  1. I'm planning on purchasing a Minn Kota bow mount trolling motor to use as an autopilot on my 18ft four winns this year. I have a few questions. 1. How much thrust is recommended for keeping the nose steady on lake Michigan? 2. Terrova or PowerDrive? 3. What kind of batteries do you recommend?
  2. Im afraid of a repeat of the dove bill, but the good news is if prop 1 fails it gets overruled in the spring by the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act so a wolf hunt 2015 can still happen.
  3. August 21 a cruise ship came thru holland channel while we were on our way out.
  4. When you say 3 yr old fish do you mean mature or immature fish? Most people dont realize the bulk of spawning fish are 3 yrs old...
  5. I saw 1 or 2 at the bait shop in holland 2 miles east of the launch. They said they were getting a shipment of flashers in soon as their whole stock was low.
  6. been that way for 2 days now =) cohos already ran in a major port too
  7. Unless he changed bob usually fishes holland
  8. The key to meat rigs is getting the right roll. slow and seductive is what you want, 1 -2 rolls per second. I use john king meat rigs mostly, i like them a little better then big weenies. Also the 10 and 12 inch meat paddles from john king or the big weenie look a likes are good. I dont like spin doctors with meat. I also mix up strips and whole bait. Fresh does work but brined holds up better.
  9. Just broke mine today. If you can't sell it I will take it.
  10. According to the new bouy, south haven has warm water. Somewhere between there and gh should be fish.
  11. Especially with 20k in damage to the bouy alone let alone an outdrive and a tow bill.
  12. Seems the wind readings have stayed at .1 knot for a while. Perhaps its broken? And no new pictures/videos since the 26th
  13. Looking for a slip for saturday and sunday in manistee. Any suggestions? Fish cleaning station and power for charging batteries would be nice. 18 foot glass boat
  14. Capt John King meat rigs. Also lots of videos on his site and on youtube from him. They just plain work
  15. No that bouy is 10 miles north in port sheldon in 90 FOW
  16. Will you mark them on bottom? Yes. Not always but you certainly can if you know what your looking for on your particular sonar. Sometimes the fish are in one specific area so I drive around a bit and see if i have any good marks. I also dont stay in one depth more then 40ish mins without a hit. Usually you will find at least a couple hits an hour if your around em. Ask dave ash "killin it" about fishing lakers. He knows quite a bit. As far as areas the closer you to get saugy area the better they are. You should still be able to find some in PS though.
  17. any nice lakers? interesting about the current.
  18. turns make a difference. Heavier coppers will sink faster I believe
  19. Hey man 4 for 6 with a 15lber beats my first 6 trips. Read the reports and follow pattern between em. Depths temperatures colors etc. You will sometimes find a pattern between successful outings reported. That along with looking for temp breaks will help you find fish each trip. If your really not sure then a west troll with a little north/south in it is a good way to cover water and find fish. If you get a hit then turn north/south and see if you can get more hits. Speed for me is my biggest issue as I dont have a speed probe. Making wide "S" turns can help you zone in on a specific speed or direction the fish are hitting at. If most of your hits are on the rods on the inside of the turn then slow down a bit when you go straight. the opposite for outside of turns. Don't always follow the pack either. I often do better on busy days by going off in LA LA land by myself.
  20. I had the dealership reinforce my mounts with steel plates. When im running both riggers there is a decent amount of flex in my rigger bar. So far I just cross my fingers and hope the aluminum holds.
  21. Almost bought these but ended up winning an ebay bid for big jons at the same price. Havent heard anything but good thins about fishons stuff.
  22. It's June. Not sure about whitehall but in Holland it basically means get on the lake EARLY for a few kings and then once sun is up tough it out and hope for a few more, or pound lakers/head deeeeep for steelies. I feel great to even take a hit this month. Fish in the box means I have great ju ju.
  23. I've never had much success with flashers on long lines. I always do well enough with spoons and plugs.
