  1. I tend to wait until the water is "soft" again. Once a year we get the itch and go drink some beer, but since we don't have fish finders and nice setups, we typically just go dril one or two holes, set up a tent and drink.
  2. Not sure when they pull them, but depending on your baot size there are other options in Holland that are more "permanent"...but it may be a longer boat ride to the big pond.
  3. So first I want to be clear - I DID NOT get this deer - the neighbor did. I just thought everyone here would enjoy the picture/story. So, I've been seeing lots of bucks behidn the house. I've been sitting out with my son in the box blind. It's nice because it has the heater, it's quiet and he can move (William is 3). Mostly he plays on his ipod and watches movies while I watch the field. Occassionally I get in a lesson about moving your eyes, not your head while looking for deer - and we have to be quiet - I think I get that lesson in about 50 times a night. So, we've been seeing deer, but all at distance outside bow/crossbow range. A buddy at work has put 4 down already this year so I start talking to him mid week last week and decide to join him Saturday morning up in Greenville to get a "guaranteed" deer down and in the freezer. So, Saturday I meet him at work at 4:00, we head to ihop for prehunt breakfast and planning. We get up in the tree at about 5:30 and I have to say, it was a gorgeous spot. The deer normally filter down the hill in front of me (fresh with like 4 huge rubs) and go toward the swamp behind me. Well....we are sitting there for a few hours, daylight comes, no deer. Suddenly I hear a "swack" behind me and turn and look and he has killed number 5. Deer was apparently down wind of me for an hour or so and the guy was trying to wait until it came over to me...it didn't. She started to turn into the swamp so he decided to do me a favor and help me put some meat in the freezer... Thanks buddy. We are cleanign the deer and I get a txt from my buddy at home. The neighbor (not 500 yards from the box blind) shot the monster below, while I was up in Greenville. Ahhhhh Karma. I had a great time in the woods - really it was a gorgeous morning. Got to spend some time with a buddy, and overall had a great weekend. But....MAN, would I have liked to see this bad boy in real life.
  4. I've had all great experiences with Big Jon.
  5. Yacht Basin is the place, for a boat your size, you may want to consider the docks down on the west end - even have grass out front and a nice gazebo - also can see the pool from there, if you know what I mean.
  6. WOW, that's a silver pig...nice work and thanks for the report.
  7. Welcome to the site Kris...love your catch phrase/user name.
  8. That second image is gorgeous....great day on the water...almost makes me wish I was not hanging from a tree in the woods.
  9. Nice job and thanks for the post...I'm sure you will like the site...guys are very helpful.
  10. Those are not perch, those are baby walleye...NICE.
  11. I may have been a year off - 3 and big 4s this year (as opposed to 4 and big 5s)....but this is really helpful information...lots of great ideas here.
  12. The big boys you see this year are because they (the 4 years olds) didn't run last year and now they are 5 year olds...pretty uncommon. The summer was sooooo warm last year that the run just didn't happen like it normally does. So the 19lber that you caught last year is the 25-30lber this year.
  13. We didn't fish a ton this year with a new baby girl at the house, but we did get out on average about every other weekend. We boxed our biggest to date 27.5lbs on a rigger. We caught a few others (maybe 2 or 3) in the 20lb range - one I know was 21.5. There sure were a lot of big fish out there this year. Fewer fish caught than last year, but much bigger.
  14. That time of year...sounds like our summers were similar...new daughter on 6-6-2013 kept me at home more this summer, but I wouldn't change a thing.
  15. SWEEEEEET...can't wait to get the first with my kids (now 3 years old and 3 months old)..My 3 year old sits in the box blind with me, but pretty much just snacks and watches movies on the ipod...hehehe... Nice job Haylie.
  16. Tomorrow...tomorrow...I kill some doe tomorrow with my muzzle load er. Everyone sing along..
  17. Way to go...Great color on those fish. Ahh Muskegon...I miss fishing there...great fishery...great channel.
  18. Nice job Mike...I especially appreciate what you used to catch them. I was going to txt u you yesterday...Gold Coast has a scale and I believe they are open on Sundays...but maybe I'm wrong.
  19. Terry, call me...dad had to do this on the big boat and has a pump to do it...he's coming down tomorrow to pull the boat out of the water.
  20. Running boards on any chanel should be illegal...I know it's just plain inconsiderate.
  21. Ed, thanks for sharing on here. I saw this too....great thing to do by a nice locally rooted company.
  22. Just asking for anwers, but I guess you answered in your own way, which kinda proves what most people have been saying. Nice photoshop job.
  23. Saw that too....not a great weekend for off shore attempts if they are even close to right. You might get a few hours in Saturday morning, but the ride home is going to suck.
