  1. This fish really tested my patience along with my resistance to cold weather! 33 minutes 8 lbs. Small jig/waxworm, bluegill fishing 3lb. test line:eek:
  2. Isn't Stannard Rock on Superior?? That's where I would go for a laker trip of a lifetime! Good Luck!
  3. Port Dalhousie is on the bucket list!!! Thanks for sharing.
  4. So for $25 I get the seminar, lunch, $20, and a trip??? Count me In!
  5. I started a few years ago with manual riggers and small divers and did ok. Your current setup covers the "vertical", top to bottom, now you need to cover the "horizontal" , out to the sides. Do this with Church Tackle Walleye boards and whatever you want to pull behind them, copper, leadcore or braid and mono with different weight dive bombs or torpedo weights added for the depth you want to reach. Once you add some distance between the boat and your presentation, your hookup rate will increase and then you will have a "spread". Good Luck and let us know how you do! Dave
  6. Congratulations to you and your family Mark! Must be something in the water up there...
  7. Hey Kevin,

Sunday: Started in 80fow @ about 6 a.m. First king slammed a u.v. paddle and a silver u.v. fly from Mikes Eyeflies on a wire dipsy set on 1.5 and was only about 60' out when it hit. Love when those wires get hit! Peeled 190' on the first run then turned tail and raced towards the boat. Never got caught up to it and it made 1 jump @ the boat and tossed the hook, grrrr. That was the big fish for the day but still boxed 2 average kings and 8 very nice coho for our 2 man limit. 1 king and 5 ho's were offshore in 210-230fow. Top 30' out there. SWR was the stud for us in closer [spoons]. Hardly any trollers out, might have been because of the threat of weather. We saw just enough rain to spot up the windshield and that's it. Did you get out?

  8. Well that sure looks familiar. The exact same spindle ended my season early last year. I was able to buy a new spindle from a axle maker in Elkhart, In. for $21.00, a hub, bearings and seals from Starboard Choice marine in Mishawaka, In. for about $38.00 if I remember correctly and did the work myself. Just over $50 bucks but quite a bit of time cutting the old one off square and welding the new spindle on square and true. Had to remove the complete axle to do it, with the boat still on the trailer. If I had to do it again I would just replace the whole axle assembly for just a little more cabbage! Good Luck, Dave
  9. We had similar results Sunday..sort of. I was pulling an old favorite, that was on fire two weeks ago, that didn't get sniffed all morning. Nothing else was working that well either. I finally gave in and swapped out the "old favorite" with a tried and true blue dolphin. That never got bit either but the rest of the spread came to life and we finished a short trip 9/11 losing 2 large steelhead during the acrobatics and boxing 4 kings, 4 coho and a steely. Nothing of any notable size except the ho's were on the heavy side of 4lbs. The water at the harbor mouth was literally boiling with thousands of baitfish jumping as we passed by at 4:30 in the morning. That was a cool sight to see! Dave
  10. I stocked up on a wide variety of UV tackle this off season, spoons, spinnies, flies, etc... My question is: Is it possible to have too much UV in the water? My normal 2 man spread consists of 2 riggers w/2 sliders, 2 wire divers, and 2 coppers when fishing deep. 6 high lines when offshore for steelies. Your thoughts and experiences are much appreciated. Dave
  11. Starboard Choice is located in Mishawaka, In. Steve and Andy are Top Shelf all the way! I use them a lot and highly recommend their services. Dave. P.M. sent
  12. I used the stops and crimps that came with the riggers. Not a slipping problem. No cable kinks. When it happened on the water I didn't try and diagnose the problem, just wanted to get the cable back on the spool without losing any fingers, and get back to fishing. Does anyone use something other than the Big Jon stops and crimps? Dave
  13. I bought 2 Pro Tournament riggers late last year and they have performed well...until this past weekend. One of the auto stop "actuators" that is on the rigger cable is getting hung up in the auto stop pulley block when sending it down. This causes the cable to jump off the spool until I shut it off, and also presents a serious safety issue. While trying to put the cable back on the spool by hand, the actuator can come dislodged and let the cannonball free fall until all the slack wire is taken up. Just hope your fingers are clear when this happens. This happened three times Sunday. I've tried to figure out why this happens with the boat in my shop but of course it won't hang up when I want it to. I'm using the factory stop actuators. Any ideas or suggestions? Dave
  14. Couldn't sleep last night so headed out to the truck at 4 a.m. and made the 40 mile trip. Set up at 6 a.m. in 50' of water. First hit at 6:55, same depth, small green glow j-plug 48 down got a 11.2# greaser. Actually put up a pretty good fight to my surprise. Only marked three more fish all day. About 10 other boats out, all scattered. Saw a few nets being used but don't know what was caught. Warmest water I found was a few pockets of 46.2* down 35'. But for the most part, 43-45* surface temps. I'll probably wait a few more weeks to get out again. Maybe the water, and the fishing will heat up by then. Good luck to all. Dave
  15. Hey Bill,

Nice 17lb.er! Had to laugh at all the comments on that "other" site. I don't miss arguing with the moderator at all. He stirs the pot more than anyone and then says he won't tolerate it.

Anyways, I will be heading out of N.B. Sunday early...been out twice this year and not a single rip. Wondering if you were in clear water or the dirt and about what depth?

Just trying to find a starting spot I can fish with some confidence. I'll be alone so only 3 lines makes it a little tough when searching. Thanks for any info, I'll let you know if I'm successful.

    Dave.

  16. Welcome Eli! I launched out of New Buffalo this morning and saw about 15 other boats out also. Should of slept in... Dave
  17. I've never been there and any launch info or fishing reports would be greatly appreciated. I have an 18' PolarKraft so I don't need a lot of depth, but I don't want to make the long trip if it's too shallow. I'll be coming in from the East off the toll road [i-80]. Seems to be a lot of warm water down there. Thanks guys, Dave
  18. I make my own also and the pin for the TX-44 is longer. I have a pic in my gallery of the standard size. Dave
  19. This is how I do it. Dive Bomb OR-16 Style!
