jdh Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Worked 70-100 trolling for an hour and went 1-2, king on a meat rig. Then switched to try mooching. Had about a dozen follows but no takes. Trolling again. Just took one king in 125 fow. Working out deeper. Bait vanished on us. We were in 60 fow and screen was blank. 1
2MD Posted August 7 Posted August 7 PUG struggled to get his magic gusto tonight - full boat and fun crowd - very inexperienced but with that super appreciative which made it super fun@ 4for5 in that 68-95fow there was no targetable depth or pattern for us unlike this AM still beautiful moon and thankful to have gone 4 of our 5 bites came on hi dipsey 160 and 180 out with spinnies nothing on long lines rigger with bloody nose took a big one after sunset 5
jdh Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Worked the night bite and found fish at 100 fow around midnight. Went 4/5, pulled lines at 1:15 am, after clouds hit the moon. Mag moonshine spoons. Divers back 55, 150 copper. 3
2MD Posted August 7 Posted August 7 this rocks JDH! so tell us a little more... you started fishing at around midnight and took bites until around 1am? How far down? You attributed it to the fuller moon? Any specifics or theories you got would be appreciated because always wanted to figure this out better.
2MD Posted August 7 Posted August 7 nvm- ok so I can see from your report they were all top 50 foot. I guess I was just wondering if they magically turned on at around midnight or what. Very impressive
Lef T Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Good job on the night bite guys. Thanks for the play by play FBD. I'll have to try that some time. Mooching is like jigging right? I think my dipsey rods are Okuma mooching rods. I wouldn't want to jig with those. That would wear you out. Nice job with the church crew 2MD. Pug must have been worn out after the morning run. Do you ever sleep Ryan? You posted 6 hours ago and again 2 hours ago. I've had two naps today after fishing this morning. Just after the last full moon we were launching at Port Sheldon and a boat was just pulling out at 5:30 am. I asked if he had boat trouble and he said he was just finishing fishing. They started trolling at 10pm and trolled until 5am. I've always heard the fish bite all night during the full moon. It's coming up on the 9th. I'm not gonna try it. I might get out earlier in the morning though.
FBD Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 No picture of the last king it came in towing the wire and slide divers. Was actually quite docile until it got 50’ behind the boat… 1
FBD Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 So last night I launch kid on a jet ski is telling me where to park. I always park here. I know it sucks to work around your Jeep. Ok, whatever. Asks me how long I’ve been using the launch. Let’s say since I moved from the north side to the south side long enough ago that a ranch house, 32x60 barn and a two story horse barn on five acres cost $138k. Blink. Ok let’s try again. Longer than you’ve been alive the boat is a 1994 model and I bought it new. So I park where he told me to. Get back there’s a note in my windshield saying this is private property try this again and get towed. Thanks dude. Don’t listen to Jet Ski owners. So after the long walk to the Jeep and reading the note I come back to the launch. Now the boat is gone. I hear voices in the dark like yo Kevin and I’m like how long did it take for you to drift far enough off shore that you didn’t notice, that what would have been an easy jump and one wet shoe, is now a bigger issue? So these guys are smart and have a cell phone light so I’m yelling instructions into the void. See that lever on the side flip it up. There’s like three. One with a flat plastic knob. Got it. Pull motor towards you and then drop it slowly. It won’t move. There’s a grip on the cowl. The what? The cover. Ok click thunk. Good. Throw the same lever back. New lever on the front with a tag wire around it put that as vertical as possible that’s the gear selector you want neutral. Done. Pull the cord. What cord? Oh the t handle at the top. Soon the motor starts. Are you pointed at me? No. Ok flip the wire lever back and twist the rubber handle gently. Soon the boat comes backing up into view. Now they say I should have pulled the boat up farther on the beach which has merit but come on. At least they were in the boat had the bailed out and let it drift away that would have been interesting… 2
zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Quite the adventure. Glad everything worked out in the end.
