  1. The convector CV45l and CV 55l are great reels I use the 45's for my lead core set ups and the 55's for 200 and 300 copper setups they handle it all and have been durable and the drags always perform well. My rigger reels are the Diawa45LC and I use them for any cores up to a 7 color they work really well.
  2. S. Haven depth at the mid lake buoy is around 330' It is a real run out there but have been there a couple of time looking for the mid lake temp break and the trash line. Sometimes u find it and sometimes u dont. Not a run u want to take unless u are looking for a boat ride.
  3. Try Pyles www.pylesporthole.com for a fishing report and a map of how to get there. otherwise Spoonwasher had it all.
  4. This is huge the hooks that come on lures aren't necessarily sharp right out of the package.
  5. KISS principle if you find a pattern get everything you have that is similar down there. (If your full cores are getting his with a plug then set a couple of riggers with plugs at 45 to 50' dn and get a couple of divers in the same area with a plug or flasher) in other words get all your stuff in the strike zone as soon as you find a pattern.
  6. nicely done Jim. The plug bite is on in S Haven too. I have noticed in the last 2 weeks the males are already changing color and the spawn in the females is ripening fast.
  7. The plugs I prefer are Silver Hordes, Green glow spatterback, Blue Mylar, and the white glow wonder bread and white glow with the black ladder back were all good today.
  8. Well the seas were a bit more than the 1 to 2 ft that was forecast, were rolling 3 ft at the end of the piers and settled to 2 to 3 as we moved out and south. The bite was for the most part in the top 60 ft of the water column. We ran a full spread of Hi and lo divers, 4 riggers and 2 full cores and 2 300 copper. The pattern was Flashers and flies on the dipsies, and Silver Horde any glow as long as it was glow or Mylar. We went 5 for 11 with 4 that were on and off befor we could turn them and 1 that straightened out the split ring on a Sampo ball bearing swivel. 2nd time in the last 2 weeks of the 11 hits 5 came on plugs on full cores over 87 to 95 FOW, 4 came on riggers with Plugs and carmel dolphin modified stingrays. And 1 on the deep rigger set at 69' 11 green e chip paddle and a siggs rig green weenie fly. The other was on a hoochie mama 8" flasher with red spinners and a Horsefly. Final tally was 1 Laker on the hoochie mama and horesfly, 3 Kings ( 2 were 4 year old fish) and a beautiful 34" Steelhead that came on a Silver Horde white glow with black ladder back off the rigger dn 66'. The lake did lay down after 9 oclock and it was a beautiful day out there. If you are going out of S. Haven this afternoon be aware of a strong south west to north east current that likes to cross up every thing .
  9. The shallow outside to deep inside V pattern works great, I never tangle cores and copper and I run full cores and 300 copper on the same side all the time the biggest problems can come when fish hit the deep divers and run out to the side and can get into one of the outside presentations, that has happened only once since I started using the V presentation. The charter guy should have his nuts removed.
  10. The fish are staging for the spawn and are holding Bromley said they are feeding putting on fat for the spawning run the next three weeks should see some fantastic fishing up and down the peninsula. Last week we caught all of our fish in 60 to 100 FOW and the 7 color and 10 color lead core was hot as well as the deep riggers with in 10 feet of the bottom. When we marked bait we caught fish.
  11. Well done Russ. It looks like your good fortune this next week is our bad luck with the West wind we are back to the deep bite.
  12. Nicely done Jim! Nice brownie I havent had one of those since May.
  13. Well done Jim, thats what a fisherman is supposed to do but we often let our selfish get er done fishin get in the way of helping out a brother in need. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim at the seminar in Walker this spring and he can definitely get er done on the fishies.
  14. Great job Todd sounds like the same pattern we had in SH on wednesday, but our full cores with Silver Horde plugs were good too.
