Be careful these silver critters will hook you hard! If you get up to So.Haven call us on channel 69 or 11, MCsquared is the boat hope to hear u r catching all the fish u can handle. 4. Andy I got message see you on the lake or sooner If you want to hit St Joe with me I am getting the boat out of storage on the 29th will try to find a crew to go over on the 30th after i prep and load all the stuff on board. Then back to the canvas shop and a new aft cover befor we drop her in the following week.

  5. I will second the hard work getting big fish to the boat on Cores or copper, In the early days of Lake Michigan Salmon fishing 1970 to 1985, there were down riggers and pink ladies, they both produced but we never ran dodgers off pink ladies. Then the Dipsy Diver showed up and we ran them because we could spread more lines out. I had 20' Angler Specialty Hawaiian outriggers on my old Supertramp boat and ran a lot of 2 and 1# dropper balls with dodgers and flies behind them. The advent of the big flashers has opened up a lot of possibilities, they troll faster than dodgers, they run straighter they dont swing wildly side to side like a dodger and they can be fished off of dipsies or riggers equally well and at speeds over 3mph. The fixed slider is a standard presentation on my boat but we only run 2 downriggers when the weather warms up. The fixed slider pictured is my standard rig. Mike (Supertramp) Boat MCsquared
  6. How does that 600' from the boat work in 3 to 4 foot seas? I can run 3 lines out each side of the boat 1 wire dipsey and four riggers on an 8' beam and still keep the lines from tangling if I am careful but my copper 300' is closest to the boat then I run a full core then usually a 5 to 7 color lead core. I use 45# copper and I use the big rings on the dipseys they are usually the deepest presentation. my riggers don't interfer with any of my long line presentations. Just have to watch quick turns and make sure I am not going across current. I have never run an inline player anymore than 125' out.
  7. I have been to one of their seminars and it was very informative, the tackle bag u get is worth the price of admission, I got spoons and some big john planer boards and a lot of terminal tackle. They give you a lot of info on speeds and how to use your electronics to stay on active fish.
  8. One thing the west coasties don't figure into their speed is the Steelhead and Lake Trout that we in the great lakes get. I wonder if your Trout catch will suffer by trolling at the higher speeds?
  9. I love the CV55 but I use 45lb copper and it sinks faster and get the same depth with 300' that u get with 450 ft of 30lb. That shortens the length u have out behind the boat and makes running more lines easier.
  10. Mike the winding thing is very important, I suggest about 15 yards of mono as a backing for p-pro, this will prevent the dreaded braid slip on the arbor, wind on the mono use an albright knot to attach the p-pro then wind on all the p-pro and attacha t 45# swivel to attach to the dipsey diver. Remember anytime u use braided line u need a small amount of mono to prevent arbor slip. That goes for the pre wound Lead core with the braided backer. Good Luck and great fishing Supertramp(Mike)d Boat name MCsquared
  11. Take your time and listen to the guys on this site, there are some really good fishermen on this site. You can spend a lot or a little depending on your budget. Lead Core rigs are not too expensive to set up and you can fish a lot of different patterns with them. I suggest at least a 1,3, 5, and a full core lets you get a lot of depths. Riggers if you have them are nice I have 4 but only use 2 most of the time. On my litttle boat I had 2 penn long arms and the rest was all Lead core and Copper. If you want to take a boat ride in the spring I will be In So. Haven as soon as the boat is prepped. Contact me @ this site or South Haven link in the links section here. Good luck and great fishing Mike(Supertramp) Chamberlin Boat Name MC Squared
  12. I live in Kalamazoo and boat is kept at summer place marina in So.Haven April to October. 10 minutes fm slip to pierheads.
  13. Ouch sounds like one of my good days. Been there on those days that nothing goes right
  14. If the walkers are not holding your paddles there is no better way to set them than to take 1 full wrap using the line to the lure. Bill Walker designed the release in about 1974 and they are adjustable but can cause line abrasion if tightened too much. I have run them up until about 1984 and then went to rubberbands because we were dragging too many fish. Shakers wont trip them and due to a solid hook up they don't shake the rod. Most important always use the line to the lure to wrap or pull into the release. I still have some of the original Walker releases and the only difference is the adjust knob on the back of the barrel is not knurled, and they are black.
  15. Adam: I used the walkers for many years and the proper way to attach is take the line to the lure and wrap 1 or 2 times around the release and pull it in be sure not to wrap the line to the rod or you won't release. The biggest problem is with shakers you never see them. That is why I went to rubber bands. Walker also makes a very good stacker system where the stacker release is set at a fixed distance from the ball usually 10 2 12 ft and it is a barrel that has the cable thru it and a small ferrule is crimped at the fixed distance on the cable and you can stack 2 rods on the rigger. I currently just use fixed or free sliders on the main line to get more baits in the water.
