  1. If the EPA would get off their back, wouldn't need to spend taxpayer dollars. There is far more damage to the great lakes from agricultural run off and sewage overflows from cities but that is all OK.
  2. Nice catch, would be nice if the fish came inshore for a while this spring.
  3. That's a big steelie, nice job!
  4. Nice job, the king fishing is sure off to a good early start this year.
  5. The fish are going good at St Joe right now out front of the piers and a few miles either way. That might not last a lot longer but there is some good fishing close to port right now. Holland has been real good offshore. The hot ports change as the season moves on. Ludington, Manistee and Frankfort are generally real good in July and August but Grand Haven and Muskegon can get hot too. Ports like South Haven, Saugatuck, Whitehall and Onekama don't get a lot of press but they can be good with less crowds too. Use the info from the reports on this forum and be flexible, go where the fish are biting good.
  6. Thanks for the info Mike, some good news for us indeed. Hope the fish have a great spawn this spring.

    St. Joe

Nice catch at the slowest part of the day.
  8. That is about the slowest time of the whole season on Lk Mich. Steelhead fishing can be good out of both ports if the lake sets up with temp breaks offshore. It doesn't set up good for this every year. At this point in time, I'd say it is coin toss between Frankfort and Manistee for mid June. If you have time to wait, hold off till a week before to finalize your trip and you'll have a better idea on what is going on at each port. If you are charter fishing, most of the fleet does not be booked solid in June so you should be able to get a boat on short notice.
  9. Good catchin! Thanks for the report.
  10. Thanks Mike, we needed a steelie. Hard to tell in the pic but the 2nd and 3rd from the right on top are both browns.
  11. Thanks for the report Grant.
  12. Yes, we let her catch most of them. She's my buddies daughter and been fishing with us she was was 5 years old. Breanne is 22 now.
  13. I nominate this for one of the best threads so far this year.
  14. Gotta love kings like that this time of year, nice job!
  15. Thanks for the report.
  16. That's a good start to the season for you!
  17. Oops, fixed the date. Here are some pics: We started outside of the pack beyond the muddy water and in the green water in front of the piers and trolled north in 45 to 50 ft of water. Had a steady pic for 3-1/2 miles, didn't fight the boats and got some nice kings. We turned and headed back for the pier heads but still stayed on the outside of the pack. Seemed to be more small fish directly in front of the piers and bigger fish to the north. We released 7 small fish today and had a few dinks in the box that were hooked too bad and got all the small ones near the piers. The better kings were to the north. We got back near the piers on a south troll and had 18 fish in the cooler. Made a turn north finished our limit quickly. Our best for kings was a streak mag green dolphin on a 30 ft rigger and on a full core. A mag SS chili pepper on a 7 color. A green and chrome thin fin was best on the coho's clean on a board back 75 ft. We had a dw mixed veggie spoons go good both on hi divers out 60, lows out 50. A streak sister sledge was also good on a rigger down 25. A half core and jelly bean stinger took a few. The fish were snapping and I don't think spoon colors mattered that much. Good luck if you can get out this week!
