  1. Posting Report for Twill23 and some others today. We had 23 for 33 give or take. Mix of Kings and Coho's. There was two pods of fish one in about 120 to 130 and one out deeper in 170 or so. Wire Divers were good about 140 back. Riggers down about 85 and 90 with green paddle and green flies. The spoons we used were mixed veggies, orange and silver, and the silver pink panties.
  2. Good job! thanks for the report. I will try and go Sunday afternoon.
  3. I would suggest copper if you get any more rods and a good reel for it. I would recommend the Okuma Convertor CV55L or Clarion. Then add a dive bomb if you need to go deeper like said above.
  4. Me and a buddy fished today and went 10 for 12 Fish came deep 180 to 210 FOW and 70 to 130 down. yellow, green, white were the hot colors.
  5. Thanks for a great site Mike!
  6. I agree 100% with TJ, everything he said I have seen as well and know many others who would agree. I have spent most of my time fishing out of Rockport and continue to fish there every year. The fishing changed big time over the past 10 years and I would hate to see this happen to Lake Michigan. I think its a great idea to cut the Salmon plant. If we wipe out all the bait fish and then the Salmon have nothing to eat, they will not adjust well to eating other things, resulting in starvation. Other fish like trout and walleye will adjust but not salmon. However I am not sure if Salmon will eat Asian carp or not, but I hope so if they get in the lake. If someone can find documented information of Salmon eating carp please let me know. Thank you
  7. I fished there Friday and think the water level was down a little from last year with the mild winter and lack of ice cover. The lack of ice cover results in move evaporating over the winter. A small channel comes into the dock but its very narrow. Its also very shallow off the cattails I try and stay closer to the other side with the houses.
  8. Northwood's is awesome on there prices. I like the offshore planner boards better than the Church planner boards unless your Fishing Coho and running close to the boards. The Coho like the reddish orange color for some reason better than the yellow boards. You guys might want to check out Franks Great Outdoors as well its just down the road and as they have good prices to. I the last few years I have been getting my Salmon gear on the east side and watch deals over there. I was getting my spoons from a few smaller bait shops for about a buck a piece this included Silver Streaks including the hard to find ones that are a few years old. I think it will end soon as the Salmon fish was much better on the east side last year than it has been for the past several years.
  9. Did well on 300' of the 45lb out of Holland last summer and would recommend Blood Run over the other brands. A first time might want to use 32lb as its a little easier to deal with on tiring knots and at 32lb sinks about 10' feet down for every 50'. If you fish near a lot of other boats 45lb sinks quicker and you can run closer to the boat.
  10. The river has been mostly free of ice along with the bay. The ice on the bay is not very good and would not recommend going out on it. The river has been kind of slow as most of the fish have not moved in yet. They are getting a few smaller fish however. I would recommend checking this site out. http://www.saginawbay.com/appiesboard/index.php
  11. I think more people will be fishing the tournament in the future as the fishing has got better over the last two years from what it was for a while after the alewife collapse. I think it needs some advertising to help out but, I don't think we will ever see it like it was years ago. Doug a warm welcome as well do you fish out of Alpena or Rock Port?
  12. I have run similar flasher in front of spoons on my riggers and caught Salmon and Lakers but not that exact flasher. I think it will work and plan on getting a couple.
  13. Walranger5 I agree with you about people taking to many big fish but don't agree with a slot limit on them. I agree that all fish have predators and the muzzles in lake Huron cased the collapse of alewife which lead to more walleyes. My question is we have all these little walleyes from record years reproducing in lake Huron. I would think these small walleyes would also be capable of eating a small size Asian Carp if they like them? I Catch Her Here is some info to read. http://www.wwmt.com/articles/carp-1401110-detroit-ambassador.html
  14. I think a slot limit on walleyes would have little effect on the Asian Carp. I don't agree with putting a slot limit on walleye but rather close the season a little longer than it currently is. I have fished the Titt river in the spring and seen stringers of five walleyes ranging 10 to 15 pounds from way to many people over the years. They are very easy to catch in the spring I feel and should be protected longer. Once a walleye gets over 24 inches they don't taste all that good anyway so a lot of people let them go anyway. I feel the Walleye pollution is growing in lake Huron. Last year we picked up several well salmon and lake trout fishing even at 65 feet down. I have done well the last several years on Saginaw Bay ice fishing and feel the walleye population is growing. I always get at least one really nice Walleye 10lb plus every year on the bay and let it go. I know there are trophy walleye in the lake you just have to put in some time to get one. I hope we can figure out something to help control the Asian Carp as I feel its a matter of time before we see them and think they are here already. There have been trucks full of live Asian Carp stop at the Ambassador bridge already. Whats not to say a truck load has been dropped off already?
