  1. We have done really well around Holland in 30-35fow the last 2 weekends. 7' bluegill rod, 3/4 oz sinker must barely sitting on bottom with minnows. 37 in our first hour a week ago and 66 in about 90 minutes this past weekend.
  2. Pulpfishin-you run them 4-6feet behind the spin doctor? If the spinnie already has a rotating swivel do you recommend still using the bead chain? Thanks for the other responses guys! I will be using them in pentwater this weekend and post how I do.
  3. I bought 4 of these thinking I might need to add some stink to my spread of lures. I couldn't quite break down and spend the $18 for a single Big Weenie meat rid (not yet at least). Anyone use these Brad's cut plugs? Seems I've seen them mentioned but I wanted some first hand input on using them, what kind of fish you put in them, how you rig them, and running them in the spread. Any info would be helpful. Heading to Pentwater for a 5 day weekend over Labor day and want to get into some fish any way it takes.
  4. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/5/0/8/0/2013-08-24_16-52-10_906.jpg' alt='2013-08-24_16-52-10_906.jpg'> Here are my kiddos sporting part of the catch. Ethan is 4, Gavin is 6, Paige is 2. They are naturals on that boat.
  5. Launched around 10:00 with my wife and kids armed for perch and salmon. Looped the pier head twice with nothing (caught 4 last week doing that). Started to run south in search of yellow-bellies in 30-35 and had a couple marks on the graph so we decided to drop there. Turned out that after an hour, having a break for lunch due to 3 out of 4 perch rods disabled (Thanks kids and anchor) then another 20 minutes we ended with 66 perch. Nobody around us for at least 1/2 mile fishing. Then proceded to head out to 90 and within 10 minutes had a rigger rod bouncing, wouldn't release so I reeled it up while my 6 year old reeled the rod, after I released it I realized we had a hoggish fish on but wouldn't fight much. Turned out to be just over a 15lb laker on a big white paddle/fly 75 down on a 1 core SWR. Had another slight dragging fight on a 300 cu with bloody nose chrome j-plug but then that was it. Cleaned fish and my wife skinned part of the time in just over 90 minutes. Great day with the kiddos though! Hoping to get pictures up quickly.
  6. I will be heading out late Saturday morning on a family perch/salmon trip as well. Probably be taking out when you guys are all launching at 4 or 5:00
  7. Spoons with spots have been producing for me. 5 of 6 salmon last weekend came on stuff with spots. Lots of your flashers/spoons have spots too. Not sure if it makes a difference but it seems to be a pattern.
  8. Awesome! That second one looks to be colored up or is it just the light?
  9. Can't wait to be up there Labor day weekend!! 4 day vacation and fishing here we come! Might have to take a few more days off work if it all goes well! If you're up there around Wednesday through SUnday of labor day weekend I'd be happy to hook up on cell or radio!
  10. Even though not much size great eaters right there!! Nice work! I'd take that any day.
  11. Dropped in front of the channel at about 10am Sunday morning and boated a 6lb coho within 30seconds and a 3lb king about 2 minutes later. Too much boat traffic so headed NW to where I was Friday and got a 7lb king on a 5 color. All spoons. Went to port Sheldon and boated 40 perch. Not a bad day with my parents and my kids who are 6, 4, and 2. The older boys loved those smaller salmon and the perch.
  12. I don't know if you guys run your spoons right out of the package or sharpen them but here is my $.02 on the situation..... I don't care who manufactures the hook/spoons it comes on, sharpen it! My catch ratio in 2013 is 13 for 14. NOt a bunch of hook ups for us this summer which is a bummer, but these fish haven't came un buttoned. I've lost 2 due to break offs, but not coming un-done. The one I did lose on a dipsey we discovered when the fly came up the treble was a tangled up so I think he had the single front hook and just spit it. Hasn't mattered on riggers, free sliders, lead, copper, dipseys so far this year. The fish hit and stay. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself, but grab a 6 pack (or 12 if you have a bunch of spoons) and sit in the boat and sharpen every one of them!!
  13. Went 3-3 tonight. Took off out of holland on a north west heading. started marking fish consistently in 44fow down 35 so we set up. Got 3 riggers down, put out the 5 color and as I was hooking on the board a fish grabbed the 5 color. About a 7 lb coho. drove around for awhile marking fish consistently in the 50's but no other takers. On the way in hit 2 small kings in 30fow just inside the dark water. One on a free slider nuke mixed veggie and another on a 3 color incinerator orange. Best part is both my boys 6 and 4 years old got to reel in fish. HOpefully heading out again this weekend with the boys and my dad. Good luck out there!! Don't over run fish early. It is my theory they will be shallow to start the morning so don't over look it. Maybe I'm wrong, but imagine if I was right. We marked quite a few pockets of fish on the north side of the pier heads in 30-35fow.
  14. Great idea!! Never thought of doing that. I love learning something new
  15. Will be out a little later this afternoon working the shallows as I have my wife and 3kids aboard
  16. Thanks a bunch! Taking my wife and kids out tonight in Holland.
  17. Lol klode ....sounds like me last year. My preferred rig....3 dr, 2 dipsey, 2 copper, 2 core. Get away from the boat. I recently purchased some Okuma Catalina reels for dipseys and LOVE them!
  18. Agreed BK. I have been told the same thing many times. Still trying to figure it all out but little info here and there from the guys that catch fish is extremely handy.
  19. Friday and Saturday in the 120's and 130's was the only place I could get fish to bite.
