  1. Nice job! No kings in 5 trips out of St. Joseph for me. Mainly coho and lakers. Smart Troll is on my wish list. I think they would be awesome on the diver rods. Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  2. One laker shy of a grand slam! Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  3. 2 cohos and a laker. Cohos hit on a 3 color and a 100 Cu. Both were on tiny orange spin doctors with a green peanut fly. The laker came on a rigger down 115 ft on a white spin doctor and mirage fly. Fish were taken in 150ish FOW. Had a miss on a green hulk spoon on a 200 Cu. I think it was a coho. Plenty of bait out there on bottom. Had a few suspended arches, but not many. We spent most of our time between 140 and 155. Went as deep as 167. Set lines in 120. Took hits on SE and SW trolls at 2.3 mph at the ball. 42 degree water 40 feet down. A guy at the fish cleaning station went 1 for 3, with the one being a 12# king in 84 FOW. He had two quick downrigger hits in 110 fow that seemed like small fish he said. We pulled lines before 8 as the kids have school in the morning. We'll be back out tomorrow. 4. Thanks for the report. I'll be down in that area later this week for the first trip of the year.
  5. Great looking fish! I think I'll be out next week sometime for the first trip of the year. Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  7. I would agree that seems warm, especially for the recent cold spell.
  8. Beautiful fish! Nice job. Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  9. What a massive laker! Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  10. This was an evening trip. I wanted to run offshore but some of the crew started to get nervous in water over 200 feet deep so I throttled it down in 250 FOW and worker back in. We got a small King on a green and gold flasher with a green crinkle Howie fly in 240 FOW. It hit a rigger down 90. Missed a likely Coho on a five eyes spoon on a high diver out 200 in 228 fow. We decided to run in closed and try and find some mature kings. We should have stayed out deep. Inside we worked 150 to 120 fow. We got a 12 pound King on a double glow plug down 80. Not our best night, but we didn't get skunked. Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  11. Time to get a bigger cooler! Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  12. Rough night for us too. I was thinking a big river port like Muskegon would have done better. I guess not. Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  13. 1st skunk of the year. Started setting lines at 7. We only targeted kings tonight. Had good marks 90 to 110 down between 150 and 130 FOW. From the 3 Bears where we started to about 1 mile N of the pier. (We fished N with the waves to start.) After running out of marks just S of the Project we spun back S into the waves. Shortly after the turn we had a nice hit on a rigger down 80 in 157 FOW. It was a mountain dew flasher with a green crinkle Howie fly. It was steadily pulling drag for about 20 seconds and got off during that initial slow run. We worked into 100 FOW. We found lots of bait and good marks in 135 to 140, but nothing fired. I had spoons, meat, FF and plugs from 80 to 110 feet down which is where we saw the marks. Temp was 55 degrees 95 feet down. Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  14. Two skunk trips...that sucks. How was Holland's king run last year? Sent from my SM-G991U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  15. No. I have an OR16 clip on the back of my boards. I think that does the trick for me. I haven't had an issue with the boards slipping on the braid. Sent from my SM-G970U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  16. There are some fish that look smaller they they weigh. The 24 pounder is a tank and looks like it should weigh more. Great fish! Sent from my SM-G970U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  17. And the pictures. This was a trip with my brother and his family.
  18. There was finally a couple of adults in the boat with me which allowed me to take better notes on my trip. We fished from 6 am - 1 pm, but didn't have a hit after 9:03. We started in 80 FOW and slowly worked southwest. The fish were deep...80+ feet down. We worked out to 180, back into 130 and back out to 160 again. We saw some good suspended marks about 100 down in 150 to 170 FOW but didn't have any takers. Most of our hits came north of the sand dunes. One was off the dunes. We fished south to the point. Here's what worked: Time FOW Toll Fish Bait Pole 6:28 AM 109 SESW 10# King Green/Glow spin doctor & meat Wire heavy slide diver, #2 setting out 190 6:35 AM 114 SW 14# King Big green glow plug w/ black ladderback SWR Rigger down 80' 7:23 AM 134 S 12# King Green/Glow spid doctor & meat Wire heavy slide diver, #2 setting out 190 8:05 AM 134 SW 20# King Double glow plug (plain) Rigger down 110 9:03 AM 148 S 19# King Green haze paddle & meat 300 Cu + 6 oz Dive Bomb For those of you viewing on a phone, the above table looks horrible so this might look better: Time FOW Toll Fish Bait Pole 6:28 AM 109 SESW 10# King Green/Glow spid doctor & meat Wire heavy slide diver w/ring, #2 setting out 190 6:35 AM 114 SW 14# King Big green glow plug w/ black ladderback SWR Rigger down 80' 7:23 AM 134 S 12# King Green/Glow spid doctor & meat Wire heavy slide diver w/ring, #2 setting out 190 8:05 AM 134 SW 20# King Double glow plug (plain) Rigger down 110 9:03 AM 148 S 19# King Green haze paddle & meat 300 Cu + 6 oz Dive Bomb The 300 Cu is the longest rod I have in my boat and I know I needed to get deeper so I added a 6 oz Dive bomb about 25 feet in front of the copper. I put about 40' of line out between the board and the dive bomb. (So Pole --> Board --> 40' of Braid --> Dive Bomb --> 25' of braid --> 300 Cu --> Fluorocarbon --> Meat rig.) This particular copper setup doesn't have 2 color colors of lead after the copper. This setup is working for those deeper fish and has taken 1 fish each of my last 3 trips. We just couldn't find them after 9:03. Maybe they were deeper than 180 or shallower than 130. We didn't target trout. Here's what didn't work: 200 Cu: Carbon 14 and a magnum orange and green Moonshine spoon 250 Cu: Green Jeans, Yeck Wart Frog, NBK, 5 Eyes 300 Cu + 4 oz dive bomb: Green & Chrome spin doctor & meat High Braid Slide Divers out 300, 220, 150 and 140 with Green Knight and Wonder bread spoons Low wire heavy slide divers out 190 and 210 with a slightly darker green and glow spin doctor and meat Various paddles and flies on the chute rigger. Most hits were between 1.9 and 2.2 mph at the ball with one coming at 2.4. Did try speeds up to 2.7. The water was so warm that we didn't run anything above a 200 Cu. Pictures to follow in the comments.
  19. I am spoiled with the days I fish. My job gives me that flexibility. I wait for the forecast to be waves less than a foot and then I go. I get enough fishing in that way and I'm not thrown around. Nice fish!
  20. Hey....when you're good, you're good! Nice job. Sent from my SM-G970U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  21. I talked to several people who fished Friday and most had only one or two hits. There were still some kings getting caught, but the four people I talked to had a box of 0 to 2 fish. We will be out on Sunday. Sent from my SM-G970U using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
