  1. Holland 4-12-17 PM N II Deep Shake-Down Great night out for a shakedown trip. Alex and Jim Bobber tagged along for the 1st trip of the year, thanks guys left dock about 5:45 back at pier head by sunset. We ran straight out of Holland and sat down in 198 just inside a few other boats and headed W - SW SOG 2.6 - 2.8 Hot rod of the night 7 color with a Silver Streak Mini copper back Orange White (will post pic later of spoons) Went 3 times 2- coho 1-long skinny Steelhead. 3 color went once similar spoon 150 copper went once another orange / copper back spoon riggers never went, did not run any divers. Boat ran as it should, nice and smooth.
  2. I switched all of my copper / lead cores over to these rods. http://www.basspro.com/Offshore-Angler-Power-Plus-Trophy-Class-Boat-Conventional-Rod/product/2231540/ have yet to break one. I had three of the Okuma GL rods break, one rigger & two copper.
  3. same as flies,, Noodle, with slit . put the paddle in the slit and wrap the fly or meat rig around the noodle.
  4. Holland DNR gate was open to fish cleaning station on Sunday, not sure if they had the water and power on.
  5. Wow, new item just added to my bucket list "spring trip to Lake 'O' Thanks for sharing the pictures.
  6. that was a cut and paste from the USCG Aux web site, but yes they will look at your batteries. from what I understand is not to have the terminals connections exposed, so it limits the chance of dropping a metal object across the terminals and create a spark down in the engine compartment.
  7. Boat tags - Check Fishing license - Check Plus it's a good time to do a full safety review. Life Jackets Registration and numbering Navigation lights Ventilation Fire extinguishers Distress signals (flares, horn, etc.) Battery cover and connections The USCG Aux usually has a weekend in April when they will come dock side in Holland to preform a safety check and you get a nifty sticker for your window. When I see a date I will post. http://www.cgaux.org/vsc thanks Kevin for posting this.
  8. thanks Terry for the report. I hope to be in the water in about 3 weeks.
  9. Nice job Kevin, 23 days or less for me. the wellcraft need a wash and wax, just waiting for warmer weather to do that outside. just save some Brown's for the rest of us.
  10. updated Bump. I know many here in West Michigan use this tool. let's make sure it is in the water when the season gets started. https://www.gofundme.com/psbuoy
  11. good luck Captain, looking more like mid April here in west Michigan.
  12. Ann did the canvas on my Fourwinns and did a great job.
  13. Nice job Bob, 3 months and we all can start splashing blood around the back of our boats.
  14. I do not. have not had any issue, just break the rod down reel up tight and leave drag just tight enough to keep it in place.
  15. I run 4 of the Convector 30's with Bloodrun wire. going on 5 seasons now with no issues.
  16. I bought an after market drive from these folks years ago for the fourwinns. 10 years no issues http://www.sterndrive.cc/ the gear ratio needs to be the same and it relates to the HP of your motor. you adjust high end / low end speed with the prop pitch.
  17. I did not have mine checked, but it was noted by the owner that stringers were redone, and you could see that they were done. I did google for a Survey company and this is one of the sites that pop'd up. http://www.beaconmarinesurveyor.com/index.html I know nothing about this company, but it did have a lot of good information on the site.
  18. I run a 32' wellcraft. It's an 87. You need to have the stringer's check. Mine were repaired already. It take rough seas with no problem. Really liked the living space below so it doubleshould as our cottage. Rest of item's I had issues with are normal maintenance plugs wires cap rotor transmission clutch plates.
  19. Good Job to all the teams that fished. Looking forward to the next event in Holland.
  20. those are fun projects, looks good Frank and will keep giving you years of service. I re-powered a 79' Gravely back in 2001 - had the same things to deal with. but when it's done you have a product that will out last the big box store sheet-metal toy tractors. I still use mine, year around as I have the mower deck, snowblower, tiller, and power broom.
  21. I did buckets for one season - it worked ok, but not as well as a set of good bags. Storage was a pain, they took up too much space on the boat when they were not in the water. I bought a set from Dick Boyajian 4 years ago and they are still in great shape. Used them 2 seasons on the 24' Fourwinns, and 2 years on the 32' Wellcraft. I bought a 36" set and I can get the Wellcraft down to 1.6 if needed. Most the time I only run one on the same side as what every motor I'm running while trolling. This puts me at 2.2 at a dead idle 700 RPM and 2.5 @ 1000 rpm. The bags are vinyl coated canvas - very well built. I would stay away from the Nylon bags as most that I have seen used only last about one season before they are torn to shreds. check out this thread on bags - it has a couple sources for bags, plus contact information for Dick Boyajian.
