  1. My friend who recently moved out of state said the day before he left that there are 56 true sportsmen in the state of michigan and tomorrow there will be 55. Kevin you're definitely one of the 55.
  2. Thanks you so much for the reports. We went out tonight but got a late start. We hit the pier heads and w/ the growing wind and the chop. Turned right around.
  3. Start with a 45# copper 300. Its the most popular. It catches a lot of fish. After that, I'd also pick up a cheap downrigger 2nd hand. We only run 1 rigger. Its by far the best rod to catch fish on because its just you and the fish. They're not the hottest rod but when you get one on it. Its great. Then i'd switch one of your dipsys over to a wire dipsy. After that i'd just do what works best for you. If the wire dipsy works really well, add another. If the copper is best. add more coppers. etc etc.
  4. I ordered from FISHUSA and they sent me 3 of what I ordered instead of 2. I emailed them because its an internet company and that's how most of them work. They replied back and told me to keep it. Why should I trust some random guy on the internet who's first post is attacking some company over $20? For all I know you could have slammed that rod in your car door. BTW, others with lifetime warranties charge more.
  5. 4-4 is a great day with a 4 rod spread. Thanks for the south haven reports!
  6. That's a really nice first fish for someone. Thanks for the report.
  7. 3 for 5. 2 on a 300 copper - mixed veggies (kings) 1 on a 150 copper - moonshine blue jeans. (steelhead) 75-83 fow 2.4-2.6 mph The kings were 14 pounds and 12.5 pounds (very active fighters) The steelhead was 6.5 pounds We broke off the 150 copper next to the swivel right next to the boat and lost the blue jeans spoon. Definitely got some teeth marks on the line. It was brand new line. We also had a hit on a dark green spin doctor & fly on the rigger down 79 feet. Southwest troll caught the first one. North east troll had the other 2 plus the bite/break off. We were straight out & south of town. Oh, the kings had really good size eggs in them. I got half a gallon of eggs. I thought it was a little early for eggs. Apparently, not the case.
  8. Are jawbreakers those spoons that looks like there are flies on them too? Thanks for the report.
  9. Thanks for the report. I'll take one nice king over a box of lakers anyday.
  10. I just tie whatever comes out of the package to a swivel and call it good. We've had to retie one about 5 times before it was lost and it caught fish at all lengths. As for speed. EH, that's all on the day. One thing to do is to put your flasher/fly in the water and make sure it looks right. I prefer a mixture of paddles and spin doctors. I really like the action the big weenie style flashers give off. Saying that, I down own any big weenie paddles just a very old one that is just a precursor to it. They're not carried locally so I haven't bought any big weenie ones. If I was just starting out i'd probably start there. Now, as for flies. I prefer to put a meat rig on the flasher/spin doctor instead of a fly.
  11. Sorry you didn't get any replies. I have zero knowledge of betsie and platte. I use 10lb test to river fish. I'd guess most guys use 8lb. I mainly fish using floating spawn sacks off of the bottom. If I was you i'd go find some experienced guy fishing the local rivers that is willing to talk. You'll shorten the learning curve really quick that way.
