  1. i do like using floro as leader but i dont spend the extra money for leader floro. i just buy the bigger spools of floro line. but just like lures they arent designed to catch fish, there designed to catch fishermen.LOL. right?? sherman
  2. hey brandon i started with dipsy,s then 2 years ago i switched to deeper divers by cannon or walker one. then last year i run across the lite bite slide diver. i fish lake erie for walleye. we really have a problem with small trash fish that wont trip the divers. well the lite bite slide divers have 2 adjustments. 1 for rod tension and 1 for the fish to trip the diver. so this new mouse trap sounded great. so i invested in them. the best move i could have made. the lite bite arm has made diver fishing so much better. i can set the tension where i dont get alot of false releases even in choppy water then set the trigger tension so lite that most of the time even a small white perch will trip them. we now drag very few small fish around. if you ever have trouble with shakers or small fish the lite bites are the answer. they arent perfect but they are very close. you can also get 2 size rings and 2 size weights. you can use the big ring and the 4 oz weight to really get deep. or you can use the standard weight and no ring or the small ring to run shallow. you can check them out good at slidediver.com you can also get package deals with all the extras there also. then i just get in 50 ft of water let out line untill i hit bottom. on each side setting. that tells me how many feet of line out per foot of depth. so i now have my dive curve. i get close to 3.7 ft depth per 10 ft out. thats with 65 lb braid at 2 mph on a no#4 setting with standard weight and small ring. so if i want to run 65 ft deep, i,ll go 240 out on a 4 setting. you really should check out the lite bite divers. slidediver.com
  3. i had quit fishing big water, then 2 years ago. my oldest son talked me and my wife into going to erie with them for vacation with him and his family. the point being was we took my 6 yr old grandson out, along with his half brother who got very sick. now he dont like it. but the 6 yr old is crazy about the whole thing. he loves catching he loves fishing and he just loves the run in and out. and he is so good about waiting his turn on the rod. and the look on his face when he gets a nice 6 or 8 pounder is in my mind for the rest of my life. i sure hope you dont feel like i stole your thread. just that i know what you have to look forward to. he is always ready to help with anything, he,s right there. what can i do. its just awesome to see a young one so interested in a good clean sport. as long as im able i,ll keep him involved in outdoor sports. hope you get to do alot of fishing with your 6 yr old. and i am sorry her big trip turned out as bad as it did. but it sounds like you guys know how to make the best of a bad day. sherman
  4. they have a upgraded plate at cabelas. i dont know if its any better than the old one. i have used the old one, and really liked the way its made and how it works. but the old ones just shear the pins to much. you can get way to much money tied up in pins. if they got that fixed i would probably use one. cabelas has a good return policy. so if you get one and it starts shearing pins just return it. but until i get more reviews on them, i,ll stick to my easy troll. i know what they will do. and they take just seconds to use and store. put your boat in neutral pul cord put back in gear. give just alittle gas to lock it in the up position. then your trolling. when you get done put in neutral pull cord put back in gear and give it just alittle gas to make sure its released. then just take off, the plate will come on up and latch in place. if you do happen to give it alittle gas without putting the plate up, the bottom half is hinged and will swing up and not bend. i have a few old man brain farts, so i have forgotten to put it up a couple of times. didnt hurt anything. knock on wood, hasnt hurt anything yet.LOL. i even have one on my 15 ft tri hull 115 hp boat. has to really slow boat down for crappie and walleye. as long as i troll i,ll use the easy troll unless they get a better mouse trap.LOL. sherman please let us all know which way you decide to go. and how that works out for you.
  5. i started using gale force tackle last year. now its the only ones i buy. i do still have some others but i mostly just use gale force tackle. the best colors for me last year was dr death, gale force, and reverse muffin. i had him tie me up a bunch of tandem worm harnesses without leaders. makes them very easy to store after use. then i just tie on a leader to a swivel. that way i can use any size leader. when you can arm a novice like me with a lure, and i can go out and catch fish. its got to be some good lures. they have spoons, harnesses, and spoon harnesses. if anybody wants central basin walleye you need some of his tackle. and they are very high quality, you can catch fish and the paint stays on. not like some spoons i,ve used. if you want something tied up spiecial just contact roy at galeforcetackle.com sherman
  6. heres your chance to get 2 same as new downriggers. 375.00 for both riggers with single clamp on rod holders mounting plates and knobs and weights shipped to you. 350.00 without weights
  7. at that price you cant hardley go wrong. I just couldnt see investing in them, but at this price i would. But i live in muncie indiana and would spend more for gas than on the riggers.lol. But it just aint funny. They just told on the news that gas prices are going back up. Were up to 4.17 per gallon.
