My boat has not seen April fishing in 10 years. It is ready this year - We did the shakedown trip Saturday from noon to 2PM We netted a nice Coho - She hit a Monkey puke Stinger on a 1 color in 20 fow 1 mile S of Holland Pier on a N troll at 2.5 - 3 SOG - only hit. Boat and the new electronics ran perfectly. Now I need to get out deeper to try out the freshly rebuilt riggers. Let the FUN begin...

Here is the great lakes water levels for the last few years. https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/data/wlevels/dashboard/ Here is a decent synopsis of the historical and future water levels by the Tip Of The Mitt Watershed Council. It is from 2023, but it shows the long term trends. https://watershedcouncil.org/great-lakes/current-historic-and-future-water-levels/

Hello gang I am new to the lake and would appreciate any advice on fishing near and around the naval station. I have not boated on Lake Michigan before, but I am a Marine who has plenty of time on the water. I'm looking for discussion of what types of fish we can target, what basic rods and reels for a lake setup, etc. Not looking to spend a lot of money - just to be safe and have fun fishing with my sons. Any and all info is appreciated. Semper Fidelis! Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

Greetings - I live downstate but have access to the lake through Naval Station Great Lakes... I have a 17' Crestliner Sportfish and would like to start fishing the lake with my sons early this summer. Any recommendations or other info is greatly appreciated! I prefer a stiff wind in my 14’. Trolling with the wind is the poor man’s autopilot. I run all my rods on one side of the boat if possible - port as that’s the side I’m facing - to make them easier to watch and to leave the other side open to play/land fish, if they play nice however larger kings and steel sometimes disregard my best inputs to convince them where they should go.
-
Autopilot is pretty much a necessity to keep the boat going straight. I rest the net on my swim platform until the fish is close to the boat. Hold the rod with right hand and dip the net with my left while pulling the fish forward. Usually, the fish ends up in the boat. Sometimes, well, they get away!

I've found that Traxteck end piece with the Alan wrench is sufficient. Most thieves don't carry an alan wrench set.
