  1. Fished the morning bite on Labor Day and set up straight out from the port of Manistee in 140 fow at 5:30am. Brad, Pat and I (Larry, Moe and Curly) set 4 lines two Dipsey Divers on Power Pro and two down riggers. Our glow meat rig on the diver picked up a fish and the Area 51 on the diver took 3 fish. As the boat traffic started to build we left that area in search of quieter water and set out some lead core. 2 full cores, a half and a 3 color. The full core with the superman j-plug took 2 fish. The 3 color with a DW Steelhead Cocaine took two steelhead. We ended up going 10 for 14. 7 Kings, 1 Coho, 2 Steelhead. We just kept picking away at the fish. Finally we decided we also had to drive home today so we stopped at 01:00pm. Here are some pictures. Brad with a nice fat king caught on an Area 51. Pat showing some of the damage the DW Steelhead Cocaine can do. Me with another fine chromer.
  2. We have been hitting doubles regulary. They sure do add to the excitement and the tangle factor.
  3. We talked to some guys at the fishcleaning station last night that side they got thier fish at Highbridge in the River. Sounds like they are in the river. I was fishing the lake. Tom.
  4. Pat and I set lines at 05:30 pm tonight in 110 fow straight out from the port of Manistee. We started marking fish between 110 & 120 fow near the bottom. The cold water was at 90 down. Our first fish came on a meat rig off of a Dipsy Diver. The second fish was a smaller one that came on the same dipsy diver. Then we hit a long dry spell as we worked our way along the ridge and out to 220 fow to the north. As the sun went down we switched to our glow program. Then lines started ripping. First that Dipsy went again (Meat Rig glow) then the lead core with a glow goast J-Plug. Then the down rigger poped with an Area 51, and then the other dipsy with a NBK flasher and a glow fly. So we had 4 fish on all at once and we managed to land them all. Our biggest fish was 16.1 lbs and we had 3 others that were 14-15 lbs range. So a slow night turned out to be a blast. Sorry no pictures we forgot the camara. We are going out in the morning, I will bring the camara. Happy Labor day everyone.
  5. Launched out of the Manistee City Launch around 1:30 in the afternoon. Headed streight out to the shelf to 130 fow. The waves were a little more than 1 foot or less as predicted. Wind out of the south. Trolled to the north and picked up a King 10 min after we set up. This guy hit one of Captain john Kings gold meat rigs Here is Lars giving him a work over. After a nice battle we finaly boated this nice fish. Here is a proud tired young man. The rest of the day we fished trolling to the north in the deeper water. Things were slow for a few hours. We ended up with 6 nice kings and 2 Coho. We had a few good tangles on the lead core. One of them we brought home to deal with. Meat rigs worked well today on the dipsy divers and lead core. Fish came on J-plug glow ghost, Stinger NBK, Dreamweaver purple frog, mixed veggie on the slider took a coho. We will be back at again on Sunday. TT
  6. Our two biggest fish were a 15 lb and a 13 lb. They managed to tangle in the lead core. That was fun. We had a blast. We will be here in Manistee all weekend fishing every day. TT
  7. Fished out of Manistee this afternoon from 4 - 8 PM. Ran out to the north and set down in 110 fow and landed a nice steelhead on Steelhead cane spoon off of full core. Then procedded to land 6 kings and a coho. We worked our way out to 220 to 240 fow away from all of the other boats. Fish came from 100 foot down on Dipsys set at 290 and full core. We took fish on meat rigs, flasher fly, superman J-plug took two. Our last fish came on a rigger with a meat rig. We will hit it again tomorrow.
  8. There were a lot of people trying to get their hands on it!
  9. We also fished the WMFL event on Sunday and left the dock around 4:15. We ran out to 90 fow and realized we had time to kill before we could set lines. At 5:00 we set lines between the nets to the north and south. We trolled an area from 110 feet to 140 and landed 7 fish. We had 4 other that got away. Our active baits were the Siggs Green Mist fly on a pearl ProTroll flasher, Superman J-plug took 3, Yellow Killer on the rigger, NBK on the slider. We did not run any core because it was too rough and the number of boats in the area. We ran two downriggers with sliders and two mag dipseys. A good time was had by all.
  10. Thanks for the nice pictures Andy. It sure was a fun outing and I enjoyed having a burger with you and your crew.
  11. The last few times out we have been loosing up the drag to let the dipsey out instead to free spooling with the clicker on. That way the dipsey is pulling on the rod and tracking away from the boat. It takes a little longer but I haven't had any really good tangles lately. Opps! Maybe I should not have said that??
  12. Mike, Thanks again for taking us out with you on Saturday. We all had a great time and learned a few things. I am glad Tyler was feeling better and hung in there. Now both boys are suffering from sore arms from reeling in fish. Thanks Tom Kevin Richard Tyler
  13. Some of us have already made reservations at Fishermans Landing for the last event. When this was set up in the spring we were informed the last event was at Fishermans Landing. TT
  14. I fished Manistee last weekend. The water had been very cold in close to shore. Some were fishing as if they were fishing for browns in the spring. Most of the big fish came from the 40 to 60 fow. On Monday the wind blew from the south and warmed the water and pushed the fish out to the shelf. I would start streight out on the shelf at 100 to 110 fow. Stay in the 15s 16s 17s. There are no nets in that area. There are nets to the south. Here is a link that will tell you where the nets are. http://www.michigansportsman.com/Net_Locations.htm If you know how to fish them they can be productive. I will be back up there on Labor Day weekend for four days of slamon salmon. Have fun, Hope this helps. Tom Torrice
  15. Sounds like you had a good time Andy. It is almost magical when the sun goes down.
  16. I fish with only two in the boat regulary and so far we have had on 3 doubles this year and landed all of them. Our trick is to point the boat tward Wisconson or away from the crowd. If it is windy turn and troll with the wind. When it is time to land a fish we set one rod in a rod holder, land the fish and pick the rod back up. Hopfuly by the time the other fish is ready the net is free. It is a blast!!
  17. I usually run my down speed around 2.5. I realized I don't even look at my SOG any more. I have had a Depth Raider for two years and only changed the battery once. I don't use it for walleye but use it every time I am out for Salmon.
  18. I am good with Saturdays as well. I did like it on Sunday since I don't live too close to that Lake it gave me Saturday to pre-fish. I can go on Saturday. Tom
