  1. Welcome to the 20 pounder club Dan. I got one June 2 in St Ignace. I am looking for some 25+ pounders to be out there soon, it would be really nice to get a 30 pounder this year. I have not done that in quite a while but I have done it. Good job on the salmon all that I got last night was a dink for the smoker.
  2. It is so much fun to watch these kids. That guy did everything from driving the boat to cranking on the fish. What an outdoorsman he was, and you have to give Scott lot of credit as a parent. This guy is really interested in hunting and fishing. It was a fun fishing trip glad that you caught fish to take home.
  3. Got out last weekend June 12 & 13 with a couple of guys on the site scgibby11 & slickwater. I gave me an opportunity to check out how the other guys fish and we had a good time. The kids on the boat got to fight the fish which at this point in life it is always more fun to watch them catch a fish. We caught some fish and lost some fish but a good time was had by all. I am looking forward to fishing with you guys again good luck meanwhile. The weather actually cooperated even though the forecast said rain all weekend
  4. During the early am or late evening I cut back on the number of lines that I run so that I won't get a king running across lines. Most of the time down to two poles with sliders or 4 poles with stackers. I do not want to spend the prime fishing time messing with a bird nest of lines. I have put just as many fish in my boat running 4 lines as guys I have seen running 8 or more lines. When the fish are not biting well I tend to put up to 8 lines out just to cover different depths.
  5. Finally tried thiis recipie with a few changes. I used smoked salmon and threw in five pieces of cut up bacon. Then I threw some fresh chives and grated cheese on each bowl. Wow is this chowder some good stuff. I can't wait to hit the leftovers tonight when I get home from fishing. I knew there was a reason to catch salmon.
  6. Good Job on the lakers. The more that you catch the less that I have to take off of my lines. Where I am fishing I really don't expect to get into them for another couple of weeks. Then we will be in Laker heaven fishing for salmon. They are pretty good on a slow smoke then glaze them with orange marmalade jam. I don't throw them back.
  7. If you are looking to catch some fish north of the Mighty Mac give me a shout
  8. We have a whole lotta Finlanders in da UP. We are very fortunate to have only about 4 months of boat action in the UP of Michigan. The rest of the time about 5 months is ice fishing. That is fortunate if you like to go ice fishing like I do.
  9. Nice to hear of a big bust like that every now and then. Keeps the rest of the poachers on their toes a little more. Interesting that they lost their boats but surprised that they got to keep their pick up trucks.
  10. WOW what a fire drill. Count your blessings and the boat survived the storm too.
  11. July 10, 2010 6:00 am start there will be a Trout & Salmon Tournament in St Ignace at the boat launch site to benefit the March of Dimes. The tournament is sponsored by Farmers Insurance and Jim Wehrs Mackinaw Outfitters. For information or a registration form email [email protected] or call Bob Holmes at 906-643-8630.
  12. Fishing is fun ..Catching is more fun sounds like you did a little of both. Good Job
  13. I have a picture in my images if someone can bring it over, I appreciate it.
  14. Sunday morning I caught an 18 pound king off from St Ignace. Last night I was out in 4 foot chops and had lost two fish, I had just got it all reset and a rod went off. The fish would not come loose from the release but it still managed to tangle the slider and stacker. It had me down to about 30 feet of line left when all of the tangles were undone. I was surprised the fish was still hooked. When we put this one on the scales it went 22 pounds. You can bet by fall these fish will be about 6 pounds heavier. It was the only fish but it was worthwhile.
  15. Sounds like every launch allows you to pay an annual fee which is great if you only fish in one spot. The DNRE could put an annual fee right on the fishing license and allow the fisherman to pay when you buy a license and you would be elgible to use all launch sites which would make sense. The drawback is that sailboaters, kayak, canoers, and weekenders would be trying to get in for free. just about every time I launch or pull my salmon boat out of the water I see as many as 5 freebies use the site. This is in St Ignace at the City site and the police do not enforce it. What really gets the steam cooking is when you try to launch at 5 am and the freeloaders are tied to the docks sleeping these are usually sailboats or sleepers who launch for free and will pull out for free.
  16. If the rain holds off I will be launching Chrome 1 again tonight so I hope that I can report some more fish
  17. Try staying out later or getting out earlier. The last few minutes before daylight or after the sun goes down can be very productive. I picked up 3 nice kings over the weekend two hit at 6 am and one at 9 pm.
  18. Got the chrome 1 wet three times over the weekend and put 4 salmon in the boat. The biggest was 18 pounds on Sunday am. You have to work for them but as the temperature stays hot downstate more fish will start showing up in the straits area. Green dolphins in 100 fow 60 down were the ticket.
  19. I finally have Chrome 1 ready to go and will be fishing in front of St Ignace over the weekend if you are interested let me know. I have room for up to 3 I was in Gaylord yesterday hot hot hot

  20. I would hate to ruin things by posting a photo of the chrome 1 19 foot 1985 starcraft holiday, I do know that last year we only caught the skunk on one trip out of 70. So ugly as it is, it knows how to find the fish. Nice boats guys let me know if we can work out a trade.
  21. Lets see you go out about 5 miles to get to 100 feet of water. There is actually 50 feet of water because below that the next 50 feet is nothing but fish. I have fished there but we always go out about 12 miles from South Haven. By the time we get the third line set we usually have a double on the first two. Off of the coast guard in St Ignace you are in 100 feet of water about 200 yards from shore. But that is 100 feet of water, the fish don't stack up as good. By Mackinac Bridge there is 200+ fow and that is where the salmon can stack up
  22. Great Job, Surprised to hear that the Atlantics are in thick that far south. We watched a couple of them jumping right out of the water a couple of hundred feet from shore in St Ignace a couple of days ago. I still would like to get down there and fish with you. That or you are welcome to come up to St Ignace and fish off of my boat. I have to find a boat on auto show weekend as I will not be able to trailer mine through town to get it in the water. I might get a spot at the marina and put it in a slip. Then I can walk from my house and fish
  23. I can help you, Yoda is going to have charters then. I sent you a PM. I think some nicer salmon will be in about 100 fow about then but they will be scattered on the depth chart. Lake trout will be plentiful and up high there should be steelies and Atlantics.