  8. i dont mean any offence, but why would you want to go from electric thats paid for to manual?? last year was my first 2 electric ones. i had just always made do with manual ones. this year i got 2 more electric. there not eatin anything so i would atleast hang on to them for awhile unless i really needed the money. maby just quit useing them for a few trips. and see how things go. this summer they will be nice. i only get to make about 3 or 4 trips to erie a year. but i,ll be there with riggers on.LOL. i have a 335 mile trip to fish where i want to fish. i think he just got these winter blues, they,ll pass. sherman
  9. if it wasnt such a long drive i would have bought them. thats a great price for a set of outriggers. i have a set of 16 ft surf rods that i use for outriggers. they have really served me well. if i only need to put out a couple of long lines, they are alot better than going to all the trouble of putting out my boards. and work just as good. and i use rubber bands for releases. so if i get a small fish on it will stretch the rubber band and i can see something is on. good luck and good fishing. sherman
  10. i use the lite bite slide divers, and absolutly love the lite bite feature. i fish lake erie for walleye, and the small fish can be a nightmare at times. but the lite bites will trip on most of these small fish. but i still wouldnt want to give up my riggers. and if i still fished salmon i would prefer the riggers to divers. just my preference sherman
  11. i can do 425.00 without the weights. and as soon as i get the other rod holder that i ordered, they will come with the clamp on rod holder.
  12. hey atleast you will have access to some good information on here. most are just waiting to tell us new guys where to go.LOL. good info with your divers and riggers should really help your catch. i,ve been on this forum(my first) for 2 or 3 weeks and i feel like they,ve already helped me alot. glad your here, well try to help this be a much better season. and these guys really will share there knowledge. sherman
  13. hey never heard of it. but the best of luck on the whole thing. my wife was having all those problems. she got to where she got sick every time she ate anything fried. and her pain was almost unbearable for me, it was braking my heart. they did the gall bladder thing and she had stones down in the ductwork going into her liver. she really had a rough time of it. but our prawers got us through. and a good doctor. sherman
  14. hey scott i,ve only been here a couple of weeks. these guys are great. they even let me run my mouth alittle and dont seem to get to p#ss#d at me. you should like it here. i,d never even thought about a forum. was just looking around online for some info on the chamberlain downrigger release. these guys really gave me some great info. i think they,re going to be great. but then i,ve always liked trying new stuff if i could swing the money. i just started back fishing the big water again in 09. went on vacation with my oldest son. at that time we used dipsy,s but i had heard about the walkers and they sounded better so we gave them a try. i did like them better and no rings. then last year heard about the lite bite slide diver. with all the small fish in erie i decided to give them a try. the trigger on the lite bites are awesome. they were tripping on white perch last summer. got me some new metallic colors this year. if you want to check them out. downriggerrelease.com the other is slidedivers.com. oh yea i like using the slide diver just like a standard diver. i just like being able to use the trigger. the best of luck, and dont be afraid to ask questions, or put your 2 pennies worth in. im loving being here. i,ll be 60 next thurs and this is my first forum. if you ever get up to geneva oh in july and aug. give last chance a yell on #68 sherman
  15. hey great day fishing. back before i started walleye only a few yrs ago, south haven was my favorite port once the fish showed up in the spring. we fished new bufflow as soon as the water let us, then farther north to SH. was about a 200 mile trip for us. keep em comin. sherman
  16. i love using riggers and divers. if you really want to go deep or get to a certain depth, riggers are better. i run spoons all the time with divers for walleye. sherman
  17. if i was just looking for one for standby power on my house i would check out onan on ebay. they have just about anything you want. just be sure to check it out good first thing. ebay stands behind what you get on there now. if its not what they say it is, they will force them to give you a refund or they will give your money back. i have a 7000 in my rv and they make a great standby for your house. i dont know if it would run everything in your house at the same time tho. but they have bigger ones on ebay. some of the ones they have on there are already set up as stand by for your home. i know the ones they put in rv,s are good. they set for months at a time and start right up. last year i bought a 6500 for my old rv for 650.00 and it was and still is a great generator. i sold the rv to some friends in tenn last fall. they went to bristal to a nascar race. it started right up and ran all weekend. it dont hurt to atleast look at what they have. sherman
  18. i assume your talking about tuna,s reel troubles. i started sending all my stuff to him last year. i was having trouble with my diawa sealine sg17lca and accudepth adp17lc reels. i was using braid and didnt use any mono backing because the reels are small to start with. but that was my problem, the braid was slipping on the spools. so he just put pins in my arbors. problem fixed. so i just started sending him any problem reel. couldnt be happier. i even had this great big penn for saltwater. it had been tore up for a long time. he fixed it right up. and i couldnt believe how reasonable his prices are. i live in muncie indiana and have to ship to him. and with his prices i still come out ahead. i would highly reccomend him to everyone. you guys and gals all have a great season sherman
  19. yea the downriggers look and work like new. i did loose one of the clamp on rod holders. and i already have a replacement ordered
