh yeah, I am going back this week to check the stringers and deck etc.
  4. Sure is one fine looking mount. Congrats on taking such a fine animal.
  5. Anyone do any predator calling? I used to call alot when I lived up in NY. Haven't done any here in Oh. YET ! ! I was visiting a site the other night, and came across a link to this site: http://www.western-rivers.com They have a special going on now, where you can get 2 FREE calls, 1 electronic and 1 hand held, just pay the shipping, $9.95 http://www.western-rivers.com/promo.html They also have this page: http://www.western-rivers.com/downloads.html Where they have an extensive list of calling sounds in MP3 format for FREE download. **Mike, I hope this is OK, I am not trying to promote them, just passing along the FREE stuff. Bill **
  6. Congrats Jay. A buck in the truck is way better than a bunch of them in the woods! ! !
  7. Nice bunch of birds ! Just I don't agree with having "beer" in the field.
  8. Bob, I have not seen the actual catches, but, it comes from some very good sources, that walleye are being taken out in front of Fairport, in the 30-35 foot range. I haven't had the ability to get out there, but hope to before the season ends.
  9. That is my camo, deer feeder.
  10. Here is the 5 pointer I took on Monday morning at 7:45am. One shot, at 11 yards. Between the shoulders and it was all done. The top picture was taken a few days before, on my trail cam. There are still 7 more bucks in the area. And the does and yearlings are out of control.
  11. This is good News Dan. I also have been putting off getting in on this thing. Now I am glad that I waited.
  12. I am thinking we will be seeing some changes very soon. By that, I mean the value of the American dollar is dropping on the world currency exchange. Historically each time this has happened in the past, we have experienced an upward swing in our economy. The last time this was really noticeable, was after the trouble was brewing in the middle east, mid 80's(?) And yes it is true, the futures are controlled by the "speculators" OK., I'm done now.
  13. Good Report. Glad you guys are getting into them, I was out the other night, managed to boat 6 fish, till it started kickin out of the East. Slow ride back home.

  15. Mark, what engine do you have?
  16. Dear BoatU.S. Member, Thanks to some great teamwork, the threat of a new EPA discharge permit for all your boats is gone! On Tuesday night, President Bush signed into law "The Clean Boating Act of 2008," which gives recreational boats a permanent exemption for the court imposed EPA discharge permit. I thank each of you for helping create this victory for boating. Every time we asked for your help, you were there to push the legislation further down the path towards successful passage. You contacted your Members of Congress and helped them understand the importance of boating in your life. And Congress heard the loud voices of tens of thousands of boaters! Nice work! Enjoy the rest of the summer on the water! Margaret Podlich Vice President of Government Affairs BoatU.S.
  17. Sure am glad I was not the Captain of that tug !
  18. Huge Oil Spill Shuts Mississippi River Reuters posted: 3 HOURS 24 MINUTES AGO comments: 283 PrintShare filed under: National News Text SizeAAA HOUSTON (July 23) - A collision between a chemical tanker and a fuel barge on the Mississippi River spilled over 400,000 gallons (1,560,000 liters) of fuel oil and prompted the U.S. Coast Guard to close a 29-mile (47-km) stretch of the waterway around New Orleans, a Coast Guard spokesman said. The river remained closed between Mile Marker 99, near the Harvey Canal, and Mile Marker 70, downstream from New Orleans, as of 3:00 p.m. CDT (4 p.m. EDT). Crews Scramble to Contain Fuel Barge split in halfAlex Brandon, AP More than 400,000 gallons of fuel oil spilled into the Mississippi River around New Orleans Wednesday after a chemical tanker and a fuel barge collided overnight. The Coast Guard closed a 29-mile stretch of the river as crews scrambled to contain the spill. Here, tug boats hold up the barge, which split in half. AOL News Vessel traffic was halted after the 1:30 a.m. CDT (2:30 a.m. EDT) collision in which the MV Tintomara cut in half an American Commercial Lines barge loaded with No. 6 fuel oil. About 420,000 gallons of thick, slow-to-evaporate fuel spilled from the barge, but nothing leaked from the Tintomara, officials said. A sheen at least 12 miles long spread down