Hello, Purchased a Hewescraft hardtop sea runner late last year that came with a Lowrance Elite FS 9 at the helm, NAC1 Auto Pilot w/ sea star hydraulic steering. Got the boat out once before winter hit hard; (did have to bust through some ice at huron to get onto erie!) the auto pilot worked great making steering adjustments from the HMI inputs on the Lowrance. Decided I wanted a Lowrance mounted at the business end to be able to make auto pilot steering adjustments out back.. IYKYK. Installed a 12" Elite FS at the helm and moved the 9" out back with just power and ethernet between the two units. The 12' at helm has the transducer and NMEA network connected from a splitter. Everything syncs and works except autopilot on the 9", ALL works on the 12" now at the helm. The aft lowrance connected by only ethernet states no autopilot computer. Is it just a NMEA 2000 I'm missing to the 9" or is it a configuration setting that I am missing? Thanks in advance for any help. If you are familiar with these systems, please let me know if you need more info to provide input.

Good afternoon. Question for those of you that enjoy fishing solo: What is your best practice for netting a feisty salmon when you're by yourself? Long rod +long leaders + long landing net + feisty fish = Early Release?

Hello, and happy spring! My name is Brian, aka "biggerfish". I grew up in Chicago, but not once fished Lake Michigan for salmon - didn't even know it was a thing back then... Fast forward 30+ years...I've lived in Washington State for 26 years, and have been fishing salmon (and other species) hardcore for 20 of them. Here's a few photos of my ride up here on Orcas Island. Hoping to learn some new tricks from you old dogs...

Nice job , we were down there yesterday also from 8am to 1pm with the same result. Hopefully the lake clears up some in the next week or so.

Set up by the power plant around 11 am. Found 50 degree water and marked fish but after 2 hours of no bites we decided the next to nothing for visibility wasn't going to work. Moved out to 100 for and the visibility was still less than 3 feet. Tried out there for a few hours and got 2 coho on the brads thin fish red squiggles. Also had a lake trout snap on a modified blue dolphin mag near bottom, but didn't stay on long. Boat worked great and managed to burn a decent amount of last years gas off.

One ramp is in at both Holland and Port Sheldon. They are pushed far in to accommodate for the low water access. Watch your props when you leave the docks. Port Sheldon is really showing alot more shoreline protruding. Check the pictures. 6 trailers were in the lot at Holland. None at PS. Though it did look like one boat broke the skim ice there much earlier. Anyone going out there, let us know how the channel is? Sent from my SM-A156U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app

A good friend and my self made our annual combo trip to Portage Indiana for perch and coho . Fishing was nothing short of outstanding, we left the ramp around 8:30 and headed off shore to the perch grounds , about half way out to them we ran into some very thick fog but continued on and fished our perch limit with some very nice jumbo around 10:30. After that we headed straight south to the Gary light and made one pass from just west of the light east ,to the end of the wall and finished with our limit of good sized coho , all on custom painted thin fins from Silver streak ran clean back 75’ off the boards ,speed was 2.5-2.9, water temp was 36.0 to 36.9 . All done and back to the trailer by 1:30. Dang I love early season perch and coho down there. Here is a picture of the boats , and some of the catch.

The political wheels are turning slow on this legislation. Not going to happen this year it looks like. Blows my mind that something introduced in early November 2025 can’t pushed through and implemented before March 31, 2026. To many vacation days apparently -
the Most rods Ive run is 21 with 6 charter customers on board, it was a flat calm day and the fishing was slow. If you have time to run that many rods, you're not on fish. I now have a 22' Hewescraft, and I can't wait to run 12 rods, that's more than enough to dial them in. I didn't realize you'd need the stamp to possess salmon and trout though. Kind of means all anglers on the lake will be getting it.

Dumb guy confession well I checked out my slide diver and viewed the diagram for the proper rigging an discovered that I needed to turn the base around so the weight was in the forward position. Amazing how it worked properly when rigged correctly! With my standard Alaska dodger and spinner it pulled the rig down to 30 feet with a 60 ft setback at 2.5 mph with the diver set to go straight back. One problem is that the diver slipped back at that speed so I need to followup on some of the suggestions I have read on this forum.
