Holland am, 9-21
littleboat replied to littleboat's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
I had the same problem earlier this month with meat. I guess it's all in the timing. They said the meat rig was bit pretty quick. It was a very nice looking steelhead. -
Holland am, 9-21 1/1 with a 4# laketrout taken on 270 cu with Green RV-1 Flounder Pounder, in 129 fow at 10:16 am, 2.8 sog, north troll. I must have had the fish on for awhile. When I brought the line in, it got stuck in the eyelet when the copper started to separate and unraveI. I cut away the bad parts, rejoined the line and brought the fish in. My swivel must not have been rotating. No other releases. Very bouncy 3-4 ft rollers not the 1ft forecast. Another boat out there caught a 12# steelhead in 145 fow on green meat rig down 100ft on a rigger. I was lucky enough to weigh it while I was waiting to clean my fish. They were fishing friends of mine. I guess I need to buy some more meat?

Holland 8-12pm, 9-14-17 I thought I would go deeper today to see if the bite might improve. Fished 180-260, but mostly 245-260. Results: 1/1 3.96# laketrout on flounder pounder green RV-1 on DR down 102 bk 35, se troll, 2.3 sog, ball temp 45 in 237 fow at 8:44 am. Nothing after that. Attached a few screen pics to show you what was out there. Alot of fish hanging at 50 degree mark. Ran all spoons from thermocline to 250 down. Hope the bite improves!

An 8 lb. coho is still pretty good in rough seas. Thanks for the report. -

Unless it is calm, I tend to add a foot to the bouy reading. Once I'm out there it seems to be pretty close to what the conditions really are in most cases. -
PORT SHELDON 8:30-12 I didn't think I was going out today because of last night rain predicted for Monday. When I woke up at 7:30 looked at the bouy cam and rain that didn't happen. I moved as quick as I could to finally get my three lines in the water by 8:30. 8:34 am bang 18.17# king (male) in 142 fow on rigger 132 down, with a yellow speckled dick meat rig, nw troll, ball temp 50.6. Went 1 for 4 after that, last hit took my NBK green paddle, green menace fly and slider when the line broke while I was reeling him in. Ouch ($20)! Still great to get out.

Good report and catch. Normally I don't go out on a weekend, but they were saying a storm was possible Monday. Boat traffic was terrible. I could barely make a turn. Got shoved out to 190-212 where I picked off a couple of small cohos (5#) and called it a day after a couple of hours. Both were on spoons off DRs as sliders. XG Ghost buster and Smurf on them, N troll, 2.6. Now I remembered why I fish during the week. -

My ball temps varied with my location, depth and current. Last time out there was a 50 temp that ran from 84-95 feet down, but I was more off holland than PS. I use PS bouy as a guide only, but in general they are close. Current was a big factor in my ball temp this last time. It only took a few feet difference to get substantial changes in reading. I'll check near the bouy when I'm nearby there next time. If you have a Fishawk TD you can tie it to a weight on a fishing pole and drop it down to the bottom and get temp and depth every 5ft no matter where your at. Their good to 300ft. -
