  1. When i talked to you at gold coast at their open house you were saying you would've liked to get somthing bigger. I see you went and did it, Nice rig Jim. see you out on the lake.
  2. nice job. finally have my boat ready and last traces of the flu. and then my sons first birthday is this sunday and we are off to the Fam in ohio to do the birthday. Oh well i wil finally get on the water next week for the first time this year.
  3. Eldean Shipyard in holland. http://www.eldean.com/ It is a very short ride to lake michigan from the marina. they have gas grills to cook on, nice swimming pool and hot tubs, fuel dock, ship store, restaurant, and a pizza place and a fish cleaning station. Bathrooms are clean with a bunch of showers. They have a parking garage with video cams. It is very clean and seems secure. I have never had a problem there. For my 23 ft it was 32 to 36 bucks a night i believe, but for the ammenities it is worth it. For launching there is a state park launch down and across the lake a little that is deep enough for your rig. they will tell you to use the yact club for free but they want 30 bucks in and 30 bucks out so don't waste your time in going there. Nice thing about the state launch is that a sticker for the whole season is reasonable. Only thing is mid afternoon all the idiots seem to be trying to launch and that can become a nightmare at times. Let me know when you are heading over. Aaron
  4. Supposedly from talking to the guys at the booth at the fishing show you can run it on a regular rod. I guess because it is rounder it doens't cut guides. I haven't tried it yet i was awaiting some reports on the stuff before i junk my wire that i have on already.
  5. thanks again for all the info. I may not be able to go now as i have come down with a nasty head cold. If i dont feel a litle better tomorrow i am headed for the doc and God i hope it isnt that flu going around. Otherwise if i am feeling half way ok i should be out there. Now i have to get antoer person or two to go. Nice to know about the fish cleaning station i will take my fillet knives with me.
  6. the cabelas one is made by pro mariner also. i had looked at those also. i found a minnkota 20 amp 2 bank at gander here in grandville and am probably going to stop by and pick it up tonight. thanks though. i have read some really good reviews on the minnkota and only one bad review.
  7. Thank you. We were thinking of trying down there sunday. i am stuck working saturday.
  8. how do you get to the boat launch in south haven Is it a state or city launch.
  9. i was kind of thinking of the min kota charger i have read some decent reviews on it but want to look at all options this time so i am not throwing money away. Does anyone know if min kota actually makes their own or is it made for them.
  10. I had a promariner 20 2 bank on my boat. It was one just over two years and quit working. I called promariner and was basically told tough luck buy another. well i started doing research adn found tons of complaint for the same problem work for a year or two and dies. So i am not going to buy another promariner. I have read a few good reviews on other companies out there and am tring to decide on a new system. What do some of you guys have for an onboard and how long have you had it. Also like and dislikes. I am thinking of another 20 amp size charger.
  11. Im jealous. I spent all wekkend even in the rain trying to get my boat ready. Hopefully i can get out sometimme next week.
  12. I know exactly what you mean. Get up at 3:30 get stuff ready hook up the boat then 4:30 5:30 6 am crawl back in bed and still never get a friggin phone call till two days later. needless to say i have never invited him again. I have also had the guy that wants to go never offers anything and wants a ton of fish . He hasn't been invited again either even though he begs to go back out. i dont expect something every time out but it is nice to offer.
  13. like everyone else this is a great site. There are two boards that i pretty much check as often as posible this one and scubaboard. Whats makes these two places great is the moderators. They have a heck of a job going through every post and trying to keep things to a civil level. I know as my close friend is a mod on scubaboard and i know what he does as soon as he walks in the door from work, and then again before bed. Even though there are disagreements here and on scubaboard they are kept to a civil low key discussion, as everyone has there own opinion on a topic. But it doesn't get reduced to the nasty name calling and personal attacks, and that is where people like you come in. people that tend to act that way tend to get discouraged quuickly and leave the site for another where they can get away with that behavior. I just want to say a big thanks to you and all the mods on this site.
