  1. Just my opinion, but the torpedoes are way over priced. I make my own trolling weights. I use a crescent weight mold and add bead chain, and a short leader to a pinch pad release.
  2. Too bad about all the lost hardware.:( On the other hand now you can shop for new toys!:D I like flouro and will keep using it. Nothing is fail proof. I don't change the line very often, but I retie knots regularly and inspect for nicks and abrasion.
  3. People on both sides of this are making it way too personal. People sitting behind keyboards make judgement calls from a distance. Everyone is entitled to express an opinion within the guidelines of this forum. I have no personal interest in this matter. I have heard of BC2 and read some of their articles. They seem like stand-up guys to this point. I also do not think this came about because of jealousy from lesser known anglers. A complaint may have been lodged by another pro. There are too many unknowns at this point. One thing I have learned with age is patience and not to let emotions cloud my judgement! This thing is far from over! Why?? I have never heard of a withdrawal from an event after the weigh-in is complete. Withdraw for any reason before weigh-in……………absolutely!!! For all parties concerned this matter should have been brought up before BC2 weighed their box. Have a quick investigation by questioning all parties concerned. Then this whole mess could have been avoided. At this point it looks like BC2 withdrew to avoid a polygraph. This tournament committee has put themselves behind the 8-ball. No matter how this works itself out, our sport will be the worse for it in the eyes of the public. http://www.ludingtondailynews.com/news/50881-people-who-filed-official-fishing-protests-speak http://www.ludingtontournament.com/event-informantion/pro-am-event http://www.ludingtontournament.com/event-informantion/general-rules
  4. That fin is used to adjust steering torque. It counteracts the torque applied by the spinning of the prop.
  5. These sites may also be of help. Lake Huron Fishing Club. They have a forum. http://64.177.125.54/LHFC/index.html Derby website. http://64.177.125.54/Chantry/index.htm
  6. Buying used is always buyer beware. In this case the dealer even sounded very sketchy. http://www.walleye.com/boatads.htm http://www.glangler.net/framepages/featuredboatsforsale.html Great forum with wealth of information. http://www.thehulltruth.com/ My first boat turned into a nightmare because I didn't know as much as I thought I did. Things looked fine after the water test but went sour before the end of the first season.
  7. 115 hp motor on a boat rated for 200 is a matter of economics. It's a huge price difference between the two motors. 4 strokes are generally heavier and weight becomes a concern. Currently most manufactures of boats, whether glass or aluminum, state a hp rating and a maximum transom weight. The boat shop owner should be able to take you out on the water. With such a short time deadline and no water test, I would be very wary. Question is what are they hiding??? Whatever it is you would be on the hook for it. At the very least they should provide a survey!!!!! Without one, I would walk away!!!
  8. I'd have called the police without hesitation and had them charged with theft. Then claim they damaged the car when it was returned. The only way I would drop the charges is if I got a full refund.
  9. Buyers won't be looking for a deal in this thread. Post them with pics in the for sale section of this site.
  10. Are you kidding?????? This thread is 0ver 3 years old!!!

  12. I have read on other forums where the same thing happened to other trollers. Crimping is a bit of an art. Requires cable, crimp and crimping tool to match. My riggers are old and don't have the auto stop feature. The other posters switched to the Scotty beads. HIH
  13. I would think you don't have to pay a fee, if you have your own boat and diving equipment.
  14. What a moron is right! Over a $5.00 bill???
  15. Owner and Gamakatsu for the most part and Mustad as a third option. I try and match hook size to the spoon. Hook gap should not be wider than the spoon. The hook point should always be toward the cup of the spoon! I like big singles 4/0 to 5/0 for flies and bait strips. For late summer matures a siwash and octopus hooks the rest of the time. If you are into catch and release then use smaller hooks of either style and pinch down the barbs. In this case trebles would likely do less damage. My favorite spoons at this time are Warrior. Very good quality. H.I.H.
