  1. 20# Cortlandt Flea Flicker. Twist can be a bit of a problem at times but not as much as the fleas. Can't say it doesn't get nicked like the Blood Run but I have had a problem with breakoffs either. Though I may try the Blood Run anti-flea when I respool (thought I saw that product on their website, but not too sure, might be someone else)
  2. Idiot fish..............serves 'em right.
  3. Reverse pattern is more to catch the fisherman more than the fish. Think about it........how many live baitfish do you see out there with a reverse pattern?
  4. There is the way things are and then there is the way they ought to be. I am well aware of how laws and legislation is written and why seemingly unrelated measures are included having had to deal with the headaches HIPAA has caused over the last few years. Using that as an example, I whole heartedly agree with the goals the HIPAA act set out to achieve, but the results have been just one big pain in the buttocks from being manipulated and rewritten by the political system. I just hope the politicos don't get bored with the invasives problem and point to this legislation saying, "See! We've addressed the issue. We've passed legislation. We've fixed the Asian Carp problem and for only $ 1 million." That being said, you've convinced me. Will there be a petition to sign at the MUCC booth in Novi?
  5. While I wouldn't go so far as to call the petition BS, it certainly seems naïve and unfocused. My first thought on reading the summary as well was that "sound science" is a rather vague expression. While I'm all for limiting outside special interests, I don't see how the invasive species issues or benefits for active military servicemen directly relate. Though those are both worthy issues in their own right. From my perspective the petition violates the KISS principle as so much legislation usually does.
  6. That is one pretty steely. Though you, might have had better luck if you'd have fixed the "snow" on your fish finder.
  7. Any fish? Not sure nuking an alewife is worth $6K. Also, I'd like to request a drone package so I can fish from my couch in my underwear.
  8. Or could be why some colors are hot for a year or two then nothing
  9. Wow! Gonna have to think twice about putting my stuff away next fall.
  10. You also mentioned you're running all spoons and plugs. You might think about adding a flasher/fly to your program. It may not take hits, but might help draw fish in to your spread.
  11. Same type of day here. 1 for 1 with coho in 125 feet with blue/yellow spatterback plug off rigger 60 down. Set up in 60 fow and went SW and SE back and forth between 70 and 100 fow with no takers. So moved out, and once the skunk was out moved back in for bigger fish but still no takers.
  12. I've ran paddles, spinnies, and spoons off mono and SWR on deepest rigger and have caught fish on all of them. I don't think it makes a difference. Thanks for the question, looks like I'll be running plugs off my deep rigger next time out:thumb:
  13. Nicely done! How big were the fish and how were the waves?
  14. Mid-season you may want to set lines a bit earlier. I like to have my entire spread out and be fishing for about an hour before official sunrise time. Some days the easy early bite may be all there is for several hours. The other point of advice that no one has mentioned is to fish more, not less. I'll take a week or so off in June when fishing is traditionally slow, but fishing out of Holland/Port Sheldon was just picking up when you got discouraged. With holidays and vacations I've been able to string together a few days in close succession and usually catch more at the end than I do at the beginning. One of the main advantages the charters have in catching fish is they are out there doing it every day.
  15. Another tough day of fishing. Finished 2 for 4 with 2 coho. Set lines at 70 fow with lots of marks and bait. Fished out to 140 fow but all hits came 105 -115 fow. 300 copper with MOP DW plug, 150 copper with blue spatter back plug, and downrigger 55 down with blue & yellow spatter back plug went twice.
  16. Fishing was slow today after a great Saturday. Set up in the chop south of sliders in 100 fow on a north troll. Drifted in to 85 fow, so turned south and headed southwest when a 25# king hit UV spindoctor with Big Weenie Last Brunch fly on braid dipsey 90 back set to 3. Had great marks and bait when setting up but by the time we got that one in everything was gone. Trolled back to point where we set up without any marks so began heading out. Got to 160 fow without any takers. Would have liked to get out to 200 but wind and waves weren't cooperating so zig-zagged north mainly between 100 -125. No hits until pulling lines when found a small laker on the 300 copper, which probably in part explains the slow day. Finished 2 for 2.
