Nice kings there, that really improves a coho fishing trip!

Got out for my last pier trip this weekend at St Joe. The gale blow last Friday slowed down the fishing. The load of coho's that were there all last week close to the pier dispersed. It was a slow pick through the morning. My buddies each got a nice brown. I got a couple smaller browns and a whitefish. Our total was 5 browns, 1 coho and 3 whitefish for 3 of us. The browns and coho hit spawn bags, the whitefish came on skein. Talked to a number of boats and they had from zero to 5, most had 1-3. Putting away the pier gear and getting my boat ready now, trolling is only going to keep getting better.

Nice catch! Next time, keep the laker and try a blind taste test against the browns or other salmonids. Make them the same way and don't let the tasters know which is which. You will be surprised at the results. I've done it a lot, lakers win almost every time.

Welcome Randall, Ludington is my summer port, we have a place in Tamarac.

We got some nice whitefish too. One of our best family fishing days ever. I had a 10 rod spread, now that was awesome on the pier. Here is our catch. Most came on steelhead skein on the bottom, got a few on crawlers and slip bobbers 8 ft down. Never got a fish on a spawn bag.

Been pier fishing the last few weeks on the south end of Lake Michigan since more of the Michigan piers have been iced in. That has changed for the better in the last week and a ton of ice has melted. The kids are on spring break and we decided to head south one more time with the entire family. The fish cooperated and we all had a blast. My girls caught all the fish and were catching and netting them on their own. I just baited rods and took the fish off. Seeing my girls in action made it one of the best days I've ever had on the pier.

Agreed, the conflict is spilling over from another site where it happens all the time. We won't let that happen here. Nothing major but a couple posts that were off topic are gone.

I know a lot of Lk Michigan trollers up and down the coast and I don't know anyone who runs those rigs. They used to sell a similar rig called a schooley for dragging off downriggers many years ago. I don't know anyone running them so they must not have worked very well or guys would be still be dragging them.

In smaller spots with limited access likes piers or tribs, it makes sense not to broadcast about them but I don't think you need to worry to much about the big lake. This place is not like the one you had issues with.
