http://www.ludingtondailynews.com/news/66800-boat-hits-manistee-south-pier-several-injured Saturday morning around 6am, the Manistee City Police and Fire Department responded to a 911 call reference a boat hitting the 1st St. Pier (South Pier). The original call came in with information that there were possibly two subjects seriously injured. A preliminary investigation shows that the 1997 Bahacruise 27ft Fiberglass Boat, owned and operated by a subject from Custer, MI was leaving the port of Manistee sometime close to 6:00am. It appears at this time, the operator failed to navigate the vessel outside the pier heads and crashed into the South Pier. Two of the passengers on this vessel were transported to West Shore Medical Center, where they in turn were transported to Munson Medical Center. At this time one is listed in Critical Condition and one in Serious Condition. A total of 7 passengers were on board this vessel. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this boating accident. The Manistee City Police and Fire Department was assisted by the West Shore Medical Center Ambulance and the United States Coast Guard Manistee Station. The vessel was to be removed sometime Sunday morning.

Fishing was tougher this weekend, warm water everywhere inside but fish are there, just hard to get to bite. A lot of fish are in PM Lake and some are moving upstream. Still a lot of fish in the big lake. On 8-25, we started in 120 water SW in the 53's and worked west. Hit 2 fish and lost one by sunrise, one 175 down on a rigger with a Moonshine Razerburn. Another on a low mag diver out 200 ft with a green glow spin doctor and seaweed fly. We pulled lines and ran out to the 38 line west and trolled west from there. Hit a double and went for a while and hit another. Got to the 42's and hit two more doubles there and few others, ended up 10 for 17. 2 kings, 2 coho and 6 steelhead. Fish were not big out deep, lost mostly steelhead offshore. Hoping to find next years kings out there but we did not. Today, it was blowing good when we got to the docks. It was fishable but was going to be rough out where we ended up Saturday. We decided to take it easy and fish PM lake. We went 3 for 4 in there with nice kings hitting plugs. Our best was a low mag wire diver out 40 ft with a ace hi lucky charm. That got bit twice, a ms mongolian beef plug and a green glow plug got bit on riggers down 22 and 18. More fish in the lake than I expected. Here's a PM Lake King Good luck!

If you are fishing Ludington this weekend, there is a benefit Fishing Tournament @ $25 per boat for Ray "Finney" Finholm, who was lost at sea last week. This is on Saturday Aug 25th 5:00am to 11:00am 90% goes to Ray's widow and 10% goes to the biggest fish. 3:00pm a benefit Fish fry/Boil $10 Donation per plate and goes until ???. All proceeds go to Ray's widow, all are welcome. Fish donations would be greatly appreciated Perch, Bluegill, Salmon and Trout---please help out if you can. Ray's Auto and Marine is right before the Washington St Bridge on Washington St. Turn south off US 10 to get there.

Nice catch Don, that warm water has been making it tough, some buddies said it slowed down in Ludington this week after the warm water rolled in there.

Love it! In Ludington we rarely have issues with long lines until August and the next 2 weekends will be the worst of the year.

If you are looking at a boat that old, you need to have it surveyed by a qualified marine surveyor. It is very important to know if the stringers or transom are sound or if they are rotted. It will cost a few hundred bucks but is worth it.
