  1. Keep in mind this: the actual current is below the surface, the waves, are on top of the surface. So, does it always follow that the current and waves are in synchronization? Not really, and how do you tell? Watching your dropped rigger lines when set will mostly tell you the direction of the current. Say you are going downwind with the waves, most favor this troll if choppy. How are the lines looking? Are they swaying to one side or the other of the transom? Or are they swung way out? Or are they up tight to the transom? Try to project yourself into the fish to see where the best presentation is. And of course where you start marking and getting hits. Fishing, at least to me on the great lakes, is not all black and white rules, its science at it's finest, if you approach it that way. Another important factor is the speed of that current. Watch your fishhawk and observe the speed. I've seen the current pushing 2mph at one point, then, in less than 50 yards further, speed up to 4mph. The speed at the lure is ever important to presentation, and bites.
  2. Welcome to the GLF site Tim, and good luck chartering.
  3. Great loss, and so young yet. Praying for his family.
  4. I don't think you broke any terms of service here Kelly. Heck, we also post pictures of salt water fish, our canines, felines, stuff for sale, humorous jokes, gripes, hunting, firearms, and the like.
  5. Thanks for posting Ed. It's closure alright, with a lot of unanswered questions yet too. Time will tell.
  6. Nice brownie, looks like it's still winter though by the coat.
  7. Regarding that ground wire, most mfrs. equip the units with a very thin wire, not good. Change that to say a 14-16 gauge wire and try it, worked wonders for me.
  8. Thanks for sharing the muscle cars guys, love em too. Anyone look at them on ebay lately? There's a new sickness going on there by dealers that have eyes watching all the private sellers auctions 24/7. If the car is nice and listed below say $20K, they immediately buy it, then try to flip it right away for double or triple their investment. It's legal, but I say it's BS. The public that wants to bid it to a fair and affordable price gets cut out before the auction is 1-2 days old. Had this happen on 2 Novas, 2 GTO's, and a Bullitt Mustang since the new year. I set a budget of $15-20K, and see them relisted for $35-75K all the time nowadays. These cars only cost about $3K new. What a sham for someone that just would like to relive his youth and just drive the car for fun.
  9. They are pricey for sure, but, I haven't heard anyone complaining about them yet, and they've been out there for quite a while. No smoke, no fumes, and very quiet, sound like a sewing machine, and vastly improved performance in speed and mpg.
  10. Matt, just to clarify. I'm not talking about just the smell of booze/beer on someone in number one example. What I'm talking about is guys that have been drinking all night long, or most of it, and arrive in the morning drunk and not safe to fish. One time I found 5-6 guys upon 4:30am arrival scattered all over my boat passed out and severely intoxicated, even down in the cabin and my stateroom. I took them all out irregardless as they were repeat customers of good standing, and most passed out for the day anyhow and didn't cause any ruckus.
  11. Earlier in the season when the fish are medium sized I'd use 12-17#, later on when the big ones start showing up, change over to 20-25#. I use Berkeley XT mostly. Green or clear.
