  1. I have heard the samething from multiple people. This should help the bait fish and alewives!
  2. Would recommend getting a good digital antenna if you go with a new one.
  3. Welcome aboard! The Kalmazoo river has good small mouth fishing from what I have heard but I was always chasing other fish. In the fall the white fish also run and can be caught from the piers on spawn or small baits. I tried it last year for the first time and even landed a few and would recommend giving it a try.
  4. I run 300 and 250 in 45lb and 150 and 250 in 32lb. My best one is a 300 copper in Morgan's and a 250 32lb blood run.
  5. Most of my experience with fish I turned in have been 60% close to plant site and capture site 30% long distances from planing site. The last 10% were unrecoverable and yes the free lures are always nice. The best kind are the lake trout with the catch and release survival rate study with the phone number on the tag where you can call in and get the ten bucks. I hear some walleye are out there with the radio tag have up to $100 reward but haven't landed any yet to verify.
  6. I read this article by captian Dan and can say I lived throught this when I fished Lake Huron before moving to the west side. I have seen simalar patterns happening in Lake Mi. I hope the DNR cuts on salmon are in time but it really worries me most alewife in the lake are only two years old and not mature with a over population of salmon. http://www.saginawbay.com/appiesboard/viewtopic.php?t=10693
  7. I am looking for information on a new fish finder in the $2000 dollar range or under. I think the hummingbird is probably the best option, they can be linked with the cannon downriggers. Trying to come up with a few pros and cons and other considerations. Thank You for you time!
  8. I keep my flares in a gallon zip lock bag so they stay dry and have air to float. If expire flares are always kept dry they should still work as backup.
  9. Mt dew 8 inch spin doctor or 11 inch paddle with white pearl are my two favorites.
  10. Flounder pounder and Mongolian beef are both good on the riggers. The old style double trouble was probably my favorite bait if you only glowed the right side. It was always on fire from morning to dark.
  11. I think you right as well. I still find my odd baits catch fish. I have had many people tell me that won't work and yet it's the hot bait for the trip.
  12. Yesterday I started working on getting the boat ready for this season, so it will be a while before its ready anyway.
  13. Yeah I looked at those before. kind of cool but they only go to 65ft. Also really expensive if you lose one from snagging up in the rocks and it didn't float up.
  14. I have never fished Muskegon lake for them. However I do have some experience fishing walleye through the ice. I would start with a few lures that dart and a few that flutter. Everyone has there own favorite bait but I like rapalas and Swedish pimples. Cleo's and small spoons also work. Lead head jigs and a minnow can work great as well for a really cheap start. Here is a list of some of my top baits. 1. Blue and chrome rapala. 2. Clown rapala 3. Purple and yellow moonshine 4. Pink and chrome Swedish pimple
  15. I have a cooler like the one from Sam's it works good. Only complain was the hinges but I replaced them with the stainless for ten bucks.
  16. Some of my hot spoons were silver streak dolphins, mixed veggies, lemon berry and panty ho. Stinger spoons were NBK and mixed veggies. Moonshines spoons were old style double trouble and another one ??? can't think of the name. Northport Nailers in green and white. To many combos to list on flashers and flies but white flashers and green or blue files were good.
  17. We got stop about two or three years ago and complained about the same issue. They gave us a paper and said just to hold it up if they want to do another inspection in the same year. Not sure if they still do this or not as I haven't been checked again in the last couple years.
  18. Fished Linwood Saturday afternoon with my dad. Started in 20 fow after about a hour of fishing only had one to show for our time so we decided to move in a little closer. We moved in to 19.5 fow and started marking a lot of fish. After a bait change to a glow perch rapala it was non stop action until dark. I ended up with nine fish landed and releasing all but two. I lost a fair amount as well in including a hog. My dad landed ten eyes releasing five and keeping five. Be carefull if you do go the pressure cracks have been very bad and active this year, including many refreeze areas. Sorry for the late report.
  19. Thank you for the update on ice conditions I will plan on going next weekend and will post a report then.
  20. How is the ice and cracks on the east side? I talked to a guy who said you can only get .5 mile out of linwood after the wind earlier in the week. We did really good last weekend about 4 miles out. I normally fish the west side when the ice is good but will fish the east side if that's the only place to get out.
