  1. Good job on the week captain, and huge Kudos to the charter community in Saugatuck for getting the 7th graders involved and showing what the Salmon fishery is all about. You guys ROCK
  2. I am with Jason the more butts in seats the better, My ideal is a party of 5 on my boat 24' with an 8'6" beam, 4 riggers and lots of rod holders but the trees will give me a more open transom and gunwale.
  3. A bad day for weather and props but sounds like u weren't bored at all. The prop thing is always a bad deal. Well done!!!!!!
  4. I just bought a new set of trees from Great Lakes Planers, $287.00 free shipping on EBAY. They are very nice units and are going to solve the problems of seperating the boards and let me put out a better set. Same number of rods but easier to handle. Another plus is that they act as a net holder too.
  5. Thats a big 10-4 nothin but trouble I run a 14 rod spread and dont need more in the way off the transom.
  6. Good Job Terry, The fish look great but PINK rods?????. Well done by all.
  7. I use the double uni knot, for tying swivels and terminal rigs snell knot on flys that i make, for attaching leader to lead core the Willis knot and for copper I still tie the albright knot but I do put a drop of super glue on both knots. keeps the knot from pulling out when attaching braid to the core or copper. My biggest thing is I check my leaders for rub and now I check my backer where the board attaches because I had 30# power pro break right at the board this week. Good Luck and the Grogs Knots site is a super refresher for people getting started or for old hands.
  8. Man it is 6:00 AM and I should have edited my report fm yesterday I was so beat when i posted couldn't think str8. We moved fm 45 out to 60 FOW before we took our first hit 45 dn on the rigger, that was on a fuzzy bear orange killer, the color pattern was scattered mostly anything yellow and orange and carmel dolphin stinger in the new holo pattern, the flashers didnt go all day, but the 4 and 5 color were our best deal with the afore mentioned spoons, we trolled out to 110 FOW and caught fish in all depths of water but the deepest fish was a laker on 300 feet of 45# copper stinger orange killer.
  9. Had a good not great day out of St Joe today. Ended the day 6 for 10, 4 Kings and 2 Lakers. Fished in tight early but moved out to 60 FOW and the shallow the first fish hit on a rigger at 40, on a carmel dolphin Stinger, followed up by another on the other high rigger at 45. I kept 2 flasher fly rigs on bottom all day and not a hit. The Kings came high in the water column, 4 color, 5 color and the riggers all took hits the lakers came on a dipsey fishlander frog, yellow red fishlander on 2 out 110 in 95 FOW, and on a 5 color green dolphin DW spoon. 4 fish 1 came off when the hook straightened due to a reel malfunction, and the others were because of a broken leader and fisherman inexperience. The Lake was flat and the wind was SE until we left the water. Small shower no lightning and a great day. The Charter boats were in 45 FO/W and crossing the channel all day some did well and others Well?
  10. Well Grant at least u got back in, and it is fixable. Good luck on the Can2Can tourney.
  11. Now those are some real KINGS. WTG Kenny, My Brother keeps sending me pics of the fish he is getting in Oregon and we got it all over the west coast guys.
  12. Well done Jim! Once again the good old Lake Trout saves a trip.
  13. Saturday was kinda slow only managed 3 fish 2 kings and my first Laker of the year. Sunday was a different story. Started on a north troll in 40 FOW set 1 rigger and ran out a full core hooked on the board and turned to set another line and the Full core fired. Nice spring King about 6#, got re set and we had a hit on a 4 color with A fishlander orange moonglow with black tape, this rig took 3 hits and boated 2 kings, the 3rd one came off when a large stick caught up in the line and knocked the fish off just about 20 ft fm the net. The next fish was a nice King on a fullcore with a tequila Sunrise Fishlander spoon. We then had another hit on that rig and the old tree limb hit us again, cut the backer on the full core took the whole rig. We did manage to save the Church Walleye Board. All of the Kings came between 45 and 78 FOW on a West NW Troll at 2.5 mph. The Lakers came on a green Sigs rig Fly and Bechold flasher in green prism. In 95 to 110 FOW same direction but 90' Down.
  14. We finally got back over to the lake and probably should have stayed home but ended up 1 for 3 a nice king in 55 FOW 45 dn DW blue grn dolphin. Other hits were on full core Stinger NBK and a dipsye on 2 no ring out 90 in 50 fow. Will down load the pic of the one King soon and plan on going out Thurdsday if I can put together a crew. Any one want to go PM me. tonight and we can hook up.
  15. Steve if u had homeowners insurance they should replace any lost or ruined tackle. Talk to your insurance agent and file a claim. That is what u pay premiums for. As far as cleaning goes Lemon Joy is the best bet I can think of.
  16. All of the suggestions will work, the most important thing to remember is that u have to get some experience and find what presentations work for you. I use 20# Ande on all my spring reels and 25# Flea Flicker for later in the season just because I dont like getting my rigger lines filled up with sea fleas. The depth that you get is effected more than lure action by using heavier lines. My Power pro Dipsey presentations get deeper than mono Presentations and my wire dipseys really dive. Its a matter of drag. Just use the leader material and break strength u find works for you.
  17. Very well done Don and from one Granpa to a happy little girl Chloe u just keep calling those fish for your POPS>
  18. Well done Tarrey! The May fishing is starting early! Still April and fishing in water deeper than 20'. Hope to get out next Sunday!
  19. If coho reached 20# u would never land them, they will pound for pound fight as hard as a steelhead. The do like to roll and make a mess if u get into bigger ones. I grew up on the Columbia River Watershed in Washington state, and we did get some 15# Silvers that were tackle busters. Now for the line diameter issue try using 30# power Pro braid for the diameter u want then use about 60 feet of 20# fluoro carbon leader. Be sure to use leader specified fluoro carbon as the bulk line is not as consistent. I had some issues with it and went to the leader material and solved the problems. If u have trouble keeping the inline board hooked up on braid try using a loop and rubberband to hook it on.
  20. U da man dave! Couldn't get out of going to church and dinner at the kids. Tried to get the family to go for an afternoon trip to st joe but no takers. Oh well its a long season
  21. Well done Jim u should be able to get the Ho's for a couple of more weeks anyway.
  22. Nicely done Dave and a Brown to show for a small bit of effort.
