littleboat Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Fished solo, 5:30am-10am. 2/4 both kings, 70-85 fow.#1 king 10.5#, flounder pounder mag, rigger down 73, 2.3sog,N trl, ball temp 51, 5:42am. #2 king, 5.86#, happee meal RV std slider, rigger down 74, 2.4 sog, N trl, ball temp 51.7, 5:43am. 2 other misses on riggers. Rest of story:Lost an hour of fishing at prime time as the two fish hit a minute apart crossing my rigger lines and diver. I had braid tangled into the swivels on the lures and wrapped onto outboards. Finally had to hold on to the dive braid with one hand cut it and tie a granny knot. Retread the line thru the diver rod eyes. Similar operation on the riggers. Had another bite but had to let it go. Waves were 3 ft and I was having a hard time maintaining my balance. What a mess. Finally clear it up, with only a bite a blow by. No more fish bit after that. Great day! I would do it again, once I repair my lines. Sent from my SM-A156U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app 6
SeaFoam Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Oh man. Having the tangled lines stinks but losing an hour of prime time, like you said, makes it worse. Sounds like you were an expert at getting the lines cleared though. Nice job going 2-4 with all that to deal with this morning. I went out with my son and went 3-3 this morning. Fished 5:50-8:45 am 1. 6:05am, 10 lb king, full core, RV MS Green jean(the bent one) , 83 FOW, was a mad king that took quite a while to land. It hit before we had the other lines out so we lost a half hour or so getting it landed and deploying other lines 2. 7:00 am, 8 lb king, 75 FOW, dipsy, 3 setting back 150 ft. Meat rig 3. 8:30 am, 8 lb king, 65 FOW, full core again with same battered spoon. Called it at 8:45am. Buoy said 1.2-1.5 ft , it was all of that. Thanks to 2MD for getting us in the right depth to start the day. 4
2MD Posted July 14 Posted July 14 impressive you guys! seems like the bite is still strong there inside 100fow 3
littleboat Posted July 14 Author Posted July 14 Love them battered spoons, they always produce. I'm glad you and your son did well. Once you went in, it went to 3ft almost all the time. I got tired of getting beat up out there and decided to call it a day..Sent from my SM-A156U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app 2
Reel-y-hooked Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Very impressive Ed ! 2-3 footers, 2 fish on, tangled, and fishing solo. That’s an adventure! 1
zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Heroic job Ed getting all the gear back into the boat without a loss. I recall outings where cutting lines and tying the ends to an empty downrigger rod holder, hoping it stays there while working the rest of the rats nest. But not in the seas you had to contend with. Fun times! 1
WRENCHED 4 IT Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Great job Ed even getting tangled you hung in there and caught 2. I had the same issue mine was the current causing the issue in that 105 to 115 fow. Decided to go into the 80fow and found current much more favorable but by then bite was over. 3