  14. I lock everything in the cabin when i leave the marina i am at for a long period of time. a friend of my dads got ripped off once and that tought us all a lesson. As far as insurance you can take out a rider for your equipment with your boat insurance. Playing the homeowner game isn't worth it been there done that and never again. I know with state farm 10,000 worth of insurance covers everything for fishing, downriggers fishfinder marine radio tackle boxes and lures rods reels, etc.... It cost me about 7 bucks a month i believe. Every spring i turn in a list and pics of all my equipment and there is a record on file with them at all times that way. Now if you read the policy it says items mounted to the boat, but as it was explained to me downriggers and graphs and radios aren't counted unless they are factory installed and not removable from the boat.
  15. I have an 86 bayliner 23 foot cierra. Wife said when my truck is paid off i can order a new boat. I will be sitting at the sportcraft dealer signing on a 25 hard top the day my last payment goes to GM. Only 2 and a half years to go.
  16. Drill about 8 1/4 inch holes in the top and the moisture problem is cured. 4 in each end in the lid.
  17. I use a 3 dollar storage container from walmart. They have them in a hundred different sizes. The one i have i can store 8 dipsies and snubbers attached very easily.
  18. During the ludington tourney, saturday the fishing changed and they went deep. we were running 125 to 175 down on the riggers to get fish. our dihe puts it vers were 400 feet out mag size and the 300 copper was doing nothing. Our friend was running 450 with a 2 oz DB and 600 copper and was killing fish in the we put on the 4 ozs and the one rod the board never got fully out, and that was the start. i think a 300' with a 4 oz get real close to the hunderd feet they were hagning in. what i was told by a guy in ludington that runs these thing religiously is that on a 300 w a 2 oz will be running at a 450 depth and a 4 oz runs the 600 depth. Now the way he showed me is to clip on the mono line not the copper or coreabout 5 ft away from the copper. Now for planer boards i had four sets of church boards that i just sold on craigs list. They dont work for copper well. the yellow offshore works well for lighter rigs. The best hands down pulling 300 copper and 4 oz DB works GREAT, we also ran a 450 with a 4 oz with no problem
  19. Pulpfish the disclaimer is true on the back of the packages, and i have broke a few pulling wire divers. Thats why i got Big Jons for my divers for this season. glad you were able to find something that would work for you. Good Fishin. Aaron
  20. the ones Jim has will work. My Dad had them on his small boat. You do have to crank them tight to get them to hold with a mag dipsy. I tried the cheap route and now have two of the Big Jon heavy duty diver holders they are expensive but those two are going to be for dipsys. I am trying to convince the wife i need two more for when i am running 4 dipsys. my other six on the side of the boat are all tite locs with the spring pins and they work fine for boards. Mag dipsys break the tite locs about half way through a season. The teeth on the little disc thing break off and i watched one twist to the back of the boat and was able to catch it before it went into the lake. as far as turning them, i have never had to turn a rod holder so the straight up and donw is fine. If you dont spend the extra coin now on the holder for dipsys you will be spending more in the future to upgrade. use the cheaper ones for your board rods.
  21. i run 10 lb sharks and love em. I am about to order 2 15s for may back riggers for a deeper presentation with less blowback.
  22. thanks hit man. i really dont like that type of weight. I know that you can bend the fin and all. but i have had to many problems even with the fin bent to try them again and throw away money like the last ones i had. i know you can bend the fin on the sharks if you desire and am not sure about the atomics. i reall like my downriggers straight down with running all the side stuff. I had them get into a dipsy before and it sure wasn't a whole lot of fun. I got them from capt chucks when they were in the old building and supposed to be tuned and marked for each side. Just had bad luck with them.
  23. i called them Thursday and the guy on the phone said all they had was round finned 10 lbers. maybe he didn't know what he was looking for.
  24. I second what Maniac/jim said go to outdoorsman in jenison they will help you out. i deal with them for most everything, and they are 11 seconds from my house. Where are you located in grand rapids?