  15. My temp probe is not working but surface was down to 71 degrees
  16. What a day, between dodging storms and trying to boat big fish we had a great trip, ended up 11 for 16 with 1 coho,1 32 Inch Steelhead, and 9 Kings between 7 and 18 lbs. Started the day straight out and a little south of the piers set up in 65 FOW and trolled NW to 70 before the first rigger fired green glow J plug 67 down , next was a nice coho on the 44' rigger carmel dolphin Stinger, then came the steelhead on full core modified carmel dolphin stinger. Then came the lightning, pulled everything and ran in to the marina, @ 8:20 sat around for an hour and headed back out to a calm lake, and the fishing got better as the day progressed, definitely a plug bite for the most part, both on full core and riggers of the 16 fish on 10 came on plugs, 1 on 11" green paddle and 5 on the carmel dolphin Stingers high in the water column 44 to 49 ft and on the full cores. Full box of fish and happy fishermen makes for a great day. We ended up getting the biggest fish of the day on the riggers as we were pulling lines deep rigger with the pearl glow Silver Horde fired and that fish was 34" long and scaled 18 lbs and 4 oz. 17. I changed back to steel cable this year, when we had the slime and fleas in June the braid just piled up with the stuff and the cable doesn't seem effected by it. The 1 advantage to the braid is smaller diameter for higher break strength so u get less blow back with it. I changed to heavier pancake style weights and that solved the blowback issue. Like Nailer said the age issue is another negative on the braid need to change every year. It doesn't age gracefully and it is not very abrasion resistant. Good luck what ever you try.
  18. Had Mike Leach, his son Kevin(university of Mi Safety) and daughter for an early morning run. Left the slip at 5:30 and ran out to 80 FOW, Set up 4 riggers with Stinger NBK and Modified Carmel Dolphin fm 49 to 82 down, 2 fullcores with same spoons, and 2 300 copper with same stuff, and 1 power pro Dipsey on 2 out 202'. Just got the spread out and the full core on the port side went nice steelhead about 4# the young ladies first ever and she handled the rod like a pro. Next was the 300 copper with carmel dolphin stingray and that was a very nice Laker around 15# just got every thing re set and the deep rigger with the modified carmel dolphin went off 2 year old king. The dipsey went and was on for a minute then came off, and another hit on the deep rigger never hooked up, all this befor 7:00, kinda slowed down until the weather ran us off at around 9:45. Got real lumpy really quick. Going up the channel between the piers had to keep the boat on plane to maintain steering. Glad the hard top is on this boat. Kept us nice and dry. Mike and this kids had a blast and took home some nice fillets. Mike(Supertramp)Chamberlin Boat Name MC2
  19. Well you at least got to spend a great morning on the water and got home without any real damage to the outdrives. Good to see you and take care of the salmon in the classroom project. We didnt do any better on the perch, funny how a couple of days will change everything on you.
  20. Nice job Mike and crew. Thanks for the tip on the paddle and fly off the dipsey, after you gave me that piece of advice I set one out on the power pro dipsey 11" green glow paddle with a black and gold horsefly out 215 wasnt down 3 min and ripped a nice 14# king. The day was not too good for us though sail boat went down my port side and took 3 boards and a 4 color a full color and a 300 copper with it. We ended up with 4 nice fish.
  21. Larrie will be going perch fishing on Sunday try south about even with Deerlick creek and graph fm 15 to 40' when u find fish set up and try it I have been very successful with that pattern this year. A lot of guys are going south to the dunes and fishing in that 15 to 40 FOW depends on water temp and how stirred up the sand is. Mike
  22. Got over to the slip @ 6:00PM, headed out to my pre set way point and set lines in 85 FOW on a north troll. Program was mostly green spoons on the cores and coppers along with a couple of carmel dolphins spoons on the riggers and dipseys. Ended up at 9:30 with 1 really overstuffed Laker and 4 lost fish. 1 King came off after diving thru the downrigger cables and hanging the hook on the cable, that was on a 300 copper NBK, the others were on carmel dolphin on a full core just new fishermen trying to horse the fish and the hooks pulled out Saddest was a brand new stingray carmel dolphin on the dipsey out 214 set on 2 and a brand new Sampo swivel had the split ring pull out left the straightened put ring on the leader what a bummer. Still a great evening on the water fished fm 85 to 117 and marked a lot of fish 55 to 70 down. The sunset was really magnificent to end the day. (That Laker came on the deep rigger 93 dn) Mike (Supertramp) Boat Name MC2
  23. Nice job Nick not bad for a short trip. The newbies are a hoot, but anytime the lake lays down after a blow it is a nice time to get out and the fish are a huge bonus.
