  1. I used the lead and non lead last year. They were vitually the same in all aspects. Good product, I bought more to replace the line in the future.
  2. Got the boat out today and took a shakedown cruise. Lots of postive things happend. The new downrigger board looked and worked well, the battery was charged, the motor started, the boat stayed afloat,.... but nothing shaken the lines. We were out from 1-5pm, no action anywhere. The guys fishing for perch said they weren't biting fast and furious either. Wind kicked up a good chop but nothing too serious. Now all we need is some nice steady weather and the fish will be jumping in the boat. Keep it safe guys.
  3. Don't go with low quality hooks and line, it will come back to bite you. Flouro or at least 40# Ande works well and I love my owner hooks. I've used tubing as well as heads for the flies, both worked well- tubing is a little easier to work with. I used head cement instead of nail polish. I also like the flashabou and some banded mylar. Flashabou...................................$4.00 Pack of hooks .............................$6.00 Tying vise...................................$25.00 Catching a fish on a fly you tied..... PRICELESS
  4. Give it time. I fish out of Grand Haven and we don't usually get much of anything until mid- May. You can try fishing the shallows with long leads and run a few boards with rapalas or thin fish. Also, find the warmer water with baitfish. They need to eat so they should be close. We usually fish the river mouth in G.H. on the early cruises. Don't forget structure, it always important. The kings should be around in a couple weeks. I'm hoping to do a shakedown run this weekend if the lightning holds off. Hope that helps. Good Luck. Bob
  5. Welcome Joel, you're gonna like it here.
  6. Here is a calculator for filling reels. One of the guys on the site was nice enough to share. I like to run my copper off boards so I have mine on a 9.5 ft rod mh. I think it's personal preference when it comes to rods. I run Fireline in my board releases, but don't usually have a problem with it coming out. Keating uses a rubber band wrpped around the release. I have used it a couple of times with good success. I'm sure others will have other ideas for you.
  7. Just watch part 1 of video- everything worked just fine. Just hit play, no waiting. Picture and sound were very good. I like it. Are you going to place the other speakers from the seminar? This is why GLF is the best site on the net. Thanks for doing this Mike.
  8. I have a half core on a convector 30 and a full on a 45. Both work just fine and like the other guys said these have a better retrieve ratios than the 209's.
  9. Fishusa.com has 8' rod, basspro.com has a 7' leadcore rod, marinegeneralcatalog.com has 7,8,9' leadcore rods. All of these say they are the ones with stainless steel guides. As far as a store front you might try cabelas or basspro if they are close. If not try a local bait shop. They sometimes have the gear you're looking for. Hope that helps.
  10. It's a great idea Mike. I agree with Tony, I like the 30 min videos. That way if you're short on time you don't have to watch the first half again, unless you want too of course.
  11. Welcome to the site. I think you're gonna like it here.
  12. Woo Hoooooooo! Winner winner chicken dinner!!! Thanks Steve!!!!
  13. Thanks for the report. Here a link with directions on how to upload your pictures.
  14. Welcome to the site. You'll find lots of great ideas for this bunch. The Magda spooled with 20lb should be fine for Kings. I run a couple myself with 20lb big game. As far as presentation, I'll let some from your area give more precise details, but I would add something to your setup. Leadcore and inline boards. May be two setups to start, 5 and 7 colors. These have been working well for me. Just an opinion. Good Luck!
  15. Welcome Jason. What port do you fish?
  16. Welcome to the site. Great group of fisherman with a ton of knowledge and experience.
  17. Here's a couple more ideas- crimson ride, salmon seeker, fish tales, hot rods, or little red 1
  18. Hold the phone, Read the editors comments- ESPNOutdoors.com inadvertently contributed to a flare-up Tuesday when we posted the latest article in a series of stories on President Barack Obama's newly created Ocean Policy Task Force, a column written by Robert Montgomery, a conservation writer for BASS since 1985. Regrettably, we made several errors in the editing and presentation of this installment. Though our series has included numerous news stories on the topic, this was not one of them -- it was an opinion piece, and should have been clearly labeled as commentary. And while our series overall has examined several sides of the topic, this particular column was not properly balanced and failed to represent contrary points of view. We have reached out to people on every side of the issue and reported their points of view -- if they chose to respond -- throughout the series, but failed to do so in this specific column. This series started in October and has included several updates on how the creation of the task force and its actions could impact recreational anglers. ESPNOutdoors.com should have made it clear to all readers that this was part of a larger series, and -- even though this was Montgomery's opinion, and those of the sources quoted in the column -- we should have taken more care to fairly represent opposing arguments. We do feel it is our duty to cover issues surrounding outdoor sports to the best of our abilities, and given the nature of this task force and the potential impact on all fisherman, this was an appropriate topic to address for our audience. We take seriously the tenets of journalism that require we take an unbiased approach, and when we make mistakes in the presentation of a story or a column, it is our responsibility to admit them. Any confusion on that part rests entirely on my shoulders as the executive editor of this site. We have appended the original column to note that it was in fact a commentary, and we will institute more rigorous editing safeguards in order to prevent such issues in the future.
  19. Congratulations! Quite an achievement in today society. Here’s to another 20