  16. Most everyone has a distinct voice or pattern of speech. You and your friends should call this guy out over the radio so all boats in the area know what is going on. In other words blackball the boat so no one talks to the guy. If he persists, then the next time you catch him in the act, immediately call the coast guard and report him. Impersonating another radio operator is a serious offense under federal marine radio laws. Impersonation of another individual is against the law in all aspects of life. Come on DOG, take a bite out of this criminal!
  17. Great fishing there Mr. Dog. Looks like you took a bite out of the king population again!!
  18. You could try Tony at Lord of the Riggers. You just need to find someone who can identify which parts are common with other makes.
  19. My thoughts exactly! Glad to hear you and your family are safe. Material things are easy to replace!
  20. I work in automotive, in the assembly end of things building class 8 trucks. Satellite, CB, GPS, radio and all cables come in standard lengths. Cab and truck lengths do not. We don't cut any!!! All are coiled and stored out of the way. In this case, Shakespeare recommends the same installation. 8" minimum size coil. In my boat, I had to go to an 18" coil for a good signal match. http://www.shakespeare-marine.com/pdf/5225-xt_5226-xt.pdf Aaron, one thing comes to mind. Did you adjust the squelch????? If you don't, you will transmit a distorted signal. Since you cut the cable, did you use a solder type connector? It would be best. HIH
  21. Here is an explanation of SWR from Wikipedia. Basically your antennae and cable need to match for best output. My radio does not have a ground lug either but has worked fine. Practical implications of SWR The most common case for measuring and examining SWR is when installing and tuning transmitting antennas. When a transmitter is connected to an antenna by a feed line, the impedance of the antenna and feed line must match exactly for maximum energy transfer from the feed line to the antenna to be possible. The impedance of the antenna varies based on many factors including: the antenna's natural resonance at the frequency being transmitted, the antenna's height above the ground, and the size of the conductors used to construct the antenna. When an antenna and feedline do not have matching impedances, some of the electrical energy cannot be transferred from the feedline to the antenna. Energy not transferred to the antenna is reflected back towards the transmitter. It is the interaction of these reflected waves with forward waves which causes standing wave patterns. Reflected power has three main implications in radio transmitters: Radio Frequency (RF) energy losses increase, distortion on transmitter due to reflected power from load and damage to the transmitter can occur. Matching the impedance of the antenna to the impedance of the feed line is typically done using an antenna tuner. The tuner can be installed between the transmitter and the feed line, or between the feed line and the antenna. Both installation methods will allow the transmitter to operate at a low SWR, however if the tuner is installed at the transmitter, the feed line between the tuner and the antenna will still operate with a high SWR, causing additional RF energy to be lost through the feedline. That filter is a must on older engines. Can't hurt with newer applications. Could help also when running older kickers.
  22. Aaron, that at the very least will give you clean power and that's a good place to start. Mount the antennae as high as possible. Take the excess cable and form into a coil. Do not bunch it up. After that I just tuck mine somewhere out of the way. I test before I do the final install. The RF meter comes with a chart of acceptable readings. The meter measures signal strength when you key the mic. I got my meter at Radio Shack. When in the harbour or close proximity, I always use the 1 watt setting. I watched two guys fry their radios when they both keyed the mics at the same time on high power at dockside. Keep at it, you'll get it.
  23. I mount my radio on the port side away from the dash. Doesn't seem to matter where the antennae is. Or at least keep the coax away from my dash as much as possible. I don't cut the coax, just keep the excess away from the dash. Run power directly from the battery, not from the dash, this is important! You will have to remember to turn the radio off!! Invest in a cheap RF meter. It will tell you when your signal is at optimal output! Once you find the sweet spot, you're good to go!
  24. Post spawn feed patterns should be the norm. Have a look at the satellite image. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.cgi/modis?region=e&page=1&template=subℑ=a1.10145.1906.LakeErie.143.250m.jpg Water is still stained but getting better daily. Lots of smelt this year and good size to boot. Big die-off this spring. Have not seen one this big in a long time. I would start with stick baits and then go from there. If you are out camping this long weekend then be aware the nights have been pretty chilly (below 60 degrees).
