  1. Decided to go fishing tonight because the weather and waves looked too good not to. About once a season, I'll take an evening weekday trip if I don't have to work the next morning. Usually I catch one or none and swear off evening trips for another year. Tonight seemed typical. Left the dock at 5:15 and had first hit while setting lines in 130 fow. Took a nice coho 70 down on a rigger with DW Alygator at 6:15. It seemed like I was in for a typical evening trip until about 9 PM when both dipsey's went. One with blue/chrome spindoctor and blue Big Weenie fly back 180 feet and the other was crush UV spindoctor with Big Weenie Last Brunch fly back 150 feet. Both came in 130 fow. Actually all the fish came in 130 fow. Dipsey fish weighed 24 and 21 lbs. In the ensuing chaos of a double with those fish and only 2 people on board, we failed to notice a board hit on 300 copper until pulling lines. Copper had a blue spatterback plug on it that took an 11 lb king. Best evening ever, so might just have to go back out Tuesday night.
  2. Congrats! on the finish. We fished some of the same water but didn't do quite as well on the weight. I also believe I met your dad on the dock. Whoever it was seemed interested in hardtops. For what its worth, we went 11 for 11 over the 3 days of the tournament. A 14 lb king in the amusement park conditions for the Ladies Tournament, 6 fish on Sat and 4 on Sunday, for 20th overall. Most hits came on riggers down 70 - 85 feet, 300 copper with blue spatterback plug took 3 hits, and one hit one a braid dipsey 3 setting 210 back with blue/chrome spindoctor and blue fly.
  3. Well done, Bob! Good thing it wasn't two 20 lb-ers.
  4. Nice job! I probably should have joined you out there. Only managed 2 fish and one throwback fishing 90 - 110 fow.
  5. Thanks for the info. Reports are usually scarce the week before a tournament.
  6. I know nothing about Onekama but that's one sweet boat for a salmonoob:thumb:
  7. Can't say much about the fishing, flies or fleas but it was one of the friendliest days radio-wise in recent memory. Did not hear " Get the #*$@(#&$ off my lines!!!" even once. Very nice chatting with Fishing Van, GW and Littleboat. Was hoping the light breeze would keep the flies down but no such luck. I had so many on my front windshield, thought I was going to have to find port with radar and GPS. Anyway, 2 for 2 today. One small steelhead 3 lbs and a nice eater king. Steelie came on UV/crush/slick Spindoctor with my favorite Big Weenie Last Brunch fly on braid dipsey set to 3 180 back. Got into the rigger cable while we were picking off fleas and made a real mess of things. Somehow was able to net the thing with the rigger cable wrapped around its head. Hit came in 137 fow. King came in 125 fow. Thought it hit the opposite side dipsey at first but when I got it in it was snagged on the 300 copper. Once I got that tangle undone, I realized I had a fish on the copper. Fish bit on DW blue spatterback plug. Pulled lines early because of the heat. On call this weekend, so no fishing for me until next Wednesday.
  8. Yeah, hopefully the weather will hold out this week
  9. Don't know if anybody really needs this report since it seemed like everybody and their grandmother was out today. 5 for 5 with 2 coho, 2 lakers and one steelhead. Set lines in 75 fow and trolled SW with main strategy being avoid the pack at all costs. Landed a double in 85 fow with 12 lb laker on UV Spindoctor Big Weenie Last brunch fly 75 down and coho on 150 copper with dreamweaver blue spatterback plug. Began heading out as it got busier and picked up another laker in 95 fow on Pink Panties off rigger 55 down. 4th fish was another coho in 115 fow on the rigger with Pink Panties 55 down again. Moved in to 75 fow as the pack slid out and took a nice steelie on braid dipsey set to 3 and back 135 feet. Good fishing all!