  17. Probably a lot depends on the fish and skill of the knife wielder. For me its about 4 lbs of fish gives one pound of meat. Obviously yours weighed 60 lbs.
  18. Fished this morning with Adam (overthelimit) and I couldn't have asked for better crew. He gave up a beer tent to go out this morning from across the state and arrived at the slip ahead of the designated time. Don't hesitate to take him if he answers your rider request. Kinda felt bad pulling lines on him at 11:30 two short of a two man limit. Finished 8 for 8 with 3 kings, 3 coho, and 2 steelhead. East/west troll was the key and speed didn't seem to matter. Couldn't keep it under 3.1 at the ball going east and took 4 hits. Also took 4 hits going west with speed at ball 1.9-2.3. Set lines at 100 fow and took first hit at 115. Trolled south for a while with no takers so began heading west and took 2 hits in 140 & 150 fow. Made it out to 180 fow with good marks but no takers on north or south troll so went back in again with 2 hits going east at 130 & 125 fow. One more hit going west out to 160. Finished with a double in 135 fow. Every thing went except the 150 copper and took hits on spindoctor/flies, plugs, and even the Huntington Bank spoon I got in the captain's bag at the Big Red Tournament. Dipsy's back 90 and 200 took hits, riggers 60 - 80 down, and 300 copper. With stable weather pattern it looks to be an outstanding week of fishing coming up.
  19. Nice job! I haven't had many marks in that 100-150 range either all summer but they're still there. Were you north, south or straight out?
  20. Nah, was still under warranty. No charge for tow or repairs. Gas gauge malfunction. Read about 3/8 of a tank but was bone dry.
  21. Nice job! My crew refuses to believe there are fish north of Spyglass. Usually easier to give in than argue. Perhaps this will change their minds.
  22. Holland 8/10 Set lines shallow in 50 fow marking tons of hooks and bait straight out of the channel. I've been seeing these all year and hadn't been able to get them to go. I had been passing them up but I figured today was the day they were going to bite. I figured wrong. Missed half the early bite trolling out to 110 fow. Finished the day 3 for 4. Fished until 11:30 with no bites for last 3 hours. Not such a good day but better than a skunk. Missed on Agent Orange Moonshine spoon on rigger 65 down. King on Blue Flounder Pounder 75 down. King on blue/chrome spindoctor with Jon's Little Wiener fly on dipsey 210 back. King on 300 copper with blue spatterback plug. All hits came 110 - 130 fow. Holland 8/11 Weather wave reports looked so good decided to give it a try again today. Wound up 6 for 6. Fishing was much better but other things not so much. Trying not to wake my wife, smashed little toe on furniture. Needless to say wife wound up awake. Didn't seem like much at the time but started throbbing after we set lines in 100 fow. First hit was laker off rigger 75 down with the blue Flounder Pounder again in 130 fow. Trolled back in to 100 fow and took a double on 300 copper with mother of pearl DW plug and DW SS Skinny Blue Jeans on rigger 55 down. Took another hit on that same rigger in 120 fow. All 3 were kings. Bite seemed to cool off again after 8 AM similar to Saturday, but then took 2 more coho at 10:30 and 11. One off rigger 75 down in 120 fow with blue spatterback DW plug and one off the Skinny Blue Jeans on the rigger 55 down. Would've liked to fish longer with the bite picking up but by then my toe was throbbing so much I decided to call it. Got everything all packed up and took the fish to the cleaning station. Got the fish all nicely cleaned and went to leave and the car wouldn't start. Creel census takers were nice enough to help jump but still no go. Actually got it to turn over but didn't seem to be getting gas for some reason. Wife wasn't too upset a being roused from her sleep a second time and arrived within minutes of the tow. If I have to go through all that for gorgeous weather and conditions and 6 fish, I'll take it every time.
  23. Fished that water over the weekend and took fish on 300 copper, riggers 60-80 down, and braid dipseys 150-210 back.
  24. Been seeing a few perchers come through the Holland cleaning station who said they were biting. Sorry, but don't have more details than those.
