  1. well i put the boat to bed today, hence the sad part of the title. while winterizeing i was thinking about how this motor runs good but still has a shake or vibration or excess shimy however you want to put wich drives me crazy. this boat is a 72 reinell with a 165 horse straight 6 mercruiser. thinking about maybe doing some cosmetic and structual work on it this winter and if i end up pulling the motor any one know what a rebuild on this would cost or should i run it til it dies or repower ??? my plan is to get a biger boat and slip it on the biglake and only use this boat here in the bay so it would not get that much use. any thoughts ??
  2. thanks for the report i was wondering about a trip over that way. I trust you meant today and not 7/13
  3. it was the MS HAMBURG anchored in GT BAY . According to the paper and the coast guard - it is a german based passenger ship that left montreal on sept 24th now returning to her home port with stops at mack island and kingston on the way. It was these german based ships that first started comeing into the bay several years ago. At times they would run tenders to shore for shopping trips.
  4. I agree sell them at your own garage sale they are useless for salmon fishing.
  5. monday morn is when we saw the most cought mon pm we had action i consider it slow and was at the weir yesterday i dont call that full at all. the pens could hold many more and i have saw many more down below than there is now just my opinion but i have saw lots more fish down there at this time of year.
  6. slow fishing is the word from traverse city. spent lots of time on west bay the last couple days. all the other boats were haveing the same or less success mon am -saw a couple cought at daybreak in the hole we toughed it out til 11 then got a king as we pulled lines 50 down rigger pearl dodger green squid. mon pm-not a hit for anyone until last half hour. we went 2/2 one glow plug on rigger other glow green hooch and squid braid diver 100 back. tue am not a hit til 8;45 lost one that got in a rigger cable hit a red meat rig (only meat hit of the trip) behind a silver echip 110 back on the diver. went to frankfort for lunch to rough over there so back to tc for the only skunk of the trip on tue pm. wend am -started not marking much and no hits with nobody else hooking up,surface temp was the same 61 but figured the nonstop south wind blew some warm water out so ran a homemade glo plug at 25 on a rigger for one king then 1/2 on green splater back plug at 20 ft on a rigger all around 8am trolled to 11 no other hits. called it a day and maybe a season. .
  7. yes they are bringing a 16 ft i have been there when they had not started dredgeing yet when it would be tough to get a 16 ft in. when much younger i used to pull our boats up the river with the motor off and tilted all the way up. too old for that!
  8. hey guys i have 2 guys driving up from ohio on sunday afternoon. if any gets out on sat or sun or even mon morn could you post how you do ?good, bad or avg. also anyone know if the mouth of the platte is dredged ? thanks i will post how we do even if we stay in tc.
  9. simmer down people, no drugs or drink involved ? he wants to get his people in and on the way asap . yep probably if it was your tiara on the rocks you would say yep should have done something different. make it a learning thing and dont kick him any more while he is down. i cant take any more of this story that has nothing to do with catching fish good luck and god bless all
  10. went over on a non fishing trip yesterday very slow. most boats had one that was cought right around 6 am then nothing. no one fishing the harbor though and some guys who got 2 out deep dropped lines on way in after seeing lots of marks in the harbor. they had 3 hits that they could not stick and then had to get home.fishing here in tc about the same best i have heard is 3 tourny this weekend.
  11. justin how was the fishing overall ? i looked for results of the frenzie but they are not online yet.
  12. probably dealing with a couple things here. first any legaly set net -by whomever must be totaly properly marked and it is illegal to tamper with such. the coast gard and dnr i think ? tried to get a lot of nets that were for lack of better term on the loose. this was after the guy who set them went to prison. from what i heard most of those were around the ludington area. would make me nervous to do it in my boat but as i refer to above we went right into a tribal marina last year( friend boat who does not fish but wanted to eat a couple) and the net was right across the entrance went right over dont know how far it was from the surface but we were only in about 25-30 FOW. we have no choice to live with it ? but i sure dont like it.
  13. years ago it was 2 per person then 3 for great lakes trolling and is now 3 for all types of fishing.
  14. glad you made out as good as possible. another post on here about unmarked nets out of whitehall. i dont care what anyone says we need this kind of stuff to stop, and no more excuses by the tribe, non tribal comm. fisherman or the dnr. it our license money planting the fish they are catching-and yes dont tell me about whitefish and the fed planted laketrout i will take you 15 miles from where i live and show you salmon in the nets.
  15. thanks heaterman now they will raise the price and sell out, the cats out of the bag. i have only used the rigger rods and yes i love them.
  16. i have to say the reverse is true for me. i have never saw a big boat with gimbal mounted riggers. i agree with ryan put them on tracks! riggers are way too expensive to take a chance with. what i dont understand is why all the folks that use the boat for fishing and playing need to have no trace of fishing stuff on it when doing the other things.if i take someone out for a cruise and they are turned off by the fishing "stuff" they dont need to come back. i can see if some stuff gets in the way but everything ? as far as the weather if it cant take the weather the company president needs to be beat over the head with it !
  17. there own site will sell them if nothing else, sorry dont know right off hand google it.
  18. awesome job the plan paid off !! gotta love that, glad you spoke of the flasher meat rig result, i dont buy the best thing ever some guys talk with them.
  19. just google ludington fishing report you will get freestyle and two other charter reports. freestyle and one of them update often. one changes the date daily but leaves the same report on. sorry i dont remember wich one of the latter two is wich. i hear slow going and ice water at manistee. probably the same for ludington unless we get some south wind, and i have not heard the latest on that. calling for a good chance of boomers around tc tmw.
  20. hey guys i was wondering if this is only michigan law but the handbook i have states the following: red and green sidelights an all-round white light or both a masthead light and sternlight. these lights must be higher than the sidelights. they then show pics that look like the only way to be legal is you need the white light high enough that it could not be covered by a cooler on the swim platform. Ihad been thinking about this because my boat only has a white light on the stern where it could be covered up by a cooler ( no swim platform) . looks like to be legal i need to add a second white light. what do you guys think ? the most recent book i have is 2011 handbook of boating laws published by mi dnr.
