  1. Today
  2. This one and the next one are for my friend's new smoker.
  3. Many thanks for the report Ed. Glad your keeping the freezer stocked. Have not been out in 2 weeks to the day. Cleaned up the boat and going out tonight. I regret to know it will be packed with boats on a Friday night, especially in late August.
  4. Quite bouncy today, fished 90-150, best depth was 105-115 Went 1 for 5, picked up 11#-5oz king in 110fow, on rigger dwn 60, with a silver streak hot lobster mag spoon, 2.3 sog, ball 59.9°, SE trl at (7:48am). Lost 2 on the way to the boat others were flybys. Alot of boats out. No hits on divers or 250 and 300 ws
  5. So pumped you guys g9t up there and we're able to put the smack on them. I/we caught 52 fish over four days. Pretty incredible up there. We'll worth the drive! IMG_20260821_100200.heic IMG_20260820_125024.heic IMG_20260820_125010.heic
  6. Last week
  7. Congrats on a fun and productive morning. Figured it was a great day to be out- but work kept me off the water. Hope to be out this weekend
  8. Great job and box. Always fun when you don’t have time to get all your poles in the water!
  9. Thanks jolly time for your report on the 20th. We waited for a break with the wind and trailered north this morning. We were finishing up setting the sixth rod in 50 fow and it was game on. Never could get 6 rods set. At 7:30 we had our 2 man limit and only 1 rod left in the water in 70 fow. 7 color, 150 copper, both high divers and both riggers all took fish. a-bomb spoon and plugs of all colors did the work. (green, blue, pink dot, natural glow, and a chrome frog) Mini’s were a little better than 5” plugs. ( all dreamweaver ) I really don’t think color mattered. Everything we put out took a fish.
  10. It’s been tough fishing the rough water lately. We had the same thing happen to us on Thursday. We expected pleasant east winds and got [emoji638]-[emoji639] footers all morning…even the captain(me) was starting to turn green… Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  11. Went out Friday morning expecting mild SE winds with out-of-town inexperienced guests. Ugh, 2 ft rollers out of the south (fishable but not ideal for guests). Fished north in 80 FOW at 2.7 mph, had a rip at 8 am on 300 ft CU with stranglehold hulk smash, got off. Another on the other 300 ft CU with blue/green ladderback J-plug, but it also quickly off. Hulk smash ripped again with a good hook up. Halfway in the other 300 CU went off, but unfortunately the other guest was too sick to help. Got the 12 lb laker trout in, but other fish was off by then. One more Hulk rip, but lost. We decided to call it a day (we were north of the holland pier, so had a long ride back home).
  12. I remember fishing in the 3-5's and all I could think about was how I was going to get back in after running with the waves. Glad you got one for table fair Ed. And JDH, agree that is a great approach to run 2 long lines off each side w/o a board just to get something in the water that is easy to manage. Looks like we got a good blow for the next couple of days - time to catch up on other projects I suppose.

  14. Nice work while getting beat up in the chop! Another option for rough days which I don't fish very often at all - I've found it easy to run 2 coppers on leadcore. Set them in my diver holders on opposite sides of the boat and forget trying to put boards on. Or just run one with a board. Would have to go with the waves so you don't tangle up. For me it beats leaning on the corners of the boat to set my riggers.
  15. Well you earned that one Ed ! Great effort sticking it out and you were rewarded with a nice king.
  16. What a rough fishing experience today, a forecast that called for light winds and 1ft waves. It turned out to be 3-5ft waves that continued with no break. I had to call it at 7:30am because it got to dangerous for solo fishing for me. But I was determined to get something and I went 1 for 3 with a 12#-6oz king on a RV GLK Dolphin spoon I just bought yesterday. I only could put 2 riggers in water because of the conditions. Anyway got him on a N trl @2.6sog, ball temp 57.1°, dwn 57.5ft in 79.4fow at 6:42am. I crawled back to harbor still catching spray every other wave. Nice to be out again... I think?
  17. epic salmon fishing ! you got them dialed in for sure. thanks for the report
  18. Changed it up and went a bit north to Whitehall last night and this morning. 10 for 16 last night and 23 for 32 this morning with a few fish being returned to the deep. I stopped by Johnsons and asked for some Intel and they put me on fish. Plugs plugs plugs and flasher flies rulled both outings. Evening started in 150 and found the sweet spot at 135 +/- inside dipseys 120-140 back flasher/flies high divers back 150-180 with spoons and plugs. 225,250,300 coppers all took fish. Troll angle was key and once we found it, game on. Slow speed with an occasional speed up 2.1-2.4 worked. Thursday morning...insane! It started with my boat not being able to go and the guys I invited being nice enough to bring their boat and to invite me out. Pretty cool. Thank you Eric, Kreg and Doug. We caught fish. We caught a lot of fish. Inside 100 to start the morning before sunrise. All plugs. Then once light came up meat rigs and plugs. And after sunrise into late morning riggers started to go. Dipseys setting 3 200-240 back. Riggers 60-80down. 200-400coppers all went at some point. The fishing is good! We did get out close to 170fow. 140ish was good late in the morning. 19. We hope the weather will allow us to be out of Whitehall on Friday and Saturday. If you get out Thursday I would appreciate any report. Last weekend the fish were scattered in 130-160. I hope they have found a sweet spot this week. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  20. Anyone going to be up in Whitehall this week? I feel like going up and pulling the boat with me. Is there anyone that wants to possibly go out fishing with me Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning or evening? Let me know.
  21. 100% All we could do was keep saying " watch out" "don't let anything get into the prop".
  22. Great report. Sounds like a busy and exciting evening. Seems like when the actions constant, it turns them on to a host of different offerings. Fun to experiment with some off the wall stuff. Glad that tangle stayed our of the prop. Boy howdy did a big king wrap us up at dark 30 a few years ago. Like you said it hit a high diver and spiraled around the low diver on that side, charged back under the boat and through the dipsys on the other side. Drew both rigger lines right into the prop. Having had this before cut the engine. Still had to take turns in the pluge with the cutters and prop wrench. Good days past.
  23. Great report, ty! Sorry bout the tangle, I’ve had a few myself! Good luck on the water, tight lines… Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  24. I’ve had some messes before but I can’t recall one that epic. Love the details in the report.
  25. NW winds can be hard to get fish to go but you killed it. Lot of plugs in the spread - thanks for the report! Glad you made it back safely.
