  1. No slips but Covert Twnshp Campground was nice as is Van Buren State Park. Both fairly close to either St Joe or South Haven. There is a RV park in South Haven right next to the river by the Moose Lodge but dont think they have slips. I sure wish the did have more but my guess is the cost of riverfront property versus campground fees is the issue.
  2. Welcome to GLF. Where do u usually fish and what for??
  3. In front of dunes just south of south haven always seems to be good. Look for the packs. Never fished real early in season though.
  4. Do u have any others core or copper so as not to duplicate? I would definitely do the 2 wire dipsy's, u wont be let down. Wire is productive and awesome for the fight with no stretch. Time of year, water temps, depth, thermocline, preferred species all come into play for what is gonna work. Last year it was deep deep deep for me most of the year. I always have luck on my 150' 200' 250' 300' coppers. So i added a 50' and 100' copper for this year. I run 45# copper. Just depends on the day and conditions. I would say just try to spread them out as much as u can. If i had 3 core rods to make i would do a full core, 5 color and 3 color. The nice part of the shorter cores is that u can add weight to get them deeper. Dive bombs, torpedo weights, snap weights, etc. Just my .02 cents:) Im sure others will have different opinions.
  5. I agree Don. Wire dipseys are the shiznit. I prefer a little bit stronger backer on my copper. Most of mine are 30 but i like the 40 or 50lb test since i use the 45lb copper. I dont wanna lose $25 worth of copper with a lighter weight backer. The size difference is minimal and still way smaller than mono. I try to get on as much backer as possible, just in case. I bought some Ripcord in the past and actually preferred it over powerpro. I did start adding a 30' section off mono between copper and backer to clip on. Hate to add extra knots but really hate to have boards release. I start with a 50' flouro leader on my core and copper as it gets trimmed often. So do my cores and coppers too:o
  6. If u have 2 reels u can wind one on backwards to fill it to the max then just reel onto the other. This will let u know how much each can hold without over/under filling them. Although it does take 2 reels. Keep the questions coming. There is lots to be learned from here. I have only been fishing for a few years and the nice folks at GLF have helped tremendously. My 30D are my wire dipsy rods which are more versatile than a single length of copper or core if u dont have dipsy rods yet IMHO.
  7. I just bought the 3 rod trees this winter. Have used on others boats and like them. Great price wise. I got them to fit my berts tracks too. Lock downs work great. The ability to move up and down along with 360 degrees makes them very user friendly. Being able to swing them in really helps at the dock. I bought them on Ebay from Mike at Falcon Outdoors- [email protected] They had good prices and good cust service. Shipped fast also. I believe i paid $260 total for a left and right side. These also have the open top tube to use as an extra rod holder or for net.
  8. Mtn Dew Spindoctor with a No See Um Fly on sunny day and blue bubble spin doctor with blue bubble fly for cloudy days
  9. Ur dads gonna be lonely down here in South Haven. Have fun you will have the summer to remember forever. Congrats!
  10. Takes about 15 minutes of fidgeting to fit in garage by about 1/4" plus taking off all eq to fit in garage. Fine for winter(gotta have a place to drink beer all winter:p)but wont happen at midnight.
  11. For only $30 i would do the 3 rod tree. Thats pretty cheap in the long run especially if u may get a new boat, more fishermen in the future. Prob worth the safe storage of one rod, Sometimes its the extra place to put a rod when fighting a fish.
  12. Thanks guys. Thats what im looking for. Take off couple times a season prob. Any clue where to get such things? If someone really wants em they r gonna get em but i wanna slow em down so i can react. Hopefully.
  13. Hey Justin, Nee Hi is sold and gone:thwak: But the good news is I got a 1987 17' Sylvan. Will post some pics when spring comes. Its a little faster but not quite the sweet style of the Nee Hi. Just hope I can keep my riggers and holders on the tracks hehe.
  14. I have Berts tracks that hold rod holders and downriggers and my new boat wont fit in garage during summer. Anybody have any different lock end screws or anyway to lock on $$$ worth of equipment rather than just a hex head? Figure others must have same concerns but never saw anything different. I live in nice neighborhood but never know when a few hoodlums might roll through. Any thoughts?
  15. I had a cushion made for my cooler top that is made of gore tex. Cool eh? Yeah nothing wants to stick to gore tex. I have industrial strength velcro for easy on off, but its ridiculous to try to sew on. Reg velcro wont stick to rough cooler. Any thoughts?
  16. Ive just been sitting in my boat in the garage drinking beer and daydreaming! Mr. Buddy heater almost makes it feel like April:cray:
  17. 20:00 574 ft 21.59 ft 10.0 sec 8.2 sec 0.6 sec 2400 sec Data from Buoy by Manitou Island. Holy snikes, 21.5' waves:help: That is crazy! The wind is still a blowing too! Thats a lot taller than my boat is long.
  18. Been thinking about waist hi but doesnt have the ring of the Nee Hi. I bought a 17' Sylvan Eliminator with a 70HP Merc. At least i have winter to set it up. Of course I already put alot on since day 1 pic. Will pot finished pics come spring but heres a start. Need to sell Nee Hi so I can get some trees.
  19. I got a feeling my season is prob over too. Just got a new boat and the weather has been too windy to even get it out. Well its been a great year for me and at least great hunting times are coming. Avg just under 7 fish a trip with usually 2 guys, cant complain about that. Cant wait for spring but a little sad to retire the Nee Hi. Hope everyone has a great winter and may spring come early:p
  20. Thanks guys. 2nd time hunting some new property. Had class til 550 and decided to head to blind as it was a nice night. It was getting late and had a doe pass through 50 yds away then this guy came through about 15 yds out on the move. Stepped behind a tree and all i knew was it had horns so i took a real quick shot. He went 50 yds. From time i saw til i shot was maybe 20 seconds. Glad i had bow in hand! The season is still young and im jacked:thumb:
  21. This is my first bow kill ever. Im a happy camper! Good way to get season started!
  22. Sweet!. I have seen that boat many a time in slip and wondered what it could take. That musta been a crazy view from their deck:eek:. Was at Whitefish Point on Lk Superior for the weekend. We skipped out on camping. It was nuts!!
  23. Was rough fishing for us all around tues pm and wed am. Tues night took bites in 95, 115, 130, 145 fow on 7 color down to 130' rigger. Lots of marks in shallow 50-60 fow but no takers. Crappy weather and crappy fishing for us this week in SH. Orange was best color though. Worst fish of the 2010 season :eek:Good luck if ya get out. Saw 1 silver king taken off pier wed morn. even w/ warm temps
  24. Ended up sticking around SH with nasty weather. Ended 1 for 4 tues PM with hits in 95, 115, 130, and 140 fow. Landed 15# king in 140fow on 150' copper orange crush that was bent in half by that beast. Buddies first king so that was cool. Lost fish on 7 color w/ purple and yellow spoon, 200' copper w/ mag mixed veggie UV, and Craigs christmas 120 down on rigger. Last fish was at 730:( King was rather looked like we pulled out of 40fow not 140fow Wind blew all night so we made it out for 1/2 hr of 1st light fishing 50-60fow then pulled as it was nasty and had a green crew member. Went back out for an hour from 1-2pm without a hit then pulled as it was pretty sloppy.. Wind was dead back at port and calming nicely. Decided to call it a trip as the weather and fishing were terrible. Beats staying at work!! Looks ugly the next few days too.
