  1. I mainly use my Walleye Boards for Lead Core and I have set the weights as far forward as possible. The lead core pulls down on the back of the board so by moving the weight forward the front of the board can dig in and get out further from the boat.
  2. Jason you can also get rod building parts at http://www.anglersworkshop.com/ or http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/. They both have a good selection for all types of rods. Hope this helps.
  3. You should be fishing on Saturday morning?
  4. I have been to several sites over the years and this one is the best. It is obvious you put a lot of thought and work into it to make is such a sucess. I particulay like the outings like the Stinger Challange and WMFL. It has been fun having a little friendly compititon and getting to know some of the other members who are just like me. A fishing nut. Thanks again. TT
  5. Put on about 3:00 in the afternoon. Today I was flying blind with no graph, sent in for repair. We managed 4 Walleyes today all on Stinger spoons. We fished east of Stoney Point. All reports on the radio indicated a slow pick today. Good to be out. Looking foreward to the Stinger Challange next weekend. TT
  6. Deer hunting is already like working a second job. If they have an early doe season in Sept I probably will not participate. I use the month of September to put boats away, pull the dock and get ready for bow season. I think most serious hunters will think it is too warm in September also. My thoughts.
  7. I just cooked some bacon wrapped Salmon. I put some ginger on the piece of salmon, the kind used on Susi. Then wrapped in bacon. Since my charcoal was all wet from the rain I just broiled in the oven. Got great reviews from my daughter.
  8. I am looking foreward to this. Every time I have been out I felt like I had one of the "Most dangerous jobs" catching crabs in Alaska. TT
  9. First trip out on Lake Erie this year. Launched 6:30 and headed out to 17 to 21 fow. Wind already blowing. Picked up a few silver bass and sheep of the deep. On the second pass we picked up a nice walleye on a Stinger Scorpion copper color, (I don't know the name) on a down rigger running just above the bottom. The wind really picked up so we went closer to shore in 15 fow and set up for a drift. One of the mates was not felling too sporty, so we dropped him off back at the truck. Went back out and made another pass and picked up another walleye same spoon. The crawler harnesses were catching silver bass, Hot n Tots were not doing any thing for us. We ended up with 2 nice fish for today. At the fish cleaning station other brought in limits and close to limits from the same area. So we were in the spot. At least the skunk is out of the box and a good time was had by all, almost.
  10. Welcome OlTroll. I too am from Michigan. I fished Erieau many years ago. Landed some of the biggest Walleyes of my life. You will like this site there is a lot of great people who will help and share information. All you have to do is ask.
  11. I have taken Friday off and am heading to Port Sheldon for Friday and Saturday.
  12. This is something I have been giving some thought to as well. I currently have two full core and two half core. The full cores produced very well last summer. I also fish Lake Erie as well in the Michigan waters. Max 30'. I was think of changing one of my half cores to a 3 color for use in shallower water in Lake Michigan but also in Lake Erie. For myself I am going to keep the two full cores because they did so well.
  13. Nice boat Andy. You should be able to get many hours of fishing enjoyment in her. Now the fun part, setting it up with all of the toys and equipment.
  14. I tried to put my pin in Chelsea, Mi but ended up in Kansas City????
  15. I have my Depth Raider near the sonar on the dash. When I run the kicker the speed needs to be adjusted at the rear. Whoever is on the helm gives a command to adjust the speed up or down. We all take turns at the helm. I usually can see the Depth Raider from the rear of the boat. I think if it were at the back of the boat it would be in the way. It can sometimes get a little busy back there.
  16. I have both types of boards. I like the big boards for walleye fishing. I can tell by looking at the line if I have a fish hanging on or a collection of weeds. I can't tell with the walleye boards. I use the walleye boards for salmon fishing pulling lead core. There is no mistake if there is a fish on when pulling lead core. My 2 cents.
  17. I like to bring my fish in over the back of the boat. I swing the riggers out of the way, then the back of the boat is open. Sometimes a green fish will hit the prop wash and dart up the side of the boat and make a mess out of the diver rods. The key is to have a good wheel man and a tired fish. Unreel, I use an old release attached to the net with duct tape to hold the net bag tight until the fish is netted. Once the fish is in the net, the release lets go. It works very well and didn't cost anything since I had the extra release. I learned this from a Charter Captian, Mike Boyd from St Joseph MI. I learned a lot from him.
  18. I put one on my boat last year. If you crimp the cable using the crimps that are provided be sure to use the proper crimp tool. A pair of pliars will not work. I do use the coated cable, it was not difficult to change the cable.
  19. I have a couple of them for 3 years now. The batteries are still good and I have had good luck with them in the dark. Early morning before light. TT
  20. I too am adding wire to my aresenal this year. Thanks for all of the input. This has been very helpful.
  21. I have two Big Jon Captian Packs (electrics) and I also run 12lb balls for Salmon. They come up slower than the 8lb balls I use for walleye. I called Big Jon to find out if they could handle the 12# balls and they said no problem. So far it has worked fine.
  22. It sounds like a good number of us are taking this down time to read or re-read Keating on Kings. Dan Keating will be speaking at a Salmon Seminar at the Birch Run Show on March 1st. I am planning on attending. Flint River Valley Steelheads Sport, Boat & Fishing Show: This link is on the bottom of the Discussion forums.
