  1. 1. Dipsy color hasnt really mattered to me. As far as flasher and fly color i just try different combinations i like and see what works. my best are big white paddle/blue or green fly mt dew spinnie, mt dew fly. white pro troll, mirage fly with green beads blue spinny, mirage fly blue beads. 2. My general rule of thumb for leaders length on flys is 3 times the length of the flasher, unless im running big paddles where i use 4 times the length. Try some shorter and some longer but in most cases 3 times the flasher length is good. For meat rigs i use the length right out of the box. 3. I use my snubber right behind the dipsys attached to the leader. I want it to snub the fish hitting the dipsy, having it the other way would make it very hard to pop the dipsy to bring it in. 4. As long as your hands are clean, and your not smoking all the time you should be ok, but adding scent cant hurt i suppose.
  2. gold coast outfitters is port sheldon. pretty good shop. Nice selection.
  3. al n bobs doesnt have a very big selection on big lake fishing. outdoorsman is probably your best bet unless you go to the lakeshore.
  4. Left the pierheads around 4:45am and trugged south into the waves about 2/3 of the way to saugy. Set lines in 75 and setup northwest. First fish at 5:30, then pulled lines at 7:30 with the building waves. Ended 2 for 4. Both lost fish ran straight at the boat the whole time. managed to Land one other that was running at me. She really wanted to be in my cooler. Rigger at 45 - regular blue flounder pounder - 1 for 1 200 copper - green flounder pounder plug - 1 for 2 full core - blue splatterback silver horde - 0 for 1
  5. beats working! and you got the skunk out
  6. Temps for the great lakes salmonoids doesnt seem to matter as much. Ive always heard "look for the 45-50 degree water and youll find em! Most of my fish come in 60-70 degree water...
  7. This time of year evening bite is mostly right at sunset. You can pick a few up during high sun but its usually hit or miss. Meat rigs work for me mid day but not a ton of action.
  8. Dave you are so lucky i lost that 20lber at the net
  9. it wasnt a double trouble was it? and was it bloodrun copper?
  10. outdoorsman has blue label green label and erie deerie strips and premium strips. gold coast in port sheldon has some aswell
  11. If you want guaranteed fish (so to speak) and the weather permits, fish deep 150 to 220 will hold lots of coho steelies, mix sized kings and laker. Might not find lots of big fish but ill bet youll have lots of action. This time of year it seems to be the cool place to be if your a fish
  12. my 300' 45lb snagged bottom in 78 foot with mag moonshine running 2.4 sog and snagged bottom in 84 foot going 2.0 sog a bit shallower with a big paddle.
  13. I never thought id say it but "i love big weenie!"
  14. Bring it! this is a fun type league. Feels like a big league but the guys will answer questions and help ya catch fish. Ive learned a lot from WMFL.
  15. Fish are scatterd or have lock jaw. 80-100 FOW and 120-130 FOW seems to hold fish. Try a mix bag of depths and lures and work from there. Seems most of the action is right at sunrise/sunset
  16. Some lingo you will pick up on: "The sliders" - South of holland, a few big sand dunes "The Ball" - even more south, almost to saugatuck, and old radar station that looks like a weather ball. "The stacks" - north at port sheldon a large cooling tower for the power plant. Pretty easy to see. and as said its pretty darn flat. Lakers can usually be taken at the sliders in 80-100 foot. Blues and greens always seem to work, the dolphins almost always go down for me.
  17. You running glow stuff? Its my ticket for low light fishing. Moonshine flounder pounder and blue flounder pounder take fish every single time. But like jake said fish shallower. At night all the aquatic creatures rise to near surface depths and the bait soon follows... followed by the salmon
  18. Paddle "Spinnie" or spin doctor
  19. Boats n ho's is in, come hell or 6 footers.
  20. I was in port sheldon with the same situation. Only bites i got were right at sunset with moonshines.
  21. They have stricter limits on number of rods. But yeah i suppose 12 rods with copper lead divers and sliders looks a bit crazy
  22. silver j-plug red head
  23. Planning on hauling my boat up to the ludington - manistee area weekend on august 10th. Any suggestions on where to launch? I have a 18foot boat, just never been to the area looking for places to avoid etc. Also any general guidelines for fishing up there? I imagine itll be pretty packed.
  24. Beats my biggest! nice job
