  1. I used to run 3 across the back when I had an i/o but now with an outboard It not worth the trouble like others have said. I have so many other options to get rods out between dipsy's and inline planers and planer boards. If I really need more riggers I could put 2 on the side along with the 2 I now have on the back corners.
  2. I use green and white spin n glo's off the riggers with no flasher. Just drag them 5 feet from bottom for lakers.
  3. I had a slickcraft. It was a great boat. I got rid of it as it had an OMC outdrive. The straight 6 165hp was a great motor as well in that boat.
  4. I have the Amish Beefy 24" buggy bags and they have worked great on a 22 Reinell.
  5. Mine are spray painted black but I may try the spray on coating as I too would like to protect the boat floors from the weights marking them.
  6. I have a big outboard now but have done it with a long arm Walker on my previous boat.
  7. Great story an I do not want to deflate it but you can't judge what a person drives. When I go fishing the brand new 2011 company car sits in the driveway and my wife sporty grand prix GT sits in the driveway and I use the 94 suburban with 300 k on it to pull the boat.
  8. A friend of mine has one. The cuddy is too big and it sits high and light on the front. On windy days trolling its like a sail and hard to keep straight in a cross wind. It has treated him well and we have fished many hours in it but I just bought a Trophy Walk around and just love it. I have lots of power ofn the trophy with a 175 merc but do agree that a lot of Bayliners are under powered. i had a day cruiser with a V8 before the trophy. His Sunbridge has the v6 4.3 liter but with 3 or 4 guys fishing someone has to go to the front of the cuddy to get it on plane.
  9. Agreed and the average person does not drive enough miles to justify the cost. If you do the math you are better off paying ofr a little extra gas.
  10. Sounds great. We usually fish Erieau this time of year but sold my boat a couple of weeks ago. Actually the fellow who bought it will be keeping it in the water there in a slip. I hope to pick up another boat that we just purchased by the weekend and if all goes well be back out to Erieau this coming weekend.
  11. I don't run any full cores (widow makers). If you run 3 to 5 cores you can run them shallow or off the riggers or weigh them down with torpedo divers to go beyond the depth of the core by itself. I find these more versitile and you don't need reels for every size of leadcore.
  12. I have some I still use for my riggers. They work great for me and the slow retrieve equals no horsing or lost fish for newbies and guests on my boat.
  13. I am using ultra lites as well for perch drop shot rigs. I use mono and have not tried braid but it sounds good. I have been using some of these rods for years and I would not worry about the weight. I use rods that I like for feel and tip and don't worry about the rest.
  14. Nice report and pics. I always enjoy my Big O trips.
  15. Yes for sure. The biggest one was 22 inches. I did not weigh them but most of the time the coho are 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds.
  16. Well between weather and work I have not done much fishing lately but it was great to get out with Bill a coworker today. We left out of Sarnia and set up around 8 AM in 25 Fow. We went 2 for 5 taking home these 2 in the photo. All 5 hits where on 5 colour leadcore off planer boards with small bodybaits. No hits on the riggers or spoons. Fishing till about 1:30.
  17. My choice would not be the cannonballs. Too much blowback. I believe you could do better with the 10lb sharks.
  18. I had that with my boat and feared the worst that it was hydro locked or seized. It was the starter. The little pinion gear got stuck out and jammed in the flywheel. Of course the motor would not turn and the starter just clicked. I pulled the starter and I could now turn the crankshaft with a johnson bar and socket. Got the starter rebuilt and all is well. No real damage to the flywheel. the pinion gear was shattered and had to make sure I found all the pieces.
  19. Agreed. Yes you can fish a 6 rod spread without them but you already have them. Getting rid of them won't help the spending to income ratio so ??
  20. Just spent 3 days on the water there in the BWA Salmon Derby with little to show for it. Water temps are still down this year. It depends what you are looking for and the time of year. 2 days ago we got a lot of COHO as we found warm water off stoney point. Went back yesterday nothing and water temp back down with wind and weather. If we can get some warm weather things may heat up in a little deeper water. A good spot will be betwwen the cans (coast guard bouys) off Kettle point 50 to 80 FOW for Kings and bows. Run along the beaches in 20 FOW will usually produce some Coho and small pinks.
  21. I have run them on a friends boat. Thay ran great late last fall running leadcore and torpedo divers behind them. And all inline's are way over priced if you ask me.
  22. I run mine off the mid ship cleats with the dump line off the back cleats. They do not and I am told should not be able to go under the boat. they run close to the boat and I have no problem neeting. Now i have high side on my boat. A more shollow boat may have more problem. But I can pull the dump line and have the bag in the boat in seconds if need be.
  23. First turn off the fish ID. You want to learn to read the marks and not let the finder interprit what it sees. Then you may ned to play with the sensitivity but you will see the thermocline as a false bottom. It will look like a bottom line say at 60 feet and yet you see your hard bottom line at say 200 feet. It varies from a faint line to looking like bottom.