  16. The Big Jon band buster is a very effective and inexpensive way of hooking up the bands I have used bands since the early 1980's and used to make my own hookups from 1/2" bar stock then use downrigger cable and a snap swivel to attach to the ball. My son still uses them but I have found the Band Buster to be a very effective way of hooking up the bands and they will hold just about any type of rig I throw off the rigger. I wrap the main line around 3 fingers about 3 times then pass the band thru the wraps then back thru itself and it is a solid hook up no slips. If 1 band doesn't hold just use 2 especially for big flashers or paddles and on anything more than 2 colors of lead off the rigger. I prefer #16 or 19 bands u can get them at any office supply and they are very inexpensive. Be sure to keep the bands out of the bilge they can mess up a bilge pump. Supertramp Boat name MC squared
  17. Great looking boat Ken My new rig is a 1974 so I can relate to the 30 but in great shape hope you get years of fun out of the rig.
  18. OK so u got me I do net head first, wanted to see if anyone would see the comment about Bass net style that the bass pros use. It doesn't work on large salmonids. Be sure to get the net basket open and deep enough to get the head of the fish well in to it before u lift.
  19. OK I guess my 2 cents are appropriate. I get very nervous when people handle the net on my boat, I have a partner that tried to scoop a 20# king head first this spring when we were on the 15' Supertramp, about had a heart attack, luckily we got the rod in his hands and I netted the fish. The most important thing I think we all need to remember is that green fish will get u everytime slow down play the fish and get a long enough handle net that you can come in from behind and under the fish, No lures caught in the net and no fish farmered by a bad net job. But remember there is always another fish not always another friend or fishing buddy. Screaming and getting upset when a fish is lost is just plain wrong. Enjoy your time on the water and don't measure your success by the number of fish you land but by the time spent with friends and co anglers.
  20. I typically run full core and 300' of copper off of the church walleye boards one of the most important things is to make that your deepest set on each side is closest to the boat then go to the shorter lines and gradually get to shallower sets, forms a V from the middle out. then you can get away with running more boards, and not get tangled when you get a fish on . It is quite easy to get the set up but the turns are critical. I usually run my dipsys then the 300' copper then the 200 copper then a 5 color on one side of the boat, the other side is a dipsy rig then the 300 or 400 copper then a full core, then a 4 to 7 color depending on desired depth. Fortunately my boat runs 4 riggers and it is important to be sure that the dipsys are not deeper than your riggers. I do like the church Walleye boards in the summer and fall. In the spring it is the big john and yellow birds for shallow water fishing with mono and power pro lines, using the same V pattern to set always running deepest inside and working up as you go out. This enables you to let the outside rigs straight out the back and let them swing out over the inside presentations. I learned this from Russ (Rusty P) when I fished with him befor I bought his boat and it has worked well no tangles and no issues. To tell when a fish hits I run the drags light and set the clickers when you get a hit the reel screams at you. Goodluck and give me a bump and come down and fish with me in the spring the boat will be in the water by April 10th in So. Haven.
  21. Well not a great weekend finished Sunday with 1 short Laker and 3 missed strikes, weather was nasty. Left pierheads @ 7:20 and ran to 85 FOW Started a west troll and marked very little in the way of fish all morning. Finally boated a short Laker on Power Pro Dipsey out 240' White Dodger and Horsefly. 2 other hits, 1 came off behind the boat small king on Tequila Sunrise Fishlander. The other no Idea it released the rigger and was gone. I was using rubber band releases and doubled due to the rough weather. Early it was 1 to 2' when we quit it was rolling 4 to 6 and capping came in and it was washing out the pierheads. Saturday We fished in calm seas and had some luck. ended up 5 for 9 3 kings 1 short laker and 1 5# steelhead forgot the camera Saturday but have pics of the new boat that I got today after we got it out of the water. Will be winterizing tomorrow and storing for the season. The boat is a 23' John Allmand Hardtop Cuddy. Gonna try to get the pics uploaded in the Galleries. New name will follow for the boat.
  22. We will be going out Saturday and Sunday weather permitting then pulling the boat out to get ready for winter storage. If anyone gets out of So. Haven I will be monitoring 68 or call my cell 269 9294221. Nextel Direct Connect is 131*532601*17. The Supertramp will have a new name on the boat next season not sure what it will be but will sure let everyone know. I will post pics of the new rig after we get some when it is on the trailer.
