  1. Tom is correct, the search is a great way to find stored info. I'm stuck at home from a post hernia operation, so I'll be glad to answer. Lead core is a strand of lead wrapped with a braided Dacron line. A full core of it is Ten- 10 yard sections (300'). The most common size used is the 36 pound. You will need a big reel for a full core and it's backing (I use a AD57LC by Daiwa). No special poles are required. The advantages of it are; Stealth presentation, ability to target fish away from the boat, and the ability to run additional lines with out a bunch of expense. You can run a core line straight behind the boat, but I would not recommend it. The best way to run it is; let the core out, clip a Church Walleye board to it and let it run off to the side. If you are running Divers, make sure you are outside of them. A full core will run about 40' deep. I have my best luck on the core first/last light, or when the water is cold (fish will be in the top water when it's cold). I run spoons and plugs behind my cores, but many run flasher/fly combos. The reason for not running the core straight out the back is, The rigger fish have a tendency to cross it and tangle. Also if you use a board, you can run them off each side. Mike is correct, all of us here loves to fish and help the others that are learning. This was a lead core fish taken off Whitehall last summer. Good luck, Ken.
  2. I love how she just stands there and eats grass. Sweet video though, thanks for sharing.
  3. Tony, The camera is a Canon 40D, More important though is the lens, it's a 100-400 mm canon L. the shot was at the 400mm fl. cropped to size. Photography is my other expensive hobby. ken.
  4. I slipped out last night in the frigid cold to get a few shots of the January Moon. The first is the rise, the blur is caused by heat and refraction. It was -2 deg when I took the second.
  5. Some how this, (taken last night at 11:30 on Campbell Lake) Doesn't compare to this. The Fishing shows help, but they are not the cure.
  6. Last year my son and I where Salmon fishing in St Ignace. We where having little luck. We took one of those baits, rigged it like the pic., and put it behind a flasher. We soon had the one and only fish of the day on it.
  7. WTG Terry, It's been a great year for Ice Fishing.
  8. If your rod is long enough and boat has enough room try increasing the length of one of you diver to flasher leads. Try 8' and see if it makes a difference. I had one trip last year where I ran this flasher fly combo on each side of the boat. One had a 22+- lead from flashed to fly end. The other had 30+- length.(it's a 10" flasher) After the 22 got three fish, I pulled the 30 in and shortened it. Very soon after it took a fish. Both where down in the same zone. Sometimes small things make big differences. I also second what Jason said, Sigs Rigs flys catch fish. Quite often as the sun is setting I switch my diver to Moonshine lures. (we mainly fish the evenings). Good Luck, Ken.
  9. What are you running behind your divers Joe? Three combos for success behind you divers. 1, White flasher with green fly 2, Green flasher with green fly 3, Blue flasher with Blue fly. (Best for deep fish) Run your leader behind your diver as long as possible. 22-24" lead from flasher to fly. #1 #2 #3
  10. I've been Ice fishing out in front of my house the last week or so (Campbell Lake). The fishing has been fantastic. From what I here though it's been good all over. I've been using Fiskas jigs and .005 sewing tread (this is a great combination), with Mouses on them. I took the camera with me for a quick couple photos tonight. As you can see in this shot the fish are stacked up from 18 to 14'. Here's a shot of the jigs and tread. The jigs are made of tungsten, so they are heaver than lead jigs. (Gander has them) the tread was bought at a fabric store.
  11. Jason, as far as the reels go don't buy any thing less than a Okuma 30D Convector (new style), around $75.00. The Convectors have big cranking handles and descant drags. If you want to go first class than go for Shimano Tekota 600 lc., around $170.00 You will be very happy with wire. I've hit bottom in 230 fow using wire and walker mag divers.
  12. Dan I couldn't agree with you more. The people MUCC got for there show have always been Class Acts. It started with Bob and has kept pace seance. The show I recall was most likely the second of the bunch, around 87 or 88. Fred-Well!, Fred was Fred
  13. I still remember that piece you did with Michigan Out doors (or was it with Fred) way back 15+ years below the dam there. I got so excited we (my uncle and I) drove there and got skunked.
  14. Mike, there is a concrete block surround around the window. There are many cracks in the mortar joints. When I grabbed this guy there where at least 9 more. I put him back outside last night, and this morning they where all gone. My guess is they all went into the cracks. Playing with the camera gives me something to do in the off season.
  15. I found this little (about 1" long) guy outside the basement window with all the rain and warm air yesterday. I needed to practice my macro photography skills, and he made a good candidate.
  16. We where over to my Mothers house in Hastings yesterday for the family Christmas. This little guy wanted to come in and join us. Merry Christmas all. let's not forget the reason for the season.
  17. The divers always get fish. Wire/mag diver/flasher/fly for deep fish. Braid/reg diver/flasher/fly for shallower fish. I don't keep a log of our fish, but the divers have always out produced the riggers.

    Afew pics.

Some have seen these from last year. The new guys may enjoy. Shot out the back window of a residential area this time last year.
  19. Nice job Jay. If the snow will stop falling and let the ice stiffen up, we might get to get out here also.
  20. The Marmooka jigs are killers for gills. I switched to transparent nylon swing tread a few years back. The tread and these jigs are fantastic.