river, and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said efforts were being made to minimize the impact on air and water quality and wildlife. Drinking water intake was diverted or closed in the area and citizens were asked to conserve water use to maximize supplies on hand pending resumption of water treatment operations, the New Orleans water department said. Cleanup crews spread booms, which are floating barriers, to try to contain the oil and keep it out of sensitive areas, said Jean Kelly, spokeswoman for the state environmental agency. State staff were at the scene and still gathering details of the environmental impact, she said. "We have a lot of wildlife in the southern delta," Kelly said. The river closure stalled at least 10 vessels northbound and 15 southbound on the river, as well as 29 at locks waterways connecting to the river as of 3:00 p.m. CDT, a Coast Guard spokesman said. Three refineries with 560,000 barrels per day of capacity were in the affected area, although there were no reports of effects on refinery operations. Some are served by pipeline rather than by vessel traffic on the river. A Coast Guard environmental strike team also was on scene, along with helicopters and a Coast Guard vessel, the Coast Guard said. Tugboats were holding the pieces of the barge near the Crescent City Connection bridge, downstream from Harvey Canal, officials said. Refineries in the area include Chalmette Refining LLC, which handles up to 193,000 bpd, and ConocoPhillips' Belle Chasse refinery with 247,000 bpd capacity, both of which reported no impact. Chalmette Refining is a joint venture between Exxon Mobil and Venezuelan state oil company, PDVSA. Murphy Oil, which owns the 120,000 bpd refinery at Meraux did not respond to telephone calls. 19. This is a ray of hope. Now if George will sign it.
  20. Cpt. Crabbass, Doug, Please don't take this the wrong way, it is not directed towards you my friend. Well I went and made the 700 mile round trip to NY to look at, and pick up the 26' Penn Yann, that you have all heard me talking about... Well let me start this way. We left here at 9 am with my tandem axle trailer in tow, paid $ 25 dollars in tolls to NY State, and $150 in gas finally after 5 1/2 hrs. Arrived at approx. 3 Pm. Then the rain started ! No big deal. First thing we noticed, some had removed the anchor windlass ! Then as we got into it more, there was extensive damage to the Port side at the rub rail. Rail was pulled away and crescent shaped cracks all along the port side, from where it hit something real hard. The underneath, there was a spot where the engine -transmission sets, that the bottom was "bulged" out like the glass was weakened and settled. Then as I was inspecting the transom area, I found a vertical crack right along the center line of the transom. Now on to the interior. Boat is extremely roomy ! Has a fresh water bait tank behind drivers seat. When I opened up the engine compartment, there was a foot of water and oil in there ! Then I stepped down to check out the stringers, bounce, bounce, this one (port side is springy) took out trusty pocket knife, and went right on thru the glass and into the stinger ! Next, there is evidence of extreme heat damage. Was told it was a possible lightning strike. (Yeah right) The hatch covers, near the transom showed a burn pattern, enough to make the glass weak to the touch. But there was NO burn patterns on the deck where the covers fit into ! ! At the transom on the Port side interior, the was evidence of heat and smoke damage. But, the Trim pump showed sings of melting from the TOP! ! If there would have been a bilge fire, there should have been lost of soot and smoke on the underside of things in there. The blower hoses where burned to nothing but the wire springs. And I found the left overs of a "road Fusee" laying in the bilge! On the exterior of the hull, there are numerous spots that the top coat is chipped away, revealing the glass underneath. I admit, when I first heard about this boat, I was told it would be a "project boat" but, I didn't expect to find it was that much of a project ! When I asked the Owner what happened to the windlass, I was told "we didn't remove anything" Also the fish finders had been removed. All in all, it was an expensive and timely learning experience. Total Gas $300, tolls $50 dollars, Time, 12 hrs. x's 3. But, at least I am not stuck with a boat that would have cost me 6 months and $5000.00 to make ready. Sorry for the rant, I just needed to share this info.
