  1. i may be down there this weekend. i just got layed off and was supposed to work this weekend. sorry for the hijak
  2. nice boat. about how long does it take to get to st joe from grand rapids area trailering a boat.
  3. Fantastic job!!!! now i really have to bust my but to get the boat ready.
  4. I just upgraded two side downriggers (walkers) to tournament motors like my back riggers. A lowrance hds 5 2010 combo unit with sirius weather. two tekota 600s for my wire divers.
  5. the cabelas brand is cortland line. you cant tell till you open it up then compare the packaging. It is good stuff used it for about 8 years and now use mostly copper.
  6. Well after a discussion with my dad and Jerry Lee from Lowrance we decided to bite the bullet. Now that the dust has settled as jerry stated things are starting to run more smoothly at Lowrance. He was saying that things are ok again with the customer service dept. There was a shake up and the problem was with people that didn't like change. I was also told the same story from bill and nate at outdoorsman. Also the 2010 units are supposed to be on better firmware. so we will see So anyways cabelas had a deal going get the fishfinder and the sirius weather and you get an instant 250.00 refund on the sirius package leaving it at a hundred dollar upgrade. I went with the hds5 2010 combo unit base map. I have all my charts from my last lowrance and they are all compatible so i couldn't see spending the extra for the charts when i had the already. So the fish finder will be here end of next week and the sirius weather package is on back order with a ship date of april 9th. Hopefully the problems are worked out like they said.
  7. You can buy the minis in glow. put them on your leader first then put on the fly body and they are deadly. we also use squids a lot for lakers bouncing bottom.
  8. go to like office max. get a industrial sharpie marker. i use these on my scuba diving gear so i know it will hold up on the copper with the stuff i am using it on. It has red lettering on the pen and industrial in a red box. if it isnt the industrial it will wear after a time. edit: there like 5 bucks for three at office max.
  9. model is a CP-CL-862M. if you tell them in the store you are looking for the copper leadcore rod they will know what you are talking about. okuma is only making the one at this time.
  10. I have been using albright knots at both ends og the mono. I am going to change to a uni to uni at the super braid to mono end and stay with the albright at the copper to mono end.
  11. as far as a rod okuma is making a copper rod that is about 40 bucks everywhere and is a great rod for the money. it has all stainless guides and a nice action when fighting a fish. I think they are a 8'6" rod. i have four on my boat right now and am happy with them.
  12. the main reason for adding mono isn't only to make the board easier to attach (which it does.). Any of your braids regardless of company don't show wear from putting it into a release. If you keep putting your board release in the same spot it will wear the braid and ultimatly end in a line failure. I can attest to this having it happen to me a few times. and seeing it on a couple other boats. Mono is a great shower of wear and tear and you can catch it and retie in a piece or if you add a long enough section like i do 30 ft. you just cut out the bad section and retie in 2 minutes your back to fishing and no lost gear. If you pay attention to the radio you will hear at least a couple time a year a guy saying he was trying to release a board and when trying to trip it with little pressure the line breaks at the board. if you ask them how they attach 9 times out of ten the reply is just to my super braid. I usually cut back and retie at least a couple times a year on my coppers where my boards attach.
  13. i will be there thur 5 - close fri 4 - close sat 6 - close sun 12 to breakdown. I volunteer for MUCC to get in my club hours for my shooting club for the year. Plus i get to shop for four days and get in for free. Stop by the booth and visit.
  14. Welcome aboard. remember one thing here. there is no dumb question about fishing. If it will you to enjoy the sport more ask. The guys on here are great and will take the time to answer unlike some of the other boards where you get bashed for asking a question.
  15. we use them alot as stackers also and they work well for that application.
  16. you can get a lowrance h2o handheld for about 140 at gander and then add the lake master sd card that gives you all the bathmetric lines for another 99 bucks. and have a pretty nice portable gps. then get your fish hawk.
  17. thanks everyone for the info. I'll let you know how they hold up after a couple trips to st joe.
  18. I picked up about a dozen and a half new spoons and that was about it this year.
  19. I bought a bunch of painted spoon blanks at the swap meet and picked up tape at gold coast. My question is when i go to tape them what do i do to make sure the tape sticks and stays on. I have never had luck taping a spoon and it staying for more than a couple trips.
  20. Pro king used to make a smaller spoon called a pro spoon adn that is what those are i have about 40 from my dad. We usually did good and still do good on the pro kings. I saw at the show last year that they were making them again.
  21. I got the bearings done today. the last one turned out to be a pita. i pulled the grease cover and pulled the nut and pieces of the bearing fell out. It shattered. the back bearing was missing two roller and i found them all chewed up. so i ran around town and finally stopped at an auto zone. the girl that was working was able to get me new timken bearing/race kits. got home and the one race was two small. so back again and fianlly got the right one. finished it up at 8 pm sharp. Now i have to drain and refill the outdrive. that tomorrows job. and hopefully tuesday i will be putting on the new transducer for my fish finder. I am making the best of the nice days before the spring rain starts.
  22. Went for a ride out to gold coast to pick up a few things and decided to check out the launch. there was no ice at all and three trailers. went around to the lake shore and standing on beach we watched one guy on a small boat fighting a fish. couldnt see any ice for as far as the eye could see. I am so ready to get out fishing.
  23. just tried it on a couple different reels i have here with different lines and WAY COOL. i could actually squeeze a little more on and would have been able to see this before assembly and cutting. thanks
  24. Yep its www.gloworks.com or : http://www.gloworks.com/pdshop/shop/category.asp?catid=32 the price has gone up some. i have been getting the ones that are 12.50 a bag of 50 in the blue color. they are now 25 cents a piece and i dont see the hundrend count price break they used to have. I have flags on all my planer boards the offshore flags. I have also taken the churchs flags and drilled an extra hole in them to use on my offshore boards. their like 3 or 4 bucks at gander. then i zip tie the glow stick to the upright on hte flag and man are they visible. I have to order more this year and evan at 25 cents a piece it is worth the ease of finding my boards in the dark. One more note dont go with 6 inch they are WAY TO HEAVY. another item i have been looking at trying are these. i have to get a couple and figure out how to adhere them to the boards. they are called a submersible floralytes. they are used in glass vaese to light the water in different colors. their cheap and look like you can replace the batteries. these are cheap like 2 to 3 bucks a piece if bought by a ten pack most places i have found on the web: http://www.wholesaleflowersandsupplies.com/store/p/769-Submersible-Floralytes.html?feed=Froogle http://www.afloral.com/Floral-Supplies/Candles-and-Accessories/Submersible-Floralytes-10-box-BLUE;jsessionid=0a010b441f43d65199661d774931837aafc84ab4348a.e3eSbNyQc3mLe34Pa38Ta38Lchb0 http://www.afloral.com/Floral-Supplies/Candles-and-Accessories?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=battery_candles&utm_campaign=battery_operated_candles_001 i saw these on another fishing web site that a guy was going to try out.