  10. Very nice brown indeed! Glad to see you were able to get the rookies out. Wednesday was kinda rough out there.
  11. Silver fish are definitely back! 6 for 6 today, 5 kings and a coho. All the kings again were taken just south of sliders but north of Saugy channel. North troll was best 2.5 at ball but did take the coho on south troll just south of Holland channel. Water temps were definitely a bit cooler north toward Holland as well. Probe on rigger 70 down was 51-52 south of sliders but 49-50 near Holland. Fished 85 - 115 fow with 100-110 being best. Agent Orange Moonshine spoon took 2 hits off rigger 40 down early and 70 down later. Big Weenie Last Brunch with UV crush/slick Spindoctor off braid dipsey set to 3 100' back. Fleas are annoying on the braid but this set up has done so well for me I hate to run it any different. Dreamweaver blue spatterback plug on 300 copper took two hits. Finally, a yellow back plug with blue spatters on 150 copper took the coho.
  12. I'd second the wave buoy since it gives down temps as well. http://uglos.mtu.edu/station_page.php?station=45029 More likely than not fish will either be biting out of temp or the temp break will be at the depth most people are catching fish.
  13. Best fishing out of Holland is off Saugatuck right now, and it does seem to be picking up. Decent coolers at the cleaning station when I came in. Light on kings but they are making their presence known. Set up halfway between sliders and Saugatuck channel going 5/6 but had no real coho program to run. Fished 80-100 fow like most everyone else. South troll was best but took a 12 lb steelie heading north for last fish on dipsey 150 back with UV Showtime spindoctor with Problem Child fly. That set up took an 8 lb steel as well. UV crush Spindoctor with Last Brunch fly took 2 kings, 10 & 16 lbs. Picked up a laker on UV paddle with Jon's Little Weiner fly off rigger 70 down. Last was a rip on 5 color leadcore with double orange crush that came off.
  14. Mainly fish. For some reason I haven't marked much bait all year.
  15. Set up in 45 fow straight out of channel and had good marks from 45-50 fow. Started on south troll with no takers. Came back on my line and all the marks were gone. Started southwest troll and didn't mark anything until just before Saugatuck. Went 2 for 3 with 2 coho in 100 fow off Saugatuck. Dreamweaver Captain's Choice blue spatterback plug on 150 copper took one hit. The always reliable Big Weenie Last Brunch with UV spindoctor on braid dipsey set at 3 120 feet back to the other 2 hits. See ya'll out there again tomorrow.
  16. Overshot them a bit this morning. Had no marks, no bait no nothing heading west straight out of Holland. Finally got impatient and set lines in 130 fow. Trolled out to 210 fow still with no marks. Water did seem to warm up a bit around 160 fow. Spoke with a guy going by GW who took 2 in 90 fow on dipseys with spindoctor and fly. So I turn back in and had a nice rip on braid dipsey 120 back with UV spindoctor and Last Brunch fly. Bent the hook and got off. That was pretty much it for 5 hours. Will be out early again tomorrow so feel free to give me a shout or, better yet, clue me in.
  17. Darn, wish the weather would have been more cooperative earlier. Gonna have to show my wife the pics, maybe she'll feel guilty.
  18. Kevlar glove may not be macho, but it has saved me from stitches several times.
  19. As an impartial observer, I'd tend to agree with you....adorable.
  20. The boat not starting sounds like their karma was messed up to begin with.
  21. Another slow day of fishing. 3 for 3 with laker in 115 fow, a nice coho and a throwback king in 215 fow. laker came on braid dipsey set at 3 120 back with green spindoctor and white fly. Coho came on bloody nose off rigger 50 down. King came on blue bubble spoon off rigger 45 down. Very few marks and uniform temperatures from 60 fow out to 240 fow, basicly 53F on surface to 43F 60' down to 42F 150' down.
  22. Not much going on out there this morning. Set lines in 50 fow straight out at 5:15 AM and took first hit in 95 fow at 6:15, landing an eater-sized king. Made another pass back in but no takers so went out to 100 fow and began marking fish. Made a couple passes from 100 - 130 but again no action so began heading west marking fish sporadically out to 170 fow. Radio chatter seemed to indicate others were having slow action inside so continued to head west and pulled lines at 230 fow. Did manage to take another small steelhead at 215 fow. Hits came on braid dipsy set at 3 90 feet back in 95 fow with UV/Crush spindoctor and the Big Weenie Last Brunch fly again. Steelhead came on 5 color with an old SS dark blue/dark orange spoon of which I no longer remember the name. And that's all I have to say about that.
