  2. update

we just got in a big shipment of whole herring

    red green blue

also big shipment of the balley hoo or premium (same thing)

this is a 2013 harvested product not left over from last year

also a bunch of the std trolling strips (real herring)

the whole is for in store pick up only

the strips are shipped two day express mail Monday to Thursdays

    I have a question ?

normally the cases od strips are 36 per case would most guys prefer a 24 in a case ?

we are still trying to figure out a good pricing structure to beat the stand alone bait shop prices

    please share your thought

we are not happy until you are

  3. If you go with a external antenna, do not buy a Lowrance, very unreliable. You can go with any NMEA antenna like Garmin, Maretron, Raymarine, ect. As long as its NMEA it will network.

As far as a new one, what kind of budget or screen size are you looking at?

    just to clarify

the Lowrance gps receiver itself is very unreliable not nessesarily the lowrance unit itself

if its a NMEA 2000 unit you can use other manufacturers gps receivers

I have received a couple calls about this and wanted to post to claify

and thank you the guys who called for pricing remember to check our on line store for quarterly specials and sales

great source for accurate up to date information on just about any thing to do with marine electronics

Calumet Marines Eau Claire location has not been working out as a service center

for now at least we have modified it to be a boat storage and drop off center

There is a pick up and drop off charge for service that is being done in our Chicago location It was just too hard to maintain or quality level with out ALL our tools and equipment on site

eventually our goal is to close down the Chicago location and at that point move all our needed service equipment to the Michigan location. This will allow us to maintain the highest level of standards our customer have come to expect from calumet marine

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ryan (hondam) for helping out with these technical question his passion for fishing boating has driven his knowledge of technical aspects of our sport to levels that far exceed the above average marine mechanic and electronics installers

not only do we miss Ryans Mechanical/electronics skills @ the store here

THE FISH ON LAKE MICHIGAN ARE CATCHING A HUGE BREAK !!!

  8. if you can clean a salmon you can cut up herring

whole is cheaper but a lot more work

you can chop it up and use it with out brining if you use it the same day brining just preserves and stiffens it up a bit for use

strips are just a convenience they are already brined much easier to ship don't have to stay frozen if packed in salt

just start rite behind the gill plate filet one side off the herring down the backbone

chop the head off and you have two strips "A" side still has the tail on it "B" side is just a strip the large blue label herring you can get two strips from each side of the herring

    check out this video

  9. Lake Erie alive and well out of oak harbor Ohio

Terry's hard work on His Hewes Craft walleye killing machine pays off with e real wall hanger ounces from the state record

    Quote;

Here is Roger Hanson, from Swanton, OH with a "fish of a lifetime", caught today on Lake Erie. Roger's Walleye weighed 11lbs-4 oz X 32" long, and is headed for a wall in Roger's house. Currently the "beast" is residing in my freezer awaiting the taxidermist. Had this larger female been still with eggs she would have weighed well over 14lbs (exceeding many state record's). Good job Roger :o)

Its all about the fun here at calumet marine !!

some time I don't know if helping a customer put together a boat to exceed their expectations is as much fun as having to see them using it to the fullest of its potential

    THANK YOU TERRY

for sending us these pictures and reports

its one of the most gratifying parts for me and all the guys here at the shop to see our hard work in action

  10. If accidents can happen on a clear day light on a nice summer day what's possible in the fog?

big ships are nothing to mess with fog just makes it worse

    check out this actual video

YES THERE ARE 40 PEOPLE IN THE TOUR BOAT DEAD IN THE WATER

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPagP7vP9D0

fog usually happens on nice sunny days when the wind dies down and the water is cold !

a fog bank can develop and you get stuck in it and you can hear other boats around you but can not see the bow rail

    what you going to do

    sound the horn

    put up you radar deflector

    and most of all

STAY OUT OF THE SHIPPING LANES

RADAR IS MORE AND MORE AFFORDABLE EVERYDAY IT MIGHT BE TIME TO MAKE THAT INVESTMENT

  12. the two tough jobs in mounting a kicker is getting as close to center line of the boat as possible and clearing the water while up on plane with the main motor

you don't need a lot of power to troll 3 mph and the fuel you save is minimal compared to the saving of wear and tear on the main engines

the hp is needed to steer the boat most cases to move the stern of the boat sideways needs power to steer more than make trolling speeds

you can help a lot by off setting rudders out drive or motors twards the kicker to help the steering but best to mount kickers as close to the keel of boat as possible

there is no such thing as too big a alternator on a kicker any thing less than ten amp these days is just not enough

but be cautious looking at alternator spec. true alternator out put is not the charging capacity and also look at the rpm the specs are rated @ some rate their out put at or near full throttle that's a unrealistic number for a guy that trolls with his motor

true charging out put is at trolling speed and will differ from boat to boat and alt out put minus what power is used to keep the motor running = true charging capacity

how a kicker motor is mounted on a transom has every thing to do with how happy and usable a kicker is on any boat

  13. all the ballyhoo and green label whole is sold out

no more cases of king strips loose tubs only

only cases of strips we have left are the std. thin herring and these are going fast

we have a few red label and about 100 trays of blue left

free tub of "B" grade with purchase of brads cut bait plugs.

killer bee claims they should be shipping fresh new harvest by first part of June

but we will have to wait and see

  14. Frank , Just curious if the heater has a enclosed combustion area for the flame as I know the Coast Guard would frown on the use of anything with a open flame.

yes closed combustion and isolated intake

to prevent any gas fumes being drawn in from the bilge

after install we go over all components with a laser thermal gun to make sure heat is where it is supposed to be and more important NOT where you don't want it

these units are approved and commonly installed on larger boats but also rvs and over the road simi truck sleepers usually associated with diesel power

    they will burn diesel

but when installing them on any thing using gasoline extra precautions must be stickily followed

although out board powered boat as this one is are much safer and less likely to have any gasoline vapors in the bilge itself

  15. I am going to have to buy a couple tx 44s and make some of those pins a well if its only a little longer

I made a jig to make the pins myself, with the jig its fast, if its just a little longer it will be a minor change

the first couple dozen pins I made years ago I spent some time getting rite

Myself I much prefer the reg. size boards its just a lot easier to see if you have a fish on the std size

has any one with the 44s had the same problem ?
