  1. thanks Aaron, I mostly fish out of PS, I work in Hudsonville so alot of times I just bring the boat to work and leave from there.
  2. Just looks so peaceful - and I'm stuck here at work. Come on Spring.....
  3. what is the fishing like in the Cleveland area - I have just set my boat up for Lake MI, but I have a job interview in the Cleveland area. may be looking to move. I hear alot about Walleyees, what about Kings, Steelhead, Lakers?
  4. Hey Ken - I been with Allstate - no issues - they covered my lower end and some electronics a few years back. I do keep a Boat US membership just for towing. did come in hand when the lower unit went out. 2 miles out between GH & Muskegon in 3-5 footers - could not get anyone to come back out for a tow. ended up having the tow boat out of Muskegon come tow us in. would have been a $500 bill, for only $50. I tried to get Meemic to cover the boat under my auto/homeowners - but Allstate gave me a better deal and it insured year around.
  5. Mike, not sure what Jeff has in mind, but maybe pulling a random photo out of the gallery and posting it on the home page.
  6. Ludington - Chucks - Grill at the dock - Boat
  7. Welcome to the site. If I were going to spend time family and Fish, I would look to Pentwater:), Ludington:), or Grand Haven all have a lot for the family to do - (the 1st two would be my primary choice to get more of the UP North feel:grin:) what to target - depends on your time of the year - keep checking the site's reports as you get close to your trip. that will give you a starting point for depth and tackle choice. if you are coming mid summer just be ready to go deep. good luck,
  8. For all you Grand Rapids area folks - FYI - I stoped at the Outdoorsmen yesterday to pick up a couple Church Boards for spring - they were out - but I was told that March 4-5-& 6th they would be having their spring tackle sale. and the Church boards would be one of the sale items. no I'm not promoting for the store, but if we all can save a few bucks - lets help each other out.
  9. I did the pull and wash thing for the 1st 5 years - it was a PITA. plus the boat was in Grand Haven - it was nasty after just a couple of weeks. I went and did the bottom paint and it was a great time saver. I did it myself right on the trailer, just used a 10Ton bottle jack to lift each side a couple of inches. worked great.
  10. nice v-clip on youtube of Ludville.
  11. Call it Winter blues, to much time on the weekend in February, or just planning for a great summer. I had a couple times last summer after a few barely pops:p, trying to recall :confused:what lure we had down on each rod. Now I did not keep a log last summer, but I do plan on keeping one for this coming. Picture of log Logs are great, but the way I setup my sheet would be fish caught, not what is in the water or has been in the water. So, I took pictures of each spoon, flasher, dodger, & j-plug that I currently own. I printed those out in color and laminated the sheets to help protect them from the weather. Each item is about ½ to ¾ wide and 2†long. I glued a piece of sheet magnet to the back side of each picture. I store the magnetic picture sheet with the lure. I bought a 9x14†magnetic white board for $6 My plan is to use the white board as reminder of what is in the water. Since it is a white board I could also quick write the time that lure went into the water. Its big enough to read, yet small enough to fit up on the dash. this is what happens when an Engineer who learns to fish...
  12. Mike- you and the family will really enjoy SH lots more to do with the family if you spend the weekend out on the boat. Muskegon is a great place to store your boat & to fish from. but not much for the family to do. enjoy
  13. Boat comes out of storage 4-5 weeks - need about 2-3 weeks of prep work on boat. hope to see water by 1st or 2nd week in April. the snow could not leave soon enough. boat prep - install hi line trees. going to rip up most carpet in the cabin and put down hard wood floor. all the rods are ready to go. Tackle boxes ready. planner boards modified. come on spring.......
  14. finding the temp break is what I really am missing. like ken stated I'm ok when he is with me and I have his pocket temp gage. I just have not been able to find a gizmo like his.
  15. Well I think I might just hold out for one more season. went without one last summer (1st year) about a dozen trips out I was able to haul in 60+ fish and only had one skunk. we did watch the wire on the riggers and the bend in our divers. if this works again, I'll stick to the old school. I already have two FF on board so that should help.
  16. nice ride Doug, you will enjoy it.
  17. All right, I have been reading "Keating on Kings" now for the past two days. the one thing that he states over and over again temp & depth, temp & depth. this is the biggest thing I am missing for my spring slaughter of kings, a depth, speed & temp sytem. So with that, I'm think the next major investment needs to be a depth temp and speed system. Now - I have read alot of post already on the site. what is going to give me the biggest bang for my bucks. a used Fish Hawk 840? a new Fish Hawk X-4? Sub-Troll? (from what I read I like this unit the best) a used Cannon? The new & improved Cannon? Depth Raider? so I either need to add this type of a system or just get on the radio and beg for information on the temp break.
  18. I to enjoyed the sale. I did pick up an older penn 209, wish now I bought two.
  19. I think you would want to use a Tung oil. that will give is a gloss look, but if you want to brighten up the teak I would wipe down the teak first with a 2/3 hot water / 1/3 Bleach mix. that should remove any grease/ wax build up first or Denatured Alcohol. (just don't drink it Ken) just my thoughts on this. or you can get products at West Marine to clean and seal. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearchView?jspStoreDir=wm51&catalogId=10001&Ne=712&N=377+710+1002&langId=-1&omniTag=Category%3aPaint%2c+Varnish+%26+Teak+Oil&section=shop&Nr=AND%28Record+Type%3aPRODUCT%2cStore%3aWESTMARINE%29&storeId=10001&page=CategoryDisplayLevel1

  22. Now thats hard core - " I Really need to get out of the house " Stuff. it was cold enought that I left a couple of beers outside of the garage door and it split the cans open.
  23. alignments not tough, just needs to be right. I have a Merc - 5.7l to Alpha I I did checked mine and had to do a small adjusment when I put on a new outdrive 5 years ago. a co-worker had an alignment shaft already. he had made his own at the shop we worked at. this link will show you what an alignment tool will look like. http://www.mercstuff.com/images/modification.jpg
  24. thanks Frank, I've had her for 14 year now, 2 years ago tried to sell to get out of boating, then last year I fished with Ryan just once, look what happened, she went from being the family camper to a fishing machine. the gps I bought last season was my first. I had the fish finder only for depth.
  25. you see in my dash not much room for a big screen GPS, from left to right Radio, GPS, Fish Graph
