  1. I have tried plastic spoons in the past but didn't have any luck with them. I don't remember the brand or manufacturer, but believe there different. I might have had my program setup wrong or the fish weren't biting when I tried them.
  2. Anyone going to fish the new tournment? Ten bucks for a chance at 5 grand sounds good to me. Anyone know if you can weight in for this and the shiver on the river? As they do overlap for 13 days? Hearing lots of good reports on fishing however not very good reports on ice conditions.
  3. I think no more than three fish per species would be good if you keep diffent points per fish. A grand slam could be worth additional points 50 points. Just ideas to make it more fun. I agree everyone should take off at the same time.
  4. Made the first trip out today for this year. Landed 25 walleye, 1 Perch, and 1 sucker. Best depth was 26 to 27 fow. All colors worked but a glow perch was by far the best. Numbers 5 and 7. I keep a walleye and perch for dinner and they were very good, all other fish released.
  5. That's a great idea for decorating the tree. Instead of the wife buying ordainments for the tree, I could go to the bait shop and pick out more baits!
  6. You can let the air out of the lakers like the walleyes when you release them. A study took place a few years ago on released lakers and how many make it. I got one tagged in the study a few years back.
  7. The alewives have many predators big and small. Plankton reduction from mussels are the biggest problem, but more salmon equal less alewives so closing the season would not be a good idea in my opinion. Managing a moving target is not easy but without the bottom of the food chain the top will collapse.
  8. 3 for 4 two salmon and a laker. 120 to 130 was best South east troll 300 copper blue and Crome lost one Rigger 125 down green bubble king Rigger 109 down green dolphin king Rigger 120 down green bubble laker
  9. painting plugs works and is very rewarding when it's the hot bait on the boat. I think a couple company's will also do it for a fee as well.
  10. Heard fishing was good this summer but never made it out of harrisville this year. In Alpena area blue Kato took fish every trip out for me. If you try by the point might run body baits as walleye are always nice bonus fish.
  11. The darker colors were going first but toward the end the brighter colors took fish. Had a few two year old salmon, a nice steelhead, and a few old lakers.
  12. We started setting lines just after 10am and had none stop action tell noon boating 10 fish. Kept 9 and release 3 fish. Yes a couple got away too. The bite slowed after noon and fish changed color. Fished spoons mostly and one fly. One fish had about fifty bait fish in the stomach and another had about 30. The rest of the fish had empty stomachs. 59 and 60 degree surface temp was best. Trolling with the current was best. 2 color with Mimi dolphin was hot 3 color with monkey puke was hot 5 color with monkey puke 225 copper with yellow pink uv spoon. 250 copper mongose went twice. Diver 80 and 188 back went twice with super man. Rigger 55 down blue Kato went a couple times. Rigger 60 and also 80 down went twice with green bubble and pickled sunshine. Sorry I kept it short but last time I spent an hour writing a long report and lost it while trying to post it.
  13. Not a bad idea to write your name and phone number on the case. I also engraved info on the blade. Just in case someone who is not on the site finds it and wanted to return it.
  14. Look for advice or a service center on a cannon digi troll rigger which has power but the key pad doesn't respond. Reset button didn't do anything. Thank you in advance.
  15. iPhone works fine for me but I know others are having problems.
  16. Everyday is different but I know you don't need a fish hawk to do well either. Sog can work but it often change for your troll direction. If you marking fish and they are not biting keep changing direction and or speed. Makesure you pay attention when you do get a bite to what was happening and try and match that or adjust a little more. You can watch other boats for direction of troll but I would stay away form matching they're speed. Different programs need different speeds.
  17. $515 new for x4 at northwoods last I checked.
  18. I would also recommend a 9.9 for what I have seen an heard about them. I have an 8 two stroke on my 16 and it works perfect. Had a 4 stroke mounted on it once and it was two heavy. Make sure your transome is good and possible add some reinforcing. Make sure to seal any holes up with marine adhesive 5200 during the install.
  19. The x4 unit is about $515.00 new currently and the 840 is older I would guess the price of maybe $200 or less depending on condition. I know a newer probe off the x4 will work with the old unit but don't think the old probe will work on a new unit. Not sure about the x4d.
  20. Me an my dad fished Saturday and landed 12 fish total keep 7 walleye. Fish were in 10.5 feet of water north about 2 miles out. Moonshine bloody nose, clown, and rachet jaw. Clown rap, and green jig head were also working. Ice was still holding good but don't think it will be to long before shore ice gets bad.
  21. My dad and I fish Saturday and limited out. Best fishing was to the south in 18fow. Baits were moonshine bloody nose, green jig head, blue and chrome rap.
